i'll do this, but it won't be as fun as years later in the decade...new wave didn't really take over mainstream radio until sometime in late '82 (about the time MTV started...coincidence? i don't think so)

Iβm anticipating less interest (though I hope not!) in the early 80βs rankdowns but there are some absolute gems on this list (which I will post very soon!).

1980 was a really weird year chart wise. A lot of great songs, but this YE list doesn't really seem to be based on chart peaks. The closest thing we got to New Wave was "Cars" and "Pop Muzic".
BTW, this is my favorite Michael Jackson era so this time, I'll be one of those guilty of upgrading his songs.

Guilty of upgrading his songs? Michael Jackson has awesome songs, itβs not our fault you donβt think so. He released high quality music in the β80βs and thatβs the reason he ends up high in these rankdowns. To each their own I guess but I agree, his songs on this list are especially great.

Billboard's Top Songs of 1980
Tentative deadline date of January 19, 2019...
1. Inverse Point system will be used (i.e. rank singles 1-100).
2. You must rank all the songs (if there's a remix you prefer, you can use that for your ranking instead, you don't have to specify whether you did).
3. PM me your rankings. Please do not use numbers. I will know the first song on your list is No. 1 and so on...it makes it easier for me when I spreadsheet it.
4. Manage your time wisely please. Deadlines are deadlines. I will send plenty of reminders, don't worry...

Thereβs a lot of cheese on this list. I may have to break up listening to this list over multiple nights.

π woods Lol thanks, but I have many other rankdowns to do. Also there were probably more of the songs in my rankdown in other years, lol.

Lots of classics here, too! Including cheesy, country, disco and pop. Yay! Lol I'll try to start working on it over the weekend.

Getting close, I have about 10 songs left. 1980 had some great tunes, but a lot of less-than-memorable tunes

I...have a feeling that I'm gonna sit this one out as I've recently been suffering from rankdown fatigue. However, I will make an attempt to listen to all the songs some time this week. Tag me if I don't make it in time.

I actually found this one to be quite fun. I forgot so many of these tunes and there were a good 20% that I am glad I rediscovered. 10% I could have gone w/o hearing.

Nearly done. Lots of first-time listens. It's interesting to appreciate how some of these were hits, let alone among the best of the year. It's also fascinating to hear the sounds that clearly influenced pop of the late 80s, 90s and even 00s. Attachment Deleted

Iβm almost done. Their were a lot of background songs here but also quite a few forgotten gems too. Overall better than I expected.
