I thought I was gonna like this one more. They lyrics are good but I didnt feel it like Dad´s Old Number for example although if I compare to some recent singles from Chris, this one is way better.

I think that this one has gone as far as it was going to naturally. I'm sure that the label will push it into the top 3 at least, but if this were 10-15 years ago, it would be done at this point.

Both Dan + Shay and Jason Aldean moved past him this week, bumping him down from #7 to #9. This one is struggling a bit with so many bigger hits surrounding it.

The duet with Lauren Alaina is called Town Ain't Big Enough. Sorry for double post. The writers are Cary Barlowe, Chris Young, Corey Crowder and Shay Mooney.

The duet with Lauren Alaina is called Town Ain't Big Enough. I assume we’ll finally get the album pre order with this. It would be single #3 from the upcoming album released

Basically just a paint-by-numbers retread of "Think of You." I'm a little underwhelmed by this one, considering that it involved Lauren Alaina. She does sound amazing on this though and I'd be happy if it were a single because it would give her another easy hit and even more exposure. I definitely wanted more out of this collaboration though, sadly.

Lauren sounds amazing as always, but the song itself sounds monotone and quite frankly, boring.

Just know she is more talented than this.

Yeah this feels like a diet version of "Think of You" which I never cared for in the first place. I want Lauren Alaina to get more exposure, but man Chris Young's production team just makes pretty much every song sound so damn boring. It's impressive for all the wrong reasons.

Both the live performances for "Drowning" and "Town Ain't Big Enough" hyped up the songs SO much for me, and yet both of their studio performances are just bland. Also why are we reverbing Lauren's voice so much on this song? It's pretty noticeable and she doesn't need it. As others have said, it would be cool to get Lauren another #1, but it also would be cool to get her another SOLO #1 rather than radio treating her as a featured artist from now on...
Anyway, the I've liked the three songs Chris has put out from this album much more than most of the stuff on the last album, so this is a more promising era for me.

It's like the production on every one of Chris' songs just has every instrument set on the same volume level, the same amount of depth, and the same effect.
There is no way to differentiate what we are hearing in his music and it just sounds terrible. I'm so glad he is back to making good songs again, but he needs to hire a legit producer next album.

CY was far better served when James Stroud was producing for sure. Keeping it simple where less is more applies to Chris Young whose voice is certainly good enough to carry well written material. I feel the production on "Drowning" kept it from blowing up big. It was his live performances of this song that created the early buzz. As far as the duet with Lauren, once again the production will prove to keep it from being as big a hit as could be.
My suggestion is bring in a seasoned producer and re-record both these songs. A quick well produced redo I think could very well save the day.

Been gone for a while from the site (needed the break), but I was wondering if any of y'all feel the chorus of Town Ain't Big Enough is just incomplete. I know there's the sort of pre-chorus "drawing lines through the city..."
But on it's own it feels like the chorus is missing another 3-4 lines "Your friends and mine Run into each other all the time Seems like there ain't no place to run This town ain't big enough... [add a few more lines then finish with] This town ain't big enough for both of us"

People, or at least radio seems to love him and Crowder together. Not gonna change, sadly. He’s boring now and that’s what people like.

I think we were all hoping Chris would pull a Justin Moore or Randy Houser and return to his roots, which he very well may do later down the road, but it's clear he would rather release safe and boring songs to get hits on radio even though none of them will be remembered very well.

Is this song going for max spins this week? I know he co-hosted CCUSA last weekend and that usually means the next week is the big push week. Is that the case here?
He certainly won’t make it to #1 but it will be interesting to see how high this can make it.

They put “max airplay” ads in Country Aircheck’s email, which essentially meant they were looking to get as many last week spins as possible...they knew this wouldn’t hit the top. They would’ve had to wait out Combs, Dan + Shay, Jason and Justin; even Luke Bryan would’ve been competition. Essentially, they would’ve had to wait until September to push for #1 and they must’ve gotten push back from programmers. There was just too many bigger hits in front of Chris. A rare time a label backs off and doesn’t bother waiting it out; reminiscent of what country labels did back in the early-to-mid 2000’s.

It’s refreshing to see a song peak “naturally” like this without a huge push from the label. Nothing in particular against this song, but its chart run the past month or two was not the kind of top 10 run a truly deserving #1 would have. Nothing wrong with a song peaking a few spaces below the top. It won’t have any significant impact on Chris’ sales, touring, or radio momentum. Labels should handle chart runs like this more often. There’s really no need to exhaust every resource a label has trying to pull every last spin possible out of radio and get every single as high a peak position as possible. It’s really just a waste of time, energy and money, especially if a record isn’t selling and the label is spending way more on radio promotion than the music is making them in profits.
Really hoping for “Drowning” next. A good classic Chris Young song.

Proof of that is how quickly the initial buzz wore off after it was released on itunes. Need to get a seasoned producer at the controls whose philosophy is "less is more" and re-record this and the Lauren Alaina duet. Even "Raised on Country" would have performed much better had it been in good production hands. Songs are better this era, so that's a positive. Just seems a more organic approach with that great country voice is the better way to grabbing people's attention in a more positive and impactful way.

Anyone else think we haven't gotten word of the album because maybe his team saw the trend on radio *slightly* shifting towards more traditional, and maybe wanted to have him cut some more traditional songs? I hope I am right

Fell 6 spots from #5 to #11 on last night's Mediabase published update so it looks like this one is done.
