This is a pretty good choice for a second-career single. Safe. It's not as good or creative as "David Ashley Parker From Powder Springs" but it's got a very distinguishable guitar riff and melody. Production is not great but it fits within this radio climate. The song kind of sounds like something that would've been released between 2010-2012.
The song drops to iTunes and streaming services on January 18th.

David Ashley Parker should have been a big hit. That was a great country song. Hope this is good, but I'm skeptical because I listened to some other song he released to streaming a few months ago and it was absolutely dreadful. It was some patriotic song, but YUCK

It was some patriotic song, but YUCK I have to agree about that Patriotic song. Listened to it a couple times hoping that it wasn't as terrible as it was but I think it got worse each time listening to it. Hopefully this is more in line with "David Ashley Parker..." because I love that song and wish it had been bigger!

It was some patriotic song, but YUCK Hopefully this is more in line with "David Ashley Parker..." because I love that song and wish it had been bigger! Story-line wise, no unfortunately. Not even close, tbh. It's about a guy meeting a girl at a bar -- "after a few drinks..."after a few songs..." But this one sounds like a radio hit. It's got a good melody and catchy guitar riff. I've listened to quite a few of his advanced EP tracks sent to radio a while back and now his two singles, and it seems the generic production is consistent. It does make him more fitting within radio playlists but takes away a bit from his songs. Here's a live acoustic version of the song, in the meantime.

This is solid, but doesn't have the same spark that his debut single did imo. Obviously that one didn't connect and sold really poorly though so it didn't get the GP nearly as excited as me or other posters on here seemed to be about it. "After a Few" is a good song and solidly within the country lane, but the production is a bit overbearing and loud on this one. His voice is great though and that definitely elevates this one for me. Would love for him to get a hit with it so we can get more music from him.

This is decent, but it's nowhere near as good as "David Ashley Parker...". I get why he went with a single like this though, since radio doesn't seem very open to more creative story songs. I hope it does well for him.

It is a fine song, but I don't know how often I will revisit it on my own. Maybe it is a grower?

Gotta say, after acoustic performance I expected more from the actual studio recording. It is fine, but not what I was hearing in my head. Sounds like a missed opportunity.

I absolutely love this one! I can never remember how his first single goes but this one is a jam. Love the melody! His voice is really good too in this song.

This is a jam! I prefer "David Ashley Parker" but this should make better headway on radio. I could see this one doing quite well.

Decent video for sure. This holds at #50 this week, but I can definitely see it becoming a hit for Travis.

I love this. There's something about that melody that takes me back to the late 90s/early 00s.

This really reminds me of "I Don't Want This Night to End" by Luke Bryan.

No posts in almost 5 months for this thread. Might as well give this song a bit of an update.
32 weeks on Billboard and this song has reached as high as #36 and as high as #33 on Mediabase. I could see this maybe sneaking into the Top 30 on Mediabase, but unfortunately this is another of the many songs on the chart I see getting cleared out by years end, due to age and really low impact overall.
It's starting to become a pattern for Travis Denning to have a solid start with a single and then once the song hits the Top 40 the single just begins to start spinning its tires and lose all traction and momentum.

This grew on me a lot, so I wish its fate had been different to his last single. But yes, it basically has no momentum.

I will gladly eat crow on this take. This song has had a bit of a mini surge since hitting the Top 30 and is up to #23 on Mediabase and could contend for the Top 20 and maybe a bit higher. "After A Few" has gained 525 spins and just under 3000k in audience the past 20 days. I don't think this song will be a long standing recurrent (this song is at 40 weeks on Billboard so it is pretty high up in age) but it does seem like this song should at least put Travis Denning on the radar a bit more and give him a bit more momentum.

Wow, can’t believe this song has nearly been out for a year. I love that it’s really picking up momentum, Travis was a doll when I met him.

Assuming Mediabase clears out the past #1s ("Even Though I'm Leaving", "One Man Band", and "Remember You Young") on the chart tomorrow, "After A Few" should move up to #19 on Mediabase and becoming his first Top 20.

It's a shame that his debut single couldn't have done this well on country radio instead, because I feel like this one is pretty bland, but I have found it growing on me gradually over time and I do quite enjoy the melody of this one. I really like the way certain syllables are stressed in the song, it's catchy and sneaks up on you. "David Ashley Parker from Powder Springs" was just all around a much stronger song though. "After a Few" also, despite looking to at least finish with a top 20 radio peak, doesn't seem to have done much to move the needle for him, and it's not promising that there's been no news of an album release yet. Another hit is not guaranteed, so hopefully he doesn't turn into another Chase Bryant or James Wesley.

Looks like I was wrong as only Old Dominion went recurrent. "After A Few" does move up to #21, and assuming nothing crazy happens Travis Denning should be in the Top 20 next week (assuming Thomas Rhett and Luke Combs finally go recurrent).

Its absurd that this song and "To A T" by Ryan Hurd continue to chart while making no buzz whatsoever despite their continued radio play. I even like this song for what it is, but good lord, its time to dump these songs that aren't moving the needle. Stunts like this have completely ruined the country charts and have limited the amount of singles we can get from certain artists because the chart is so freaking clogged.

Yeah between those 2, "One Big Country Song" by LoCash, and "In Between" by Scotty McCreery all 4 of those songs have spent forever on the chart and have had no buzz and all four should hopefully be gone within the next month or so.
