This feels like a classic McGraw single with modern production sounds.. I LOVE this production track.

I know it's been a running joke on Pulse but Tim really has become known for choosing the absolute worst first singles for every one of his albums since Two Lanes of Freedom's "Truck Yeah". So here we are yet again with the second single and it's of course the one that should've been the lead single. From the production to the lyrics everything really comes together and I think he has another hit on his hands.

This could (and should) be a massive hit for Tim. It's my favourite of his since probably "Meanwhile Back At Mama's".

I am surprised Sony has not announced new album release date yet.
Any update on how this song this doing on the charts?

Hopefully this past week was a fluke week for "Thought About You". Tim McGraw actually stayed place at #48 for a second week and has a pretty small bullet with 25.
Maybe this was a fluke week especially with Thomas Rhett, Tenille Townes, and Jordan Davis eating up a lot of spins. This song is still pretty young still, but I just found it so odd this couldn't gain basically anything this week.

Yikes, this moved DOWN 46-52 in the 3/9 chart. Could "Neon Church" really have killed his momentum so much?

Things are not looking good at all. I think releasing this after "Neon Church" was probably a mistake. I know most on Pulse seemed to prefer this to that one (unlike me where I thought the opposite), but it didn't sound like something that would be a big hit where "Neon Church" failed. He could get away with whiffing on single choices for awhile, but he's at the stage in his career where he doesn't have that same luxury anymore.

Everyone wants to blame Faith Hill for his decline at radio but she helped him have a stronger album opening and better touring draw than he's had in awhile, so even if they just picked poor single choices from that album (they did) that didn't court radio, the commercial impact was still worth it. Timmy is back to making poor single choices all on his own, which is nothing new at this point.

I will maintain that radio was never that eager about that duets album. Didn't matter what they release, it was never gonna do amazing, I have never bought into the "Break First" hype especially.
Having such a long break between solo singles "How I'll Always Be" and "Neon Church" didn't help as well. I feel like the duets album should've just been a complete side project and Tim have solo music in late 2017.
So I do put the blame on the duets album and Faith Hill in terms of radio success, regardless of single choice, I don't think country radio was ever on board and helped speed along radio phasing Tim McGraw out. Spending close to a year on that album was just not great as I felt like the gap between the 2 solo singles was too much to overcome, on top of both "Neon Church" and "Thought About You" also not being great single choices.

Every time Tim McGraw collaborated with Faith Hill for a single on one of his own albums (or one for her's when she was still releasing them), it was a success at country radio, so I cannot get behind the idea radio was just not here for them collaborating at all. The problem was that instead of releasing a surefire hit, they released two songs that didn't really cater to radio at all. Despite all that, the overall consumer interest level in Tim McGraw was not only unaffected, but raised because his sales + touring draw increased. Aside from "Humble and Kind," the Damn Country Music era was really underwhelming for him at radio. "Top of the World" and "How I'll Always Be" both got pretty far on the charts, but they struggled to get as high as they did and nobody could be bothered to buy either of them. The same thing happened with "Neon Church" (radio didn't like it, and apparently neither did consumers based on its sales impact). There's a lot of factors going into his slump right now, but I'd place Faith Hill's involvement pretty low on the list. At the end of the day, the duets project didn't do well for them at radio, but that wasn't Tim's goal anyway for the project, and he still sucks at picking singles whether Faith is part of the equation or not. If he'd followed "Neon Church" with an obvious smash like he had with his last few solo records (all of which started with an underwhelming lead single), it would be doing a lot better at radio and on iTunes right now.

The debut and initial interest from radio for "Neon Church" was an indication that Tim could've gotten back in the top portion of the singles chart but the problem was "Neon Church" was a terrible choice for a lead single. The duets album with Faith didn't hurt Tim exponentially at radio but it didn't exactly help him either with radio airplay -- I do think it was a collection of circumstances that lead to his singles lately performing badly at radio but "Neon Church" was the biggest reason.
Tim's at the point now where he has to choose his singles wisely (although, I firmly believe he doesn't care overtly about that) because as much as he's stood the test of time with programmers, that day will come where he doesn't get success at radio anymore. "Thought About You" has shown early signs of struggle as well. Hasn't gained any significant spins the past two weeks and not at 100 stations yet. It actually lost 55 spins in today's Mediabase update. It's still early but I can see this one under-performing as well. I think it's a good song and better than "Neon Church" but it's getting lost in the shuffle at the moment.

Iâm pleasantly surprised that âThought About Youâ has gotten out of the worst areas of the chart and is nearing the top 30. The bullet is healthy and the song is still pretty young, so Iâm hopeful that country radio can give Tim another chance for a hit.

This still continues to chug along, despite losing its bullet this week on Billboard and slipping 24-25 (it's up spins on Mediabase for the rolling 7-day period). I would love this to become another big hit for Tim, but it seems that his days of moving really quickly up the charts are done. I still think that this one can go at least top 10, but it will take awhile.

Enters the Mediabase Top 20 at #18 gaining 5 spots this week. Still don't think this will take Tim McGraw to #1, but this should outpeak "Neon Church". So I would consider it a small victory.
That being said I am really over this song. I have heard it since it went for adds and while it isn't a bad song. I am really burned out on it.

Officially now a top 20 hit on country airplay. Let's make this his 58th top 10 radio. I'd love to see him hit the 60 top 10 mark before radio phases him out.

A cover from Tim of The Cars classic song "Drive" will be available Thursday through Apple music and Spotify. That's the only info I can find right now and I have no idea if this will be released to radio as Tim's new single or not.

Way Down featuring Shy Carter is available now. Ugh, this sounds like a leftover from Keith Urban's Graffiti U mess. Also I don't get why they're still propping "Thought About You" up. It's clearly not connecting and it's been floundering for a long time now.

I just counted that there are 104 "way down"s in that song. For comparison, Rihanna's Work and Fifth Harmony's Work From Home have 79 and 94 "work"s respectively. That should give you an idea how repetitive that song is.

How does it compare to Britney's Ooh Ooh Baby though?

How does it compare to Britney's Ooh Ooh Baby though? There are 86 "baby"s, so this song is still more repetitive especially when two words are repeated instead of one.

Ugh, "Way Down" is absolutely awful!!Easily one of the worst songs he's ever recorded, right up there with "Truck Yeah" and "Lookin' For That Girl. I REALLY hope it's never released as a single. I also don't understand what the label is doing. Instead of releasing album tracks from an album that was originally supposed to come out in early 2019 and still has no release date why don't they release a new single and get the album out?

According to Faithâs latest Instagram post, she canât get enough lol. I canât stand the song, though. Hoping we get an album full of true Tim tracks. A little experimentation is fine, but this is just not doing it for me.

I think this song sounds like a "hit" more than any other song on country radio with the possible exception of Heartache Medication
