Top 1997-2002 Rock Songs on Spotify
For my first rankdown, I'm going to do the most streamed "Millenial" rock songs on Spotify, with a limit of one song per artist. As a younger Millenial, many of these are among the songs that had the biggest impact on me during my middle school days, with the mid-00s hits corresponding to my high school days. These years were when Nu Metal and Pop-Punk/Punk-Rock went mainstream, Post-Grunge was at its peak and alt-rock/pop-rock was generating hit after hit.
These 40 songs range from 129 million to 617 million streams.
13 of them fell short of the Hot 100 entirely, including The Scientist by Coldplay, the most streamed song of the bunch, which even in the UK only peaked at #10. Only 15 of these were Top 10 hits, and only two were #1 hits, I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith, as well as How You Remind Me by Nickelback, which was also the only song to make it to #1 on the Year End Hot 100 chart.
Just to compare, the songs that made it to #1 on the Year End Hot 100 chart for the 5 remaining years (1997-2001) only have between 26 million and 133 million streams.
The deadline for now will be March 16, 2019 at 11:20pm EST. Just PM me your ranking of the songs from 1 to 40. 3 Doors Down - Kryptonite Aerosmith - I Don't Want To Miss A Thing Avril Lavigne - Complicated Blink-182 - All The Small Things Blur - Song 2 Bon Jovi - It's My Life The Calling - Wherever You Will Go Coldplay - The Scientist Disturbed - Down With The Sickness Drowning Pool - Bodies Eagle-Eye Cherry - Save Tonight Foo Fighters - Everlong The Goo Goo Dolls - Iris Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood Green Day - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Incubus - Drive Jimmy Eat World - The Middle John Mayer - Your Body Is a Wonderland Limp Bizkit - Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle) Linkin Park - In The End Natalie Imbruglia - Torn Nickelback - How You Remind Me The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright Papa Roach - Last Resort Radiohead - Karma Police Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication Robbie Williams - Angels Semisonic - Closing Time The Shins - New Slang Sixpence None The Richer - Kiss Me Smash Mouth - All Star The Strokes - Last Nite Sum 41 - In Too Deep System Of A Down - Chop Suey! Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life Train - Drops of Jupiter Trapt - Headstrong U2 - Beautiful Day The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony Weezer - Island In The Sun

"Rollin'" is really one of the most streamed rock songs? Wow.
edit: also, is "In Too Deep" actually streamed more than "Fat Lip", or did you just opt to include the former over the latter?

I'll do this but some of these songs don't even qualify as rock.

I'll do this but some of these songs don't even qualify as rock. Fair enough, I was using a fairly loose definition, I agree that Angels, Torn, Your Body Is A Wonderland and Complicated are pretty pop.

I'm sensing some Limp Bizkit shade. :kii: Sum 41's most streamed songs on Spotify In Too Deep: 139m Fat Lip: 128m Still Waiting: 107m The Hell Song: 61m Pieces: 54m Fat Lip is listed as #1 on "Most Popular" though, so that means it's probably getting more streams now and might catch up.

I'll do this but some of these songs don't even qualify as rock. I'm starting to work on a list for a similar rankdown for 2004-2009 rock songs, feel free to let me know if you think any of those should be disqualified.

What year was Default Wasting My Time? I also like the diversity of the options, from Kiss Me to Chop Suey lol the new list looks good too! You're Beautiful included.

Please, please don't tank New Slang because comparatively it's far less popular than most, if not all of this list.

So the first band I was a fan of after starting to listen to my own music is band that my friend kept making fun of me for liking. Their song is at #4 out of the 6 submissions so far and I'm feeling pretty vindicated.

I think You're Beautiful can slide.
The same can't be said for Hey Soul Sister, though.

So what you do here is you compile your lists, switch them upside down, and you pretty much will have my list. oh yeah I see me getting last place in PULSE closeness for this one. Except Limp Bizkit. That might be one we all agree on?

13 of them fell short of the Hot 100 entirely, including The Scientist by Coldplay, the most streamed song of the bunch, which even in the UK only peaked at #10. Only 5 of these were Top 10 hits, and only one was a #1 hit, How You Remind Me by Nickelback, which was also the only song to make it to #1 on the Year End Hot 100 chart. "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" was also a #1 hit, wasn't it? Anyways, I do very much want to do this, and I plan on it.

Yeah, you're right, I was looking at the wrong column in my table when I wrote that. It was actually 5 songs that were Top 10 Hits on the Year End Hot 100, and 15 songs that were Top 10 Hits on the weekly charts, including Aerosmith joining Nickelback at #1.

I have all but six of these ranked already. I'll finish my list on Monday after the '90s Throwback Weekend I'm listening to is done.
