"Independence Day" is actually on this twice, both Martina's and Carrie Underwoods's. I struggled with what songs to include from Gretchen Peters because while I've listened to her music through the years I haven't followed which songs have been the more critically acclaimed ones. I could absolutely switch out one of the songs for that song, was considering pulling "Still Life With A Heartache" from Patricia Conroy for another Gretchen Peters song but wasn't sure which one. If others feel "Blackbirds" should be included I will absolutely include it. |

What song will be #1? If this isn't Martina's "Independence Day", I will officially lose hope in all of you! Patty's "You Don't Even Know Who I Am" is the only other song I could see being a realistic contender. What will make up the Top 5? Martina seems to have given Gretchen the most success and notoriety out of any other artist here, so I would not be shocked if she has multiple songs in the top 5. I mean, ID is a given. But I could see "My Baby Loves Me" making it as well. And of course Patty's YDEKWIA. I could see Faith's "The Secret Of Life", Pam's "Let That Pony Run", and George's "The Chill Of An Early Fall" being dark horse contenders for the top 5. I would LOVE to see Martina's "This Uncivil War" make it though  Such a perfect, underrated song!!! What song will be #36? Lee Roy Parnell "Love's Been Rough On Me". I could see it being one of her solo songs too. What songs will make up the Bottom 6? "Love's Been Rough On Me", at least 2 of her solo songs, maybe one or both of the versions of "When You Are Old"... No idea what else! What song will be #1? I would be surprised if it wasn’t “Independence Day” by Martina
What will make up the Top 5? I’ll be disappointed if anything but Patty’s “You Don’t Even Know Who I Am” comes in second. I think Faith’s “Secret of Life” and Pam’s “Let That Pony Run” are likely top 5 contenders leaving one more spot which I really hope will include “Chill of An Early Fall” by George. And considering this is a Gretchen Peters rankdown it would seem appropriate that one of her songs would at least be a contender which I think would end up being “Blackbirds”.
What song will be #36? If I’m being totally honest I hope it’s mine as that is one of my least favorite songs (not going to give that away though!), so I’ll guess “Traveller’s Prayer” by George Jones

I had the chance to see Gretchen live here in Austin last month and it was really a great show. She sang quite a few songs featured in the rankdown such as "Arguing With Ghosts", "Wichita", and of course "Blackbirds". She also performed "To Make You Feel My Love" which she joked about because she doesn't have a lot of love songs in her repertoire. I did want to add that the two songs posted below were the highlights of the night:

"Love Is a Drug" was an easy last place for me and the correct one to leave first here. This was literally my least favorite song from the rankdown and for what is overall a solid album this really just seems out of place on (which also includes such gems as "Souvenirs" and "Like Water into Wine").

Well that one stings a bit. "Racing the Angels" was a discovery for me and I immediately was drawn to it as I began to think of all the loved ones that I've lost and just how much I realize that our time here is very short. Really was hoping this wouldn't be in the bottom 5.

Wait Love Is A Drug is from 2001? Why does it sound in so low quality?
Anyway these songs do not show her best songwriting (lyrics and arrangements wise) so I am not surprised they are eliminated first.
