#32. "I Play Chicken With The Train"
Total Points: 372 Average: 24.8 Year Released: March, 2005 Radio & Records Peak: #50 Billboard Peak: #48 Rankings:ChicaCherry콜라 - 3 LBTrocks - 4 gonecountry - 7 George Strait Junkie - 14 zaclord 🌈 - 20 ClevelandRox - 23 phil1996 - 27 sabre14 - 28 castleoblivion26 - 34 Kanenrá:ke - 34 kw9461 - 35 zack97 - 35 bboat11 - 36 .indulgecountry - 36 tim - 36 "I Play Chicken With The Train" was the debut single from Cowboy Troy off Raybaw/Warner Bros. Nashville. It was off his major label debut album, Loco Motive. The song features Big & Rich. It was written by Cowboy Troy, John Rich and Angie Aparo. The song peaked at #50 on R&R and #48 on Billboard in April of 2005. Cowboy Troy is part of the MuzikMafia and toured with Big & Rich in 2004, along with going on on tour with them numerous times since then.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't find this song catchy and fun. I hate most "hick-hop" but Cowboy Troy's Loco Motive album is by far the most tolerable. I do think his next single (which didn't chart), "If You Don't Wanna Love Me" (feat. Sarah Buxton) is great, seriously. Cowboy Troy in real life is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, btw.
No surprise this was polarizing. 7 of the 15 had this in their bottom 3 and 3 top 10 rankings.

Big & Rich) is a remake of a song he originally released in 1993 off his Tramp on Your Street album, co-written by his late song Eddy. This version was off his album, The Real Deal off Compadre Records in 2005. The music video was directed by Rick Schroder, who starred in and directed the music video for "Whiskey Lullaby." The song was featured in the movie Crazy Heart and sung by Robert Duvall, along with being done by The Highwaymen.
Shaver is known as one of the best songwriters in Nashville throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's. He's also known as an outlaw, for his persona. Shaver's dealt with tragedy in life, as he lost his mom, wife and son in a two year span from 1999-2000. He also is missing two fingers on one hand and has since a sawmill accident when he was a child.
I remember hearing this song on a new music show in 2005 and fell in love with it. Shaver's got a very fascinating life story if you ever want to check him out.

#29. "Shuttin' Detroit Down"
Total Points: 355 Average: 23.6 Year Released: January 28th, 2009 Mediabase Peak: #12 Billboard Peak: #12 Rankings:George Strait Junkie - 3 castleoblivion26 - 18 .indulgecountry - 18 phil1996 - 19 zack97 - 19 bboat11 - 21 kw9461 - 24 LBTrocks - 25 sabre14 - 25 gonecountry - 26 ChicaCherry콜라 - 27 ClevelandRox - 28 tim - 32 zaclord 🌈 - 34 Kanenrá:ke - 36 "Shuttin' Detroit Down" was a solo single by John Rich off his Son of a Preacher Man album. It was released in January of 2009 by Warner Bros. Nashville. Rich wrote the song with John Anderson. Warner had previously released "Another You" as the first solo single in 8 years from John Rich on January 12th of 2009 but after stations in Michigan got their hands on the song that same week, it received heavy airplay and other stations started spinning the song. Warner had no choice but to release the song as the official single. The song was written and recorded days before it started seeing spins at radio. It flew up the chart to the top 15 but stalled at #12 in March-April of 2009.
The song was a timed release, after the nation's recession, automotive industry crisis and government bailout of financial companies in the fall of 2008. The music video features singer-songwriter-actor Kris Kristofferson and actor Mickey Rourke.
This wasn't as polarizing as I thought it would be. Most ranked this in the 20's or the middle of the pack. I'm not one to like political songs but this song's melody and production are very good and Rich's voice fits it perfectly. I agreed with the label/John's decision to pull "Another You". It doesn't hold up well today but if there ever was a time for them to release a topical song like this, it was early 2009.

#28. "Fake I.D." (feat. Gretchen Wilson)
Total Points: 354 Average: 23.6 Year Released: June 6th, 2011 Mediabase Peak: #46 Billboard Peak: #47 Rankings:.indulgecountry - 4 LBTrocks - 8 gonecountry - 10 castleoblivion26 - 19 ChicaCherry콜라 - 19 tim - 19 phil1996 - 25 zack97 - 27 ClevelandRox - 30 kw9461 - 33 zaclord 🌈 - 33 bboat11 - 34 George Strait Junkie - 34 sabre14 - 34 Kanenrá:ke - 35 "Fake I.D." was released in June of 2011 as the comeback single for Big & Rich, although it wasn't off a studio album but rather the soundtrack to the remake of Footloose. The single peaked at #46 on Mediabase in August of 2011. It features Gretchen Wilson. The song was written by Kenny and John and first recorded by Tyler Dickerson for his shelved Lyric Street album in 2010, which John helped produce.
I thought this was pretty bad when I first heard it in 2011 but after a few listens, it grew on me a bit. I don't hate it but don't love it. I can see this being a fun song in concert.

The song was a country remake of AC/DC's famous rock hit from 1980. It was written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Brian Johnson. Big & Rich's version charted at #59 on Billboard from unsolicited airplay in the summer of 2007.
I remember first hearing this when Kenny and John debuted the album on XM radio and they're like, "we made AC/DC country"...I couldn't believe they actually did lol. This sounds like a totally different song than AC/DC's version but I really enjoy it.

It peaked at #32 on R&R in April. The song was written by Kenny, John and Rodney Clawson.
I've always thought this was a great song but it was a terrible choice for radio. I'm not sure to this day why they went with it. I remember being shocked when I saw this going for adds and it stalled in the high 30's because of its bad research. I know Big & Rich have had an up-and-down road at radio but releasing "8th of November" second or going with "I Pray for You" or "Caught Up In the Moment" should have been the plan. That being said, definitely one of their best vocal performances and such a well-written song in terms of lyrics and vocal arrangement.

"Never Mind Me" deserved better. First elimination that I actually think deserved better. I agree it should not have been a single over "Caught Up In The Moment", that song should have been a single!

Disappointed but unsurprised to see "Fake I.D." out early. Gretchen Wilson really makes that one for me though, admittedly. Without her, it probably would be a bit lower for me.
Glad to see "Never Mind Me" out early. I wasn't sure where it would ultimately land, but I think it's pretty awful.

The song was written by Big Kenny and they performed it for their Deadwood, South Dakota concert special on CMT that same fall.
This song is so different but there's something about it that pulls me in when I hear it. Its lyrics, like some others written by Big Kenny, are allegories and its sound is a cross of country and anthem rock. Big & Rich said they wrote it around 1999-2000, so they played during their MuzikMafia shows 5 years before it was on the Comin' To Your City album.

It was released in August of 2009 and peaked at #33 on Mediabase in November. It was promoted through Bigger Picture Music. Kenny wrote the song with Marc Beeson (Burnin' Daylight) and Richard Supa. The song was off his solo album, The Quiet Times of a Rock and Roll Farm Boy.
This song is decent but never did much for me. I think the lyrics are good but the melody falls a bit flat.

New Revolution first promoted it but Big & Rich left New Revolution for Reviver Records in February. This song is still climbing Music Row's secondary chart and is just under the top 60 on Billboard. It was written by John Rich and Rodney Clawson.
This song's got such a great melody, that's essentially the entire basis of why I enjoy it. If Kenny and John were still on Warner and they were a little younger, this would be top 20 at radio right now, no question.

Total Points: 286 Average: 19.0 Year Released: March 6th, 2017 Mediabase Peak: #17 Billboard Peak: #20 Rankings:ClevelandRox - 6 George Strait Junkie - 6 Kanenrá:ke - 10 kw9461 - 10 bboat11 - 12 gonecountry - 13 LBTrocks - 15 sabre14 - 19 zaclord 🌈 - 21 ChicaCherry콜라 - 24 .indulgecountry - 26 zack97 - 28 tim - 31 castleoblivion26 - 32 phil1996 - 33 "California" was the only single off Big & Rich's Did It for the Party album in March of 2017. It peaked at #17 on Mediabase in early December. The song was written by John Rich, Rodney Clawson and Vicky McGehee. It was first recorded by Tim McGraw for his Damn Country Music album in 2015, which featured backing vocals from Big & Rich.
I love both Tim and Big & Rich's version of "California". I think the consensus is that Tim's is better but I kind of lean towards Big & Rich's, tbh. I'm happy the song saw radio however, as Tim should have released this one and/or "Here Tonight" off Damn Country Music. I think Tim knew John and Kenny would release this one themselves eventually though.

The original version that Tim McGraw did that featured B&R was waaaay better than their solo take on it. They completely sucked all the personality and fun out of the song and made it totally boring and lifeless, something that can be said for a lot of their recent material.

Their cover of "You Shook Me All Night Long" is very good! I would have liked to see it do a bit better here. They really made the song their own, turning it into a very solid and catchy country tune. And it was already a very solid and catchy rock song to begin with, so it all around just gets a thumbs up from me!
"Thank God For Pain" - Wow, I was not expecting to make any new discoveries in this rankdown that shook me the way this one did! Big & Rich are an act that I enjoy in small doses but have never had much love for, so I definitely was not expecting to find any new favorites in their deep cuts. But the melody to this song was incredible, and the lyrics are so heavy! I was enraptured from start to finish. While my #1 was set in stone for the entire submission process, I was not expecting a new discovery to push out some of my other favorites to end up in the top 2, but here we are! This song was definitely done dirty here.

Well I guess I'm not doing THAT bad in this apart from a few songs. I'm sorry but "I Play Chicken with the Train" is such a jam. I adore Cowboy Troy. I love B&R's party jams more than anything else, so I'm sure I'll keep getting my faves tanked, such is life. #36. "Party Like Cowboyz"
For f**k's sake! Did you two randomly decide this sounds like a Chris Cagle song or something? Actually though, legit talk, we did :kii: we both decided it sounded like "Country By the Grace of God" and well, we all remember that fiasco.

The difference of course being that "Country By The Grace Of God" is actually pretty good and it just had a lot of stiff competition, whereas "Party Like Cowboyz" is literally one of the worst songs that has ever been put out by a major label artist...

"Thank God For Pain" I think I put too low, I really did expect tit to do better here. :(
"California" is a jam no matter which version you pick, I'm not too surprised to see it out before the top 20, but I obviously think it deserved better.
Big Kenny's album that "Long After I'm Gone" is from was actually really strong and I wish it had got more attention.

It peaked at #59 on Billboard in March. It never cracked the top 60 on Mediabase. It was written by John Rich, Amanda Watkins and Kasey Buckley. Watkins and Buckley were the short-lived country duo, Miss Willie Brown, who charted "You're All That Matters To Me" in 2012. This song was released to radio immediately following the failed "Party Like Cowboyz."
Great song but it was on their worst album and it followed a colossal mistake for a radio single ("Party Like Cowboyz"). It never was given a chance by radio or even Warner Bros. Nashville.

This one is decent but it's pretty tame compared to the rest of Big & Rich's discography. The Gravity album was mostly very good songs but many of them were mid-tempo and not the rocking sort we had come to expect from Kenny and John through their first few albums.

Great song. Love the lyrics, instrumentation and production. This has always been a favorite of mine and is actually my dad's favorite song from Big & Rich. Unfortunately, zack97 is the first to lose his #1.

I like “Run Away With You” when Michael Ray does it, but I’ve never cared for Big & Rich’s. Way too tame for them.
“Deadwood Mountain” is pretty dreadful musically imo. Lyrically yes it’s good but it has a super bland and uninteresting melody to me.
