This is beautiful. Agreed...but I feel like some of these lyrics are going to be SO polarizing especially in the Bible Belt. I love everything that they did here; but this is a huge risk as a lead single.

This, like many songs with any sort of “issues” will test badly. Which is — as always — terrible. We should want good, important songs on the radio but surveys seem to point to that not being the case.

I have no idea if radio will play this (probably not), but I don’t care, because I will. It’s good

Holy cow. What a haunting song!!!! I am blown away by this whole thing. It is such an interesting concept, put together in such a unique way. I agree that the testing will probably be horrible, but this feels like a song that needed to be tried anyway. Also, Kimberly's prominent background vocals for most of the song are so heavenly!

If it connects like "Girl Crush" did, then I don't think poor callout research will be a huge hindrance. I can see this one connecting more like how that one and "Better Man" did and helping propel it up the charts in ways their last few singles failed to do.

Good song, very nice message. It doesn't sound like something that radio will play after a Florida Georgia Line tune.
Seems like this may have a Tin Man like chart run, if it connects.

I love love love issue songs. After all, it’s what country music is famous for. Reba said in an interview recently that the music today is much more lighthearted and thankfully the tide seems to be turning back to deeper meanings. I think if radio finally opened their eyes, and embraced this song in some way, it could be a really good start to get more songs out there like this.
Do we know if they produced this by themselves? I know they planned to produce their new album on their own but wasn’t sure if they ended up sneaking Jay back in or something. Either way, I appreciate the production on this. I’m excited to hear what else they have ready. I just hope that radio gives them a chance so that the album does indeed get released.

Fuck surveys and polarization. LBT is no stranger to backlash to some of their songs (see “Girl Crush”). Them releasing this kind of shows that they really didn’t release it...*for* radio. It’s just being sent to it, if that makes any sense.
In any case, a fantastic song. We’re lucky to have them.

Would someone be so kind as to explain to me what they mean when they sing, "I'm just looking for a god for the daughters."
I really like the song, but I don't feel like I can fully appreciate it without knowing what they mean by that.
Thanks in advance!

Looks like I have an unpopular opinion, but I think this sucks. I don't like preachy songs with terrible lyrical hooks. It seems like a song we're all supposed to laud and say "oh how brave and important!" meanwhile we just ignore how terrible is a line like "I'm just looking for a god for the daughters".
"Mama's Broken Heart" did the theme much, much better, because it actually lays out a narrative and invites the listener to empathize with a girl feeling the weight of expectations for her to behave a certain way. "The Daughters" just bangs you over the head with an issue.
Hard pass.

In Christianity you have the father and the son as embodiment of God, you don't have a daughter God Yes, and I also interpret it as pointing out that the ideal state of being and the perfect model for living your life (God) is strongly tied to masculine values. The typical and damaging lines of "know your place, be willing and able, watch your mouth, smile for the camera, etc." are the sexist and out-of-touch values that men have placed upon women throughout time. Men have lived with the idea ingrained in their heads by religion and culture at large that masculinity has more value, whereas women have been generally expected to fall into stereotypical roles and jobs, like "washing the dishes, feeding the kids, and cleaning up all this mess."

Regardless of how the message is handled, I at least respect the intent. And in terms of it being polarizing, at this point so tf what? Radio has been so hot-and-cold toward LBT, and pretty much just cold as of late, so why worry about radio?

This. Is. Gorgeous.
The instrumentation is fantastic, the production is euphoric, the melody is beautiful, and the harmonies are absolutely stellar as usual. I loved the live version but oh my gosh the studio took it to another whole level of amazing... welcome back LBT! This had better smash.

I like this song as a song, but this is probably a song I wouldn't really wanna listen to in the summer. Little Big Town obviously doesn't need country radio, but it'd be nice to see them get another hit single, but I doubt it with this song, especially since this will be climbing in the warm summer months.

There is something to be said for having slow songs available for counter-programming though!

Had no idea they had a new single coming and I love it. The haunting production immediately drew me in and the lyrics damn near gave me chills when I first listened. Love the concept, the message, the delivery, everything! Radio be damned, I’m all in for them heading in whatever direction this song takes their next era.

This song is incredible and if Country Radio passes on this like so many recent incredible songs I just have no faith in them to play good songs. This will most likely be one of my most played songs of the year. Was not expecting this to be this good!

Up to #4 on all-genre, and #3 on country iTunes behind "God's Country" and "Look What God Gave Her".

Music is not worth what it does on a chart—the reigning Grammy award-winning Album of the Year is a testament to that. There needs to come a point where you assess work based on artistic merit rather than this constructed point system that radio abides by. These artists aren’t producing music so programmers can determine its worth; they’re doing so because it gives melody to the human experience. It makes people feel good. This song is worth so much more than a bullet on a chart.

I run kind of hot and cold on LBT, but this is quite good. I have my doubts that radio will play this, but hopefully it can at least have a "Tin Man" like chart run. Kacey Musgraves "Merry Go Round" did well at radio while tapping into this a little bit, but it didn't lean into the religious angle so its probably not a fair comparison. I'm not usually that big into message songs, but this is done really, really well and the hook pays off perfectly. Hopefully this takes off and gets the recognition it deserves.
