Unpopular Opinion: this is overrated. As was “Girl Crush”. As is Little Big Town.
The song is pretty and I appreciate the message. Lovely vocals and great production. But I just think it’s good. Not worthy of one of those songs that so many rally lbehind for SOTY though (like “The House that Built Me”, “Whiskey Lulluby”, “Better Man”, etc.)
Also, I’m by no means a hater. I enjoy a handful of songs by them and know they’re great live. “Better Man” is one of my favourite songs of last year (although I think it would have been if Taylor sang it as well).
Regardless, this is miles better than most of what’s getting played on air right now, so I hope it does well.

Not trying to be snarky, but you said the song is, "pretty" good message, lovely vocals and great production - but you dislike it. What does it take you to like a song? I can like songs that aren't SOY material, so I am curious. Again, not trying to pick a fight. I thought you post was very thought and accurate, I was sincerely curious of why you still dislike it.

I like how they consolidate the narrative by respecting men at the end. It is an inviting move to let both parties think of the issue instead of focusing on female listeners only. That being said, the drum kick in this song sounds so irregular. I would rather remove them.

Beautiful music video. Funny how we got new videos from them, Dierks, and Blake all in the same day, lol.

This is beautiful. Any word on if it’s gonna go to radio? I haven’t seen an impact date yet.

Still nothing? It's off HCS and any ACM momentum is long gone.

Sorry to say, but this song is boring. I do not really pay attention to lyrics in any song, so whatever message they're dealing with here, is lost on me. That leaves me with the music and vocals, which are nothing out of the ordinary. I do not hate it, and I don't think it sucks, it's just that this is the material that should be an album track, not a single.

To each their own (and I get it if it's not your thing) but you're missing out on a lot. Especially country songs where the lyrics are usually the most important part of a song.

If you don't listen to lyrics then how do you hear vocals? That makes no sense.

I care about the voice of the singers, if I like it or not. I do not care if their voices crack often, cause as long as I like the sound of it, I will like it. Vocals and lyrics are two different things gardyfan, I like listening to voices, but what they sing is irrelevant to me. Sure, if I read the lyrics of a song I like, and I like them, then it's a bonus. But the lyrics of a song won't make me dislike or like it more or less.
Troublemaker lol. If I pay attention to the lyrics, I can sometimes discover questionable stuff (I speak spanish, and even when I can type this, I have such a hard time understanding lyrics when sung) but if I do, I am just like "Oh... whatever!"

I take it you haven’t heard questionable country lyrics No I have. Every genre has bad songs/song lyrics. In my opinion, country has the best lyrics (despite some clunkers). That is why country music is my favorite genre.

So is this one basically dead on arrival? Haven't heard anything about this getting adds or airplay.

UMG Nashville never sent this to radio. I haven’t heard anything if they’re planning on it but who knows, they still might.

I'd assume they aren't going to send this to radio, unless they are using the same release strategy as the Zac Brown Band and "Someone I Used To Know"... I'd assume they are going to debut a new radio single when they host the CMT Awards in a few weeks and hope that whatever the song is does better then when they tried launching "Summer Fever" off of the same stage last year.

I wonder how much "Summer Fever" bombing spooked the label from releasing Little Big Town music to country radio as I imagined that song bombing as hard as it did come as a huge shock to the label?
Little Big Town are in an interesting place with country radio. Outside of "Better Man" 4 out of their past 5 singles have bombed real badly. A lot of new groups have done a semi decent job establishing themselves in the past couple years as well (Old Dominion as lead head honcho group, and Midland, LANco, and Runaway June have all doing pretty well the past couple of years).
I wonder if country radio is just phasing out groups like Zac Brown Band, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, and Little Big Town, in favor of new groups like LANco, Midland, Old Dominion, and Runaway June? As none of the former have had much radio traction the past couple of years besides Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town to an extent. Part of it may be single choice as well obviously.

I agree with Ray’s theory (not just country but music in general) but the problem is that most new acts are not as interesting as the acts they are supposed to be replacing

I don't know why they didn't push this to country radio, unless the plan is for them to just use this one for buzz and then launch a new single next month with the CMT Music Awards as collinkottke suggested. "The Daughters" sounded to me like the kind of thing that would make a big splash with consumers but might be a bit polarizing for radio (like "Girl Crush") so maybe they didn't want to mess with it and thought they had a better single option waiting in the wings. I think "The Daughters" might've been risky, but I believe it would've paid off well enough for them, and it feels like they wasted a great song here with a debut on the ACM Awards plus a music video being made for it, only to not do anything with it. Definitely a shame if this never gets a radio push imo.

LBT is just not as fun as they used to be. They’re taking themselves too seriously and have become preachy. They are best when they’re just having fun, like Boondocks, Pontoon, and the Scattered, Smothered, and Covered series they used to do on YouTube.

Speaking generally, that’s true, but if she’s speaking about this song they haven’t even released it to radio, right? Is she blaming gatekeepers for not getting behind the msg of Summer Fever? 🙄
Or maybe she’s talking about gatekeepers at her label who don’t want to release it or radio. But, then, do the sales and streaming support her point?

But, then, do the sales and streaming support her point? I took it to mean that people in radio advised against this one being released because they wouldn't spin it. Even without terrestrial airplay, it's already had a music video and 2 major televised live performances, so that was nice to see if this one never gets an airplay push. It's a shame though because this sounds like the type of song that resonate really well for a lot of people and it would reach a lot more of them that way than it already has. I can see where it would be polarizing, though it ultimately worked out well for them with "Girl Crush," and for me personally, I think "The Daughters" is better.
