I love everything I've heard so far - Friends Don't, this one, and Bathroom Floor. If only these three would get the chances that songs like "Girl in a Country Song" and "Fly" had, because these three are all incredible imo.

They basically got to put out an entire record this year, it was just in the form of 2 digital EPs (better than nothing!), and they're filled with good songs that you should totally check out!

Officially made the top 40 on the BB Country Airplay chart! #babysteps So glad to see it! Hoping this gets a much better chance than "Friends Don't" did. This one deserves a #1 peak imo.

Officially made the top 40 on the BB Country Airplay chart! #babysteps Chile! I don’t know if I’m more ecstatic or annoyed at this point. Damn! 😂 In all seriousness, if this turns into a hit for them, it’s more than deserving and it’s nice to see it hasn’t plummeted into oblivion yet but lord have mercy can this train move a little faster?!

As I'm British, I'm used to our UK Singles Chart, in which you can release a single on Monday and have it hit Number One by the following Sunday. Even though I've been a country fan for thirteen years, I still don't understand the country radio system - why it takes so long for a single to crack the chart or even why an artist goes about promoting it if that chart is predicated on airplay and not sales. The radio system doesn't even allow listener requests, so how and who decides what's a hit is beyond me.

I wanna be optimistic about this song's chart prospects because this song deserves to be a hit from a quality perspective, and it has connected well with the general public overall. But this song went for adds 8 months ago and is just now hitting the Top 40 on Billboard. I feel like it is just a little too late for this song to really catch on with radio, I think best case scenario "Die From A Broken Heart" has is that it can maybe marathon chart climb to a Top 30/25 peak. I do think this song will be around for a while longer, but more than likely this is going to peak as well as "Friends Don't" or just a bit higher

It could perhaps at least help get their next single off the ground just a little bit faster.

Okay but like for real, what is it with country radio and these girls? I just don’t get it.
First of all, country radio admittedly has gotten quite a bit better with female artists. There are five in the Top 25, all of which have #1 potential. Still not fantastic, but definitely a step up from the past. Yet Maddie & Tae are struggling in the mid30s for like the 4th straight single.
Second of all, it can’t possibly be the material. Everything they’ve released has positive critical reception, they are extremely radio friendly (like I have yet to hear a song from them that couldn’t realistically be a single), and they have the audience on their side. Yet radio is so hesitant to touch their music.
Third of all, their breakthrough. “Girl in a Country Song”, despite slamming country radio and their top artists, was an easy #1 hit. If radio had shunned that one, I could at least see them being bitter towards them (not rightly so but not the point), but they played it. All of their singles since have been much less “controversial”, yet they’re the ones that aren’t becoming hits.
Finally, their early material was released on a revival label. “Girl in a Country Song” is the ONLY #1 hit that the revived Dot Records had. But now they’re on a record label with artists like Chris Stapleton, Billy Currington, Lauren Alaina and Travis Denning. Still not a huge label, but definitely more going for them than Dot did. And it’s on Mercury that they’re not being played.
It just makes NO sense. They have the appeal, the material, the precedent, the label, and the external success, but radio just will not cave. Please give me SOME reason.

I hope this becomes a hit for them. That's how good I think this song is. I think it's one of their best in a long time.

I hope this becomes a hit for them. That's how good I think this song is. I think it's one of their best in a long time. Well if Top 30 is considered a hit it could be a hit as I see that as the likely ceiling for this song. This song went for adds 39 weeks ago this Monday which is a very long time, obviously there are older songs on the chart (Jimmie Allen, Ryan Hurd, Travis Denning, LoCash) but this song is still pretty up their in age. This song should move up to #33 on Mediabase tonight with a bullet of 48 (on Billboard I have it at #36) so things are looking up for this song bit overall I am not optimistic for this song to hit anything higher than Top 30/25. I will say I think Maddie & Tae's lack of radio success the last few years I feel like can be contributed to their former label shutting down right before they were gonna release the lead single to their second album and the whole year hiatus transitioning to UMG. It was nearly a two year gap I wanna say in between "Sierra" and "Friends Don't" being released. That and I still think this should have been the lead single and not "Friends Don't". That and them being female is an unfortunate (and stupid) reason.

In a right & just world, both “Friends Don’t” and “Die From a Broken Heart” would have been top 10 radio hits. Considering the situation they were in after Dot Records shut down, however, I’m somewhat satisfied with the Gold certification for DFABH and the fact that they’re even getting their album out. Labels have finally realized that radio isn’t the be-all end-all, which is a great development for female artists.

Well the last few weeks "Die From A Broken Heart" has seen a bit of a surge as Maddie & Tae has gained 206 spins and just under 1500k in audience the past 3 weeks. I still think it is way too late for Top 10, but I could see "Die From A Broken Heart" maybe contend for a Top 20 peak at country radio.

I would say I'll take it but this is so frustrating that just because of their gender we have to settle for this garbage. I'm not going to name names but they're are SO MANY songs that are so much worse, and that just because it's by a man or men it does better like they are entitled to this crap. Sorry not sorry for this little rant.

So they're finally getting the album out. Well, it sucks that they couldn't have just put out the album or waited to put out anything instead of releasing EPs ages in advance. I always prefer a physical release, but I'm not buying everything twice; just buying the new songs separate from the rest of the album will already mean I've spent more on this album than I would have. I guess that tells me not to buy anything next time even if it takes eons after the first single is released.

Outpeaks “Friends Don’t” this week with a 6 spot jump to #30. That also means ACC (American Country Countdown) spins this weekend which should help. This song had probably it's best week in the most clutch of timing as thanks to getting weekend countdown spins it should have another good week coming up.

Outpeaks “Friends Don’t” this week with a 6 spot jump to #30. YES YES YES!!!! So happy to see this update! Keep at it DFABH! If this hits #1 (which I am very very cautiously hopeful about and am trying to not get them up too high) I'll be ecstatic. It has been far too long since their debut single became their one and only #1 hit.

Still just wild to me that this was on my 2018 year end personal chart and it’s hitting the Top 30 on country radio in 2020.

I was looking at the chart tonight and this has actually *only* spent 28 weeks (I know it's still a lot, but by country radio standards, lol...) on the chart thus far. They've been working their way up slowly, but maybe with them hitting the top 30 now officially and seeing some stronger gains lately, there's still hope for this one to turn into a bit of hit for them yet. I'm starting to feel pretty good about this one holding on long enough to reach the top 20 at least, which would be great, but maybe even higher isn't totally out of the question, similar to Runaway June's run for "Buy My Own Drinks" i.e.

It would be quite a chore to even get it to the top 25. I would love to be proved wrong, though.

The audience totals on the country charts are relatively low right now though (everything from Carrie at #26 down to the bottom of the chart has less than 5 million in audience on BB), and as stuff falls off the charts above them, songs are going to have to start getting converted into higher rotation and pick up audience faster. Not saying M&T is in the best position to benefit from that here, but its feasible that now that they've reached top 30 that more stations will begin to bump up their spins and shift them over from nighttime into daylight hours.

I think they can get Top 20 with enough of a push/luck. But getting Top 10 and especially Top 5 (what "Buy My Own Drinks" did) on Mediabase is gonna be next to impossible as #10 song right now has almost 5000 spins and 30 million in audience (which on average is what it takes to make the Top 10) while Maddie & Tae right now have 1256 spins and around 6000k in audience, which means in order to contend with the Top 10 they'd have to quadruple their current spin total and not to mention how much more audience to gain. This song's position on the charts is solid, but let's just assume this song lasts 20 more weeks (for a grand total of 48 weeks), and on average it takes about 5000 spins to get into the Top 10 on Mediabase. I don't see them gaining on average nearly 200 spins gained a week from here on out, which is what they would need in order to probably contend for the Top 10
I do think Top 20 is a bit more realistic because at 28 weeks "After A Few" by Travis Denning was at #36 with about 3800k on Billboard and that song seems likely to peak in the Top 20, and applying my 20 weeks rule, Maddie & Tae would only need on average about 90 spins gained a week since it only takes about 3000 spins on Mediabase to enter the Top 20.

Rooting for this to hit the top-20 and then they can pull a Lizzo and release a new single from their 2019 EP-turned-2020 album in 2021!
