Callouts are out, and probably about as good as you can expect for a woman over 35. What's really telling is that there's not a huge difference between older men and older women, but younger men HATE it. Because most younger males who listen to country music think they are superior to females, and probably dislike the fact that a women in her mid-thirties is still extremely successful and not staying home to raise their family. Hopefully the call out scores don’t prevent it from going #1. If radio lets artists like Luke Bryan, Luke Combs & Thomas Rhett go #1 with equally as polarizing, and often time lyrically weaker, singles than this song that’s meant to be a fun & light spirited track should easily fit the #1 criteria that is ever so present on radio nowadays.

This is perfect proof that callout research is inherently flawed because there's literally no reason for younger males to dislike this song. It's exactly the same type of song they'd be jamming out to if it were sung by Luke Bryan or Thomas Rhett, but the only difference is that it's performed by a female. Callout is BS and I hope radio ignores it for this one because it's clearly connecting with more people than it's turning off as evidenced by its iTunes performance and how much quicker radio took to it compared to "Love Wins."

It’s something they, unfortunately, are unaccustomed to.

Overall, this is researching just fine, and radio has reacted positively. Maybe young guys just don't like hearing women's voices on the radio, and that's a shame, but thankfully they're a small portion of the radio audience, which is mostly middle-aged women who are fine with this song. The record has been getting played and will continue to do so until it hits the top of the charts. So what's the problem?

I don’t understand what Capitol is doing with this. It has slowed significantly since hitting top 10 and now they let Dierks zoom by with his song. I mean, this song is 17 weeks old, but I think it could at least go top 5.

Pretty much the entire chart is moving at a snail’s pace and the fact that there are 4 songs above 45 million AI and Blake had a mini hourly debut means that there aren’t many spins to go around. Hence why Luke Bryan is without a bullet and the highest bullet on the chart is a scant 397.

I think it is doing just fine. It’ll probably hit #1 by the mid-end of September. But Capitol does need to improve streaming. Surprisingly, it’s doing terrible across the board (Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube/VEVO - although the boring music video is probably to blame).

I really have no way of knowing that, but judging by the fact that songs that test terribly with men, like this, do just fine on the overall chart, I'd say that they're not enough of the radio audience to bring a song down. The women in the audience would have to also dislike a song for it to flop imo.

I read that her label slowed her airplay down to give Dierks a helping hand, can anyone explain this further?

I read that her label slowed her airplay down to give Dierks a helping hand, can anyone explain this further? This is what I was thinking. Dierks’ song is much older than Carrie’s, so I think they pushed it along to keep it going. Hopefully a top 5 and/or #1 peak is still possible for Carrie.

Certainly not enjoying this two-week purgatory in which we’ve essentially seen no movement on a single that was highly-viable and experiencing an organic climb less than a month ago. It’s frustrating to watch this single (and a couple others, mainly Luke Bryan) stalled in favor of other ones having a turn at the top.
This is, of course, not to be interpreted as an overtly negative sentiment, because I’m still optimistic this song can go to #1. I am, however, frustrated yet again at the blatant chart manipulation and the revolving door of #1 singles taking precedence over naturally-rising releases.

I’m annoyed that Carrie appears to be getting held back in favor of older singles. Now Chris Lane zoomed ahead of her on MB, which tells me that his label must be in a max spins mode as the song is much older than Carrie’s.
I expect Justin, Luke and Dierks to each spend their week at #1, then Carrie should take the #1 after Dierks, as long as no other songs/labels try to push their songs up the charts

Capitol's plan to try to get an extra week at #1 for "Knockin' Boots" is going to directly jeopardize this song's chances of getting to #1. The best way to handle this would be to max Luke this week (9/2-9/8) and max Dierks next week (9/9-9/15), then allow Big Loud/Chris Lane to get their turn at #1 9/16-9/22 and max Carrie the last week of September once the coast is clear. No one else after Chris Lane is likely to pass Carrie, so as long as Capitol doesn't screw up the schedule by delaying Luke and/or Dierks' push for an extra week at #1, Carrie should have no trouble getting her #1.

This would be the most logical path, but both Arista and Capitol seemed to have given Carrie the shaft in favor of other male label mates. Knocking Boots has to be one of the slowest climbers in Luke Bryan’s charting history. Just go for the one week and let Dierks and Chris take their turns. Then Carrie can hit #1 and they can announce Drinking Alone as the next single.

Knockin Boots deserves 0 weeks at #1 if you ask me. Getting awfully tired of Carrie being pushed aside for songs that she zoomed right by weeks ago. So annoying. I don't see why Capitol couldn't have kept her going the way she was before reaching top 10, she would be #3 right now and pushing for #1 probably next week or in 2 weeks at the latest.

I understand the past frustrations of reaching #1 but I don’t see how this song misses the top spot—seems you guys are jumping the gun a bit. The only thing behind it in a hurry is Cole Swindell and even if he jumps her, everything else immediately behind him right now is either falling or moving slowly.
I also don’t see how Luke Bryan has anything to do with this song at the moment because “Southbound” isn’t even close to the audience levels Luke is at.

Carrie was soaring up the charts and then hit a slump at top ten - partially because they are taking spins from her to give Luke & Dierks. It’s just annoying that they continuously do this to her. She missed #1 numerous times so other artists can reach the top, it’d be nice if for once they just let the male artists die and let the song climb as it naturally did.

Ah, it's been too long since the radio freakouts and conspiracy theories for a Carrie song heading towards the top. Some things never change.

Ah, it's been too long since the radio freakouts and conspiracy theories for a Carrie song heading towards the top. Some things never change. I would not say it’s a conspiracy as much as it’s a factual observation. ‘Southbound’ flew up the charts, and the chart date ending on Aug 17th she was #9, Dierks was #10 - with Dierks song looking like it was just about done as it was not making any gains. Since then, ‘Southbound’ has climbed at a snails pace, only moving up to #8 on Country AirPlay while Dierks is now #4. It’s just suspicious that a song that sky rocketed to the top ten is slowing down, and a song that happens to be by her label mate suddenly got a huge boost after stalling for weeks. This mistake has already caused Chris Lane to pass her. Just more so annoying that they don’t want to seem to throw her a bone or make her a priority compared to her male counterparts.

It sounds to me like the same thing that is happening to Carrie, happened to Dierks on August 17th. It got into the top 10 and then stalled. And then a few weeks later, makes gains again. So if it happened to Dierks it doesn't only happen to Carrie. If I am looking at today's chart and see Carrie is gaining at a snail's pace, then, by your logic, she should be about done and she should pass no songs coming up in a few weeks. But we all know that's wrong. There is no rhyme or reason why songs stall and gain like they do. Sure, sometimes labels play nice and sure, some artists (Luke Combs) will fly up the charts. But other than that, we really don't know why. And that is why there is a rule here for no daily updates and also what makes chart watching fun.

Dierks had probably not been put into power rotation at most stations but was at the top of the tier below waiting for other songs to drop, now that there was room he was moved to power rotation thus the gains increasing again. Carrie is now waiting for an opening in the power rotation, that's all it is!

Well we have ourselves a date for Carrie co-hosting CCUSA. The weekend of Sept 28-29, which just happens to be the same weekend of her nashville tour date on the 27th. Maybe some of the slowdowns are making a little more sense now? I would imagine she would probably record the show on the 26th? www.countrycountdownusa.com/co-hosts-2/

Lmao, leave it to country to so meticulously calculate *when* an artist gets to #1. “If we have them host CCUSA on THIS weekend and publish a power up ad in Aircheck on THIS day, it can coincide with their show which happens to be on THIS day. So let’s put them at #1 around then!”
#1s are virtually meaningless at this point.

I get what you guys are saying but i wouldn't exactly say meaningless. I definitely agree it should not ever be that calculated, as it seems to be.
A bit of an update from my earlier comment - as someone pointed out to me on the carriefans site, its entirely possible she has already recorded her part of CCUSA. The picture on the CCUSA webiste of her and Lonn together has her wearing the same tshirt she wore while doing her Bobby Bones fill in countdown show over labor day weekend(per a preview video that was posted). Maybe a coincidence, but it very well could be her part is already done. I would not think they would record it a month ahead of time, but...maybe in some cases they do?

As long as Capitol waits until Chris Lane has already hit #1 to push, they'll be fine. Like I was saying earlier, no one behind Carrie is gaining fast enough to pose a threat.
I'd say #1s mean a lot less than they did 5-10 years ago, but a Billboard airplay #1 is still pretty difficult for songs to achieve without having enough positive feedback from consumers and radio, so I don't think it's completely meaningless as an indicator of which songs are the biggest hits.

A #1 is a #1. It was a lot more fun to watch the charts 5+ years ago when things weren’t so calculated and planned. Now, you basically know what to expect day to day, and you can usually calculate a song’s chances at #1 within the first few weeks of release. It used to be a race, now it’s a revolving door. I think it is a reflection of how labels act now; their artists essentially take turns for attention, now radio has followed suit. I think it’s comparable to the whole ‘2nd and 3rd place trophy’ debate; a smash is still a smash whether it’s #1 for three weeks or ten weeks, so why not make it so more singles get a chance at #1? Not saying I like it, just spelling out a potential reason for the change in programming at country radio. This would be my best guess... furthermore, this could be a part of why women struggle with airplay, because there are far bigger hits by women in country music than radio airplay stats would suggest... Anyway, I’ll definitely be happy with a #1 here; it’s been a minute for Carrie and would be great press heading into voting season for the CMAs. I think it could also help put a little momentum back into this era and possibly lead to a string of #1s for Carrie; it’s been a minute for that, too.
