And #68 on the Hot 100, with two days of sales and 5 days of airplay! Insane Not really? I mean it’s very good/impressive don’t get me wrong. But strategy seems to have shifted lately towards a dull sales week (releasing on Friday), but that means the initial hot 100 debut is based only on 3 days of radio & no sales/streams. Luke did more of an old school debut, so he got 5 days of airplay plus 2 days of sales/streams. Back when this used to be more common you’d see higher hot 100 debuts. For instance Miranda dripped Gice on a Monday night & debuted at #47 on the hot 100. Anyways the song is definitely off to a great start, but the hyperbole train (except at radio) is a bit much. I just re-read this post. How did Miranda Lambert dripped Gice? Just asking.

Anyways it’s not a perfect comparison, a big name dropping on a Wednesday is pretty unusual and I couldn’t remember off hand the last one to do it. That said Tuesday drops used to be fairly standard practice, and you’d see hot100 peaks in line with where Luke debuted today. That’s the point I was mostly trying to make.

149 official adds on impact day. 157 stations reported spins. So is it a record? Because I don't see Billboard mentioning this in their article. Yeah I know this number for adds is tabulation by Mediabase rather than Billboard, but I think Billboard's numbers may be close to a record as well? This song has 19k sales and 4 million streams in two days as mentioned in Billboard's article.

Luke came within 7 adds of clearing the panel but 149 first week adds is definitely the most adds for a song on impact day. I’m not sure why Sony didn’t mention it in their ad in Country Aircheck but it was mentioned in Aircheck’s chart chat, Luke’s 149 breaks the previous record held by Carrie Underwood’s “Smoke Break” (145). Not sure why Billboard didn’t mention it but maybe the 123 adds on Airplay isn’t the record?

I didn't really care for this at first, but it has really quickly grown on me. I'm looking forward to hearing what else he has on his new album. If it all goes well, I could see him becoming the CMA Male Vocalist of the Year in the Fall.

As big as Aldean, Bryan are, Combs is just bigger right now. He’s the hottest thing going in all of music.

Chris Stapleton is probably his biggest competition, as he's won for four years in a row now, but it feels like someone else's turn.

Partially because it feels as if Luke has taken over, but it also feels as if a lot of the other big name males have had relatively quiet years. Rhett actually has an album coming out soon though, so even though "God Gave Her" hasn't been his biggest hit, I could see him having some juice. Eric has also had just a massive tour, and Blake has a massive hit, but neither of them have been big CMA faves in a bit.

His album returns to the Top 10 on the Billboard 200, climbing 12-7 with 4,000 pure copies and 28,000 SPS.

Sold 26k last week. Had 11 million streams last week which broke first full week streams record held by Body Like A Back Road (7 million). #15 on country airplay, the same as last week.

That is super impressive! What a great start Luke has had. I'm sure the next one will spend a while at the top as well! Also, for anyone interested, Luke has been posting clips of him singing and playing guitar to some of his new songs that will be on his upcoming EP. They sound good so far just judging by the clips of him.

Sorry for the double post but this moved up to #11 on AirPlay this week, it should make the top 10 next week once “Love Ain’t” goes recurrent.

Every song on The Prequel is fantastic I think. “Even Though I’m Leaving” brought a tear to my eye, “Refrigerator Door” and “Moon Over Mexico” are radio hits waiting to happen and “Lovin’ On You” is a rocker that should put the crowd on its feet at his concerts. Fantastic stuff!

New EP is #2 on iTunes behind the Jonas Brothers. The new individual songs are #3, #4, #6, and #8. He continues to kill on the charts. I don't think any of these will be on the album, but they are all solid tunes. And right up his alley.

The new songs are #3, #4, #5 and #6 on iTunes now. I expected this though. They might all appear on next week's Hot 100 as well.

A country album bomb (though it's an EP), would be very unprecedented. Wasn't (one of) the first album bombs a country album (Speak Now)? Taylor's a special case though because she's always had crossover success. Luke Combs doing it while being exclusively a country act would be pretty impressive. It's still also only 4 songs though off an EP, not like an entire album or anything, even if it does happen.
