Has a song ever peaked at 100 and spent more than one week on the chart Yes, it used to happen all the time. In the last 30 years, Jody Watley, Seal, Tevin Campbell and most recently A$AP Ferg did it in 2013. You don't have to have a bullet the second week.

Slightly off topic, but still relevant to the Hot 100 chart. Another reminder that Max Martin is over and has been replaced by infinitely more talented andΒ versatile producer. Max Martin literally was a trend setter from the late 90s through the mid 2010s, covering multiple genres and establishing the music landscape for 20 years. All this post is is trying to ruffle feathers for attention so you can post the same weird ass Kim Jung gif and make weird, creepy connections between him and the music you like. This isn't even good trolling because there's no possible way you could be serious here. The transparency is 100.

When we have so many music video releases but "Old Town Road" still wins... ^Actually not if we're talking about how each new music video has performed. OTR only has 4 million views as of this posting (at least Halsey and I Don't Care each have more, 5.5 mil and 8 mil respectively. Yes, OTR wasn't released until mid-day, but I don't think it'll catch up to them). Given how huge OTR is and the hype for the video, I don't see how this isn't a monumental flop? I'm not all anti-OTR though, I'll admit the IDC video is one of the cheesiet/crappiest I've ever seen.

^You say it for the photo of the "trophy" or whatever this thing Ed is holding is? I don't know if there's anythihng similar in Billboard charts, but I think it would be nice if it existed. In fact, I think that if it existed we would have a photo of Mariah with her 18 "tophies" lol

They used to give you a wooden plaque (1960s)then a plexiglass plaque (1980s and 90s). I haven't heard about anything physical in years.

Worst song ever written by Sheeran. I do have to agree. While listening to I Donβt Care yesterday, I realized what a far cry the lyrics were from songs from his first two albums. Unfortunately, heβll be defined by Shape Of You for a while longer if not for his career so that will be what leads his music unless he makes a conscious effort to move away from that. Same with the new OneRepublic song that just dropped.

DJ Khaled is the most useless person in music. What kind of blackmail does he have on half the artists in the industry?

Same with the new OneRepublic song that just dropped. Why are we quoting posts from the outside Hot 100 weekly threads? That's kind of confusing. It's not the worst idea, but it's not indicated in each quote what week they're from and some of them are edited down, so it's not easy to see what people are referring to. Anyway, since we're doing that I'll repeat here what I said in the 5/25 thread about I don't Care. I can't tell people who don't like the song to like it, that's your opinion and you can't really control what you like, but overall, the general consensus seems to be positive for it. While I actually really love the song myself, I'll say that the video does seems to be particularly crappy, although even the reviews for that so far from what I've seen don't seem to be as negative, so who knows...

Because it makes more sense to have general non-chart specific music discussion here since it doesnβt apply to a specific week.

Donβt get mad at me, this is a question about the UK chart - why do sooo many songs debut high? It seems like there have been many number one debuts by artists with low profiles. Iggy Azaleaβs βWorkβ debuted at 19, and was her first entry since Steve Aokiβs short lived βBeat Downβ. Ellie Goulding debuts at 53 with her first ever entry βUnder The Sheetsβ (which lasts a single week until re-entering later). βStarry Eyedβ is the follow up single, and it debuts at 4 and holds for 3 weeks. Like???

So I don't know if it's the best thread to leave this but I found it and I thought it was a nice way to represent a lot of information about the last decade. Also, it's very recent.

^^Why top 12? How very random.
Also, are the horses and cowboy suits in the "I Don't Care" video supposed to be a nod to "Old Town Road"?

Apparently there seemed to be a screw-up with YouTube's view counter where it wasn't counting enough of OTR's earlier views, as it did show 4 million as of late Friday night, but now it shows 29 million, so I don't know it could have opened so poorly it's first day but somehow surged way ahead these last two days, unless I'm missing something such as a performance or major promo spot (I Don't Care has surged quite ahead as well, at 27 million). And it's also surging back up on iTunes, up a bit on Spotify, and still making steady gains in the top 3 at radio. As much as I can't understand why, OTR does seem to be a certified-monster hit with impressive staying power that could very well be one of the biggest of all time.

Old Town Road (like Despacito and UpTown Funk) is more popular on Saturdays than Fridays and less popular on Mondays than Sundays. It's hard to explain, but it's really different than most of the other songs that peak on Friday and have a huge decline on Sundays.

#1. Both Breathe and Hanging By a Moment pulled it off in 2000 and 2001 respectively. #1. Both Breathe and Hanging By a Moment pulled it off in 2000 and 2001 respectively. And for the oldsters "Wooly Bully" by Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs did it back in 1965. It was the first single to peak at only #2 on the Hot 100 but take the #1 position on the Billboard year end list. Late response is late, but thanks! I thought I recalled a #2 peaking song taking the top of the year-end, but couldn't recall it on my own.
