Donโt get mad at me, this is a question about the UK chart - why do sooo many songs debut high? It seems like there have been many number one debuts by artists with low profiles. Iggy Azaleaโs โWorkโ debuted at 19, and was her first entry since Steve Aokiโs short lived โBeat Downโ. Ellie Goulding debuts at 53 with her first ever entry โUnder The Sheetsโ (which lasts a single week until re-entering later). โStarry Eyedโ is the follow up single, and it debuts at 4 and holds for 3 weeks. Like??? There is also a difference in commercial culture between the US and UK, especially before streaming really took hold. In the UK, one would actively promote a song for however long, leading up to an eventual release date with the hopes of debuting as high as possible and praying for longevity; so one had to really connect to an audience with whatever single they were releasing in order to get the most out of its chart performance. We are now seeing something similar now in the US where everything has to line up rightnowstraightaway to debut as high as possible, as though songs live or die by their debut position and are flops if they don't (I hate this mentality, nobody appreciates the long game anymore, or letting things build naturally).

Why does "Wobble Up" feel like a #1 song to me?

Cรฉline Dion's carpool karaoke is awesome, and the comments are so overwhelmingly positive. Is it me or is she the only female singer with no haters? You never hear/read a bad thing about Cรฉline Dion, it's like everyone respects and likes her.

As much as I personally love her, boy, that is far from the case that it almost seems like you're being sarcastic. She has had plenty of hate over the years, to me it seems mostly because people might find it annoying that she is a foreigner with a heavy accent and is kind of a goofball outside of her music when doing interviews and such... The French-speaking nasal aspect in her voice does show up very prominently in her singing, which English speakers might find very unpalatable, but if you can get over that, there's no denying she has one of the most powerful, beautiful voices in the world.

Really? I was definitely not being sarcastic, I had no idea about that. Just seems to me that the big divas ALL have someone hating on them on the Internet, from Aretha to Madonna, and of course the newer ones like Gaga and Ariana etc. But Cรฉline, I've honestly never read a bad thing about Cรฉline.

Well it might be because she's not as popular as she used to be, and I might be a little (or a lot!) older than you, but I do remember there was quite a bit of vitriole back in the day, no huge scandals or anything, but little things here and there, like her voice and personality as I mentioned, her marriage to a much older man, style of dress, criticisms for being too thin, etc. I also think there's a common tendency (I don't hold this view) for her work to be perceived as tacky and especially schmaltzy, even more so than compared to her contemporaries and similar singers (Whitney, Mariah, etc.).

So it's Shape of You and Castle On The Hill all over again where they consider the second release the better of the two.

I was wondering if anybody else thinks the chorus part of Nightmare reminded them of All the Things She Said? Despite being in different keys, Nightmareโs chord progression is the same as All the Things She Said. As well as that in both songs, the melody of the chorus starts and ends and is based around the 3rd note of the minor key that the song is in (for the most part). Yes, a little technical, but that is the technical answer for why people think they sound similar.
