This will be a very contemporary release from Kenny, by all indications.
Someone pointed out to me the description falls in line with the sound of "Everything's Gonna Be Alright", which makes sense. The musical components of the track doesn't really have me excited, however. This should be a shift from "Get Along" and "Better Boat."
Hits radio at 6 a.m. EST on July 12th.

Woah. Wasn't expecting a Chesney and Ed Sheeran co-write, but here we are. I'm excited to hear what Kenny brings in his first real full-blown record with Warner.
Songs For The Saints was a nice album but was more of a side project than anything that had "Get Along" slapped into it to give the album a hit lead single, because "Get Along" sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the sound of the rest of the album.

I'm really excited to hear where he goes next. "Better Boat" was among his best songs of the decade, and I think "We're All Here" could have done pretty well on radio. I do think Ed Sheeran is a talented songwriter, even if I'm not always crazy about his music as a whole, so I'm hoping he can bring something new out of Kenny.

Just hope the guitars are prevalent in the production, rather than some bass-driven mess akin to Billy Currington’s “Bring It On Over” (though that was catchy ha)

Are we SURE this isn't a song from Cosmic Hallelujah?!? I mean, that picture looks like it came straight from that album photoshoot! 😂
In all seriousness, looking forward to this. Love me some Kenny.

A 15 second teaser was sent out via Play MPE yesterday. Lyrics:
It's a long way down To the center of your soul It's a long way down And I'm a loaded gun But I love you somethin' sugar On the tip of my tongue

Lyrics: It's a long way down To the center of your soul It's a long way down And I'm a loaded gun But I love you somethin' sugar On the tip of my tongue I misheard this before...the hook is actually "salt and sugar on the tip of my tongue." Here's the full chorus: It's a long way down To where I want to go It's a long way down To the center of your soul It's a long way down And I'm a loaded gun But I love you Salt and sugar on the tip of my tongue And one of the verses: Girl believe me when I say it's true Nobody makes me feel the way you do When I love you from the morning 'til the setting sun I can taste the ocean on the tip of my tongue

I like it! I though it would be a real summer jam but it’s really good. It’s cool that Ed Sheeran had a hand in writing it.

This has to be my least favorite single he's ever released. I had a feeling I wouldn't like it when I saw Ed Sheeran co-wrote it...mushy love songs just aren't my thing.

I love this! Stands out among the vast amount of love songs on the charts because it’s so Kenny. His voice is much needed on country radio and I fully expect this to hit.

After about 4-5 listens today.....not as instant love to me as get along or setting the world on fire was but i definitely like it better than a few other leads he has had this decade(noise, feel like a rockstar, pirate flag). Still, hope it will grow on me some more. I think it will.

Love this one. Wish the guitars were higher in the mix, but for a co-write with a huge pop artist it still sounds like Kenny.

I want to like this more than I do, but something about it just doesn't click. It reminds me of a pop/rock song from the late 90s. Could see it growing on me, but I much preferred "Get Along".

The Billboard Country Update said this about Tip Of My Tongue:
Chesney earns his 90th entry on Country Airplay, tying Garth Brooks for the second-most, after George Strait’s 99. Chesney achieves his fifth-highest debut; his most recent — and record 30th — No. 1, “Get Along,” opened at No. 19 in April 2018.
Now, his top five debuts:
1. Feel Like A Rock Star-with Tim McGraw-2012-#13 2. Don't Blink-2007-#16 3. The Boys Of Fall-2010-#17 4. Get Along-2018-#19 5. Tip Of My Tongue-2019-#20

After debuting at #20 on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart and then falling back a few, "Tip Of My Tongue" is back in the Top 20 at #19 in it's fourth week on the chart.

So this was #12 on Billboard Airplay last week. I’m hoping this one can make the top 10 tomorrow night and Justin/Luke go recurrent. I’m still really liking this and I hope it can make it to #1 at some point even though it may get blocked by bigger songs by Old Dominion and Luke Combs. I guess we will wait and see...

Does anyone have any idea what this song is about? The writers seem to be very cunning linguists.

Is the reason this song has gotten passed by other songs in the past couple weeks because PD’s aren’t sure exactly what is “a long way down”?

Is the reason this song has gotten passed by other songs in the past couple weeks because PD’s aren’t sure exactly what is “a long way down”? Given that songs with much worse lyrics than that phrase has gotten big... I feel like this is due to lower interest from music listeners in general: 1. It has lower callout scores than songs around it ( www.mmr247.com/mmrweb/call/callout.asp?VIEWID=&GRC=C) - "10,000 Hours" and "Kinfolks" (the two songs behind this one) might be too new to debut on the callouts but if you look at "What If Never Get Over You", "Heartache Medication", and "Ridin' Roads" which are the three songs right ahead of this one, they're all doing better in callout scores. The potential score doesn't look that different but you can see that "Tip of My Tongue" has lower favorite and higher negative ratings). 2. It's not like this song is doing amazing in sales or streaming to make up for those callout scores. 3. Because of the above two, I guess radio stations aren't willing to convert the song into a higher rotation which leads the song to keep getting passed up and bounce around the lower regions of the top 10. Radio doesn't typically like to stick with songs from A-listers like Kenny Chesney for a long time, so with the song already having burnt through 19 weeks on the chart with no sight of a #1 peak in the near future, I can see why radio might be willing to drop it soon. I can maybe see it lasting until the freeze but that's probably the end of the road for this song.

I like this song a lot (Ed Sheeran can keep writing country songs, as far as I'm concerned), but I'm not sure how much higher it gets at this point. I'm sure that Capitol can keep artificially pushing this one to the top, but I think that it has naturally peaked at around the bottom of the top 10.
