For a song that has this much buzz I figured this song was talked about a bit more, anyways onto the chart prospects as "I Wish Grandpas Never Died" gaining 495 spins and a little over 2500k in audience the last two weeks
With how well this song is selling and connecting with the general public this song should probably be a lock for #1.

Nice to see this one still moving along! Hopefully a #1 sometime next year.

I never get tired of turning this song up every time it comes on the radio and hearing I wish country music still got played on country radio followed by that steel riff. What an iconic (and ironic) moment.

What an iconic (and ironic) moment. Ah so no radio edit there then. Here the line is changed to "I wish George Jones still got played in country radio"

Here the line is changed to "I wish George Jones still got played in country radio" I've only heard that edited version once on the radio, but otherwise I hear the original (on at least 3 different stations that I've noticed).

Ahhh. I've only heard the song on one of the locals stations. Don't think any of the other ones have picked up yet

Would it be ironic if this becomes a top 10 or bigger due to the line about wishing country radio still played country music?

Oh yeah, this one is definitely #1 bound with how it has been performing from the start.

I love this song to pieces, and I'm a HUGE fan of that big middle finger line I wish country music still got played on country radio. Really excited to see this hit #1 on both BB and Mediabase so that it can show many of the newer artists that this is how it's done properly.

I read an article today that Brad Paisley wanted to record this. It makes me wonder if he had if it would've been a hit for him.

I love this song and hearing it more -- but has anyone else noticed The Highway playing the absolute crap out of this lately? I hear it every single time I turn on the radio, probably at least an hour.

Callouts are back this week and this has fourth lowest net positive. May not get #1 on country airplay.

Callouts are back this week and this has fourth lowest net positive. May not get #1 on country airplay. Itâs a traditional sounding song. This is nothing new.

Yeah this song is in an interesting spot on the charts as it is still selling extremely well (#40 all genre on iTunes) but the fact that this song is tied last for pop score and is the 5th highest negative score. Only thing saving this somewhat in callout is a very low heavy burn rate.
I do think the sales will carry this to the Top 10 but I can easily see this peaking like "Down to the Honky-Tonk" where the sales help it into the Top 10 but callout restricts it from hitting the top spot.

I'm hardly ever one to be 'offended' by songs, but am I the only one that has a problem with the kids drinking and driving line? Completely kills any kind of endearing quality this song would have had for me.

The line "Wish I could learn to drive again" always strikes me kinda funny..
Like he's forgotten how to drive.

Completely kills any kind of endearing quality this song would have had for me. I don't interpret that line as kids drinking and driving. I think it's just referring to kids drinking on back roads, not necessarily in a vehicle.

The line "Wish I could learn to drive again" always strikes me kinda funny.. Like he's forgotten how to drive. It's a 'take me back to my youth' line. The narrator is basically implying they wish they could go back in time to re-experience learning to drive for the first time as one of many nostalgic things. I'm hardly ever one to be 'offended' by songs, but am I the only one that has a problem with the kids drinking and driving line? Completely kills any kind of endearing quality this song would have had for me. I don't interpret that line as kids drinking and driving. I think it's just referring to kids drinking on back roads, not necessarily in a vehicle. That's how I always interpreted the line as well. It made me think of that stereotypical 'country kids have a bonfire w/ drinking and then the cops show up and bust it up,' with the narrator just wishing the kids could just have their fun and move on. I don't think it implies any drinking & driving.

I saw that, and I think the âcontroversyâ is overblown. I donât think Riley had malicious intent when tweeting that out, it reads more as a poorly-worded attempt at a joke.

Iâm not sure what a malicious intention would be in this case? He clearly thought it was funny, and maybe it was to his fan base, Iâm sure the maga crowd liked it- but now heâs blocking people. One of the people in the comment says he even went to his show Friday. He seems like an idiot.

The fact that he'd rather block fans than apologize for being an insensitive dipshit, yeah I'll gladly cancel this kid. edit: this guy is 31 YEARS OLD? The drinking and driving line aside, this song just wasn't what I thought it would be by the title. I thought it'd be a touching song about his grandpa, but it's just a mesh of random things catering to an audience.

A lot of us like music for the lyrics. So when someone is singing in another language that you don't know then some of us just have no interest. If you got a problem with that then you're the problem.

If you got a problem with that then you're the problem. Sigh. There are better ways to react than to make a joke of it, or whatever it is Riley was trying to do. Why not go and look up a translation of the lyrics? Why not highlight the parts you do like? Or why not just stay silent? And honestly, if you have no interest in other cultures, that does say something about you.

His tweet, although misguided, was just ignorant. I definitely donât agree with him blocking people, however. Some people are stuck in a teenage mentality well into their 30s.
