Not that this is doing badly by any means, but I thought that it would be moving more quickly than it is. Week 4 on Billboard, and it's #27, still not matching its initial inflated #26 debut. I can imagine this one being pretty polarizing, honestly. It sounds a little similar to "Boys Round Here," which was obviously a big hit during the height of the bro-country craze, but I think this one might have trouble being a big hit on country radio. I could see it flaming out early due to poor testing, like what happened with "She's Got a Way with Words," i.e. So, I'm not too surprised that it isn't flying up the charts super quickly. Radio will likely be a bit slow to move on from a hit as big as "God's Country," too.

Haven't seen call-outs, but despite strong sales, this song is scuffling a bit at radio. He just dropped a new one though "Jesus got a tight grip", have to think this would have been a better radio choice. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV31thSSISo

And that was a lead single; this isn’t. I agree this may be a tougher sell for radio, but I still expect it to manage at least a top 10 peak.

Finally listened to this. Song is okay, the video is better. Something about the song is odd to me.

I really hope he would re-record the track when releasing "acoustic" version instead of just cutting here and there off from production of the original track...

I think his team needs to look up the definition of the word acoustic
I wish they would re-record God's Country with the fiddle solo (how it was performed at CMA's) though

Enters the Top 15 on Mediabase at #15 with a bullet of 227. This song is about to enter week #15 on Billboard and while this song is doing okay, this song is starting to really rack up the weeks and I can see this song peaking like a "She's Got A Way With Words" or "Cry Pretty" where callout (I assume) causes it to sputter out in the Top 10 since the sales and streaming for this song are really good (#46 all genre on iTunes).

I was having a debate that you could make the argument that “Gods Country” is the biggest song of Blake’s career. Could it be?

It’s funny because those are 3 of my favorite songs by him along with “Ol Red” which will always be an all time favorite!

If Blake wins the grammy for it, I might say yes. Austin obviously up there, and Old Red, despite it not even making top 10 at radio.
I wonder if the label drops Hell Right after the holidays.

"God's Country" was definitely a career highlight for Blake, but I think it came too late in his career for it to be considered his biggest hit. Like I don't see it quite having the same lasting impact as some of the other names thrown around above. I'd compare it to Reba's "Consider Me Gone": it was a huge smash after her chart prospects were winding down and technically on paper is her biggest chart hit, but it wasn't going to unseat all of her signature hits from the 80s/90s when she was in her prime.

I wonder if the label drops Hell Right after the holidays. That's what I'm thinking too. People seem to be much more interested in the Gwen Stefani duet, so I think it would be smart to switch to that one in January.

As much as we’d all love to, we can’t keep “Boys ‘Round Here” out of this discussion.

Just judging by the last couple of updates it does appear this song is likely done as "Hell Right" has lost 137 spins the past two days and 835k in audience. I feel like the combination of poor callout and the Gwen Stefani duet having massive buzz does kind of give the incentive of the label to abandon "Hell Right" since this song has been pretty static overall and despite strong sales, isn't the best radio song and is pretty polarizing

This one got to #15 on Mediabase the week of Thanksgiving and that was its peak. Label did throw in the towel on this. It's Blake's first single since "The More I Drink" (2007) to miss the top 10 at radio.

As soon as he said that I realized he was right (at least here in New York) and it kind of ruined it. Yeah, it's a little fun and silly, but not a long shelf life.

Question: Since this song seems very likely to have it's bullet negative for another week, is this expected to go recurrent Sunday on Mediabase or on Billboard this Monday?

The Mediabase recurrent rules are weird around the holidays. I'd guess they'd only count published charts, which would mean this is Blake's first chart without a bullet, and he could fall off the chart before going recurrent. But honestly, who knows what they'll do?

When he was interviewed at the iHeartRadio album premiere concert, he talked about how a music video was a certainty and implied it would be filmed in a 'few weeks'. All signs point to yes and have done since the tracklist was released. Just a waiting game. SINGLE God's Country SINGLE Hell Right ???
