Is this entire album stylized in lowercase?
This song is OK, not hitting all the notes for me, but far better than a few of the filler tracks from her last record.

Is this entire album stylized in lowercase? Now that we've gotten "club," it certainly appears to be something they're rolling with for this album. Several pop stars like Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish have been doing that and it's kinda trendy right now for that demographic, so I think Kelsea's team is probably trying to tap into that a little.

A music video for "club" is out now, too:

^ i wonder if that means club is the planned second single?
Although, that video was well done - definitely wasn’t the highest budget.

I am not much of a Ballerini fan, but I love “homecoming queen”. I think it”s by far her best song. I don’t really get why they’re already pushing “club” when “homecoming queen” has the potential to be huge.

I don’t really get why they’re already pushing “club” when “homecoming queen” has the potential to be huge. Don't know that there's an indication that they're immediately pushing this / canceling "homecoming queen." May just be a case of them wanting to show people another side of the album; treating the song as a big deal with a video and TV performance helps with that. That said, there's arguably a case to be made that moving on from homecoming queen wouldn't be the worst idea. It's the lead single from an artist who is positioned as one of the genre's big names - and is coming off a late-era #1. Given that, it should arguably be moving faster at radio, and if not that, at least showing more of an instant connection on the sales/streaming front. This is exactly what ended up happening with Legends as well. It should have taken off a lot faster than it did, and I would argue that its slow rise - and BRE's insistence on getting it to #1 even though the interest wasn't there - not only hurt the era but prevented Kelsea from taking the next step toward superstardom. She may have more overall name recognition, but from a COUNTRY-SPECIFIC standpoint, I don't think she's any bigger now than she was when "Peter Pan" was launching at radio. Don't get me wrong - I love homecoming queen and think it's one of her best releases. But I guess I'm just looking for the industry to recognize that "getting to #1 at all costs" isn't always the most beneficial strategy. For certain artists, these relentless (yet slow) pushes can do more long-term harm than good.

I don’t think this is moving that slowly. It took “Legends” more than 20 weeks to reach the top 25 iirc while “homecoming queen?” is #24 in its 9th week. Yes, it hasn’t gotten past where it debuted yet, but I’m 95% sure the chart is much stronger now than it was when this debuted at #22.

Kelsea did a fantastic job with her performance. That's one thing that Garth got right in his speech.

"Homecoming Queen?" enters the Mediabase Top 20 at #20 with a bullet of 176 becoming Kelsea Ballerini's 7th Top 20 single. After the last couple of weeks being a bit slow Kelsea Ballerini has picked the pace back up the last few weeks on the chart gaining 368 spins and 1529k in audience the past two weeks, with this song also selling very well (#58 all genre on iTunes), this looks to probably be Kelsea's biggest hit since "Peter Pan".

This looks to be moving pretty slow on radio right now which is a big shame. Hopefully it can continue onwards and upwards however!

I think it should be fine since so many songs are struggling in addition to this, since the holiday music is creeping in and everyone is hanging on for dear life. 14 weeks to hit or get near the Top 20 is a pretty good pace so far for this song.

Fair enough, I'm just worried because it seems like a lot of the songs directly below and above her are doing better radio wise right now. Although with country radio, who knows haha?

For comparison, it took "Legends", the lead single from her last album, 23 weeks to reach the top 20. Granted that is the song that killed her momentum but it's still definitely an improvement.

I've said before that this song here is one of my favorites ever released from Kelsea, and I am so happy she's in the Top 20 in such a short time. I hope she can pull off the holiday freeze and then continue on to a well-deserved #1 summit.

Just noticed that in callout "homecoming queen?" has a higher favorite rating and higher familiarity in males than females.

I really hope this song takes off in the new year because this song has really hit a brick wall in gains the past few weeks as "Homecoming Queen" has gained only 60 spins and 325k the past 19 days. I am usually not a huge Kelsea Ballerini fan but this song is one of her first in a while that has really connected and I really hope it does not burn out in the teens.

As for women, I'm stunned that women are paying this song dust. That baffles me. I think this is just another example showing the flaws in callout more than anything, because I don't believe there are actually a higher percentage of men who prefer this song to women. I'm sure if you were to break down the sales and streams for this song by gender for instance, women would be the majority. That said, women are frequently their own worst enemies and do their own part in holding female artists back (I'd wager to guess that at least 90% of the negative comments I see online about Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, i.e. tends to come from female fans). At any rate, I expect this song to keep hanging in there because there's been a lot of buzz surrounding it and Kelsea is one of the few females with consistent track record at country radio. It also fits the season pretty well so I can see it being a go-to for the winter months ahead. Even if it ends up falling short of #1 in the end, I'd still be fairly surprised to see this one not at least reach the top 10.

I still like this song. I think it's much better than Legends. So I hope it does go #1 too.

I really hope this past week was a fluke week, with the exception of this past Monday's update, "Homecoming Queen" has gotten a really bad start heading into the new year as the past 6 days this song has lost 35 spins and 664k in audience, while every other song in the Top 20 (that is being promoted) has at least broke even in the same time frame. I love this song, but man it is such a risk to release this as a lead single and I feel like Kelsea Ballerini is not established enough to have a song like this be a lead single. As much as I am indifferent to it, I feel like "Club" may have been the better single choice here.
Still plenty of time for this song to be a hit. But this song has had a really underwhelming chart run so far.

Free falling now. What happened? No. Just struggling. It gained spins and audience today and the label is still promoting "Homecoming Queen"

la feels a little bit like we are getting a peak inside of Kelsea’s diary. Very real feelings and she sings them honestly. Don’t think it’s a single but it makes since to include on an self-titled album. Music Video: youtu.be/Ok0SVUvFjwQ

I'm not a fan of the snap track in the beginning (I freaking can't stand snaps even though I have come to believe that if everything else is good, it won't ruin a song), but I'm glad they did switch to the drums at some point. It gives it more a heartbeat, natural vibe. Plus Kelsea looks absolutely beautiful in the video! She just genuinely has a kind aura around herself.

"LA" is the best song from the new album we have so far. It is well-written and personal - reminds me of Speak Now era Taylor.
This seems like the album Kelsea wanted to make, more than a record that is going to be big at radio. I like "homecoming queen?" a lot but not all that surprised its been a little slow to really get going with radio. "club" isn't a country radio single at all, either.

I’m guessing “la” stands for the city of Los Angeles then? When I first saw it I was thinking it maybe it was a song with lyrics about a guy making her sing la la la lol. I like Kelsea a lot but that’s really what I was thinking until I seen your post.

I like Kelsea a lot but that’s really what I was thinking until I seen your post. Yep, it refers to the city of "L.A." The song details the struggles of being a famous person in L.A. who isn't nearly as famous as most other people in L.A., and the feelings of inadequacy and social anxiety that can come from that. It also kinda touches on not wanting to anger the Nashville community by spending too much time in L.A. It is a very intelligent song! I was blown away when I listened a few hours ago. Like, look at these lyrics! "Sometimes it feels like it's all real, but nothin' here is as it seems.I ask myself does it feed my soul or my anxiety?Carpet's red, ego's fed, but it's myself that I have to face.I've got a love and hate relationship with L.A."Sonically it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but lyrically this is one of the most solid songs of her career thus far :)
