“My Strongest Weakness” was my late mother’s favorite song by Wynonna and I still think of her every time I hear it. Based on how it performed in the 1993 YE rankdown I wasn’t feeling confident it would make the top ten here but I’m thrilled it did.

Yep, the pain is truly beginning!! "I Know Where I'm Going" absolutely deserved better than a #10 finish. That juxtaposition between the fairly monotonous verses and the super sing-songy chorus is pure melodic heaven, and has always helped this song to be one of my favorites from them.
"Turn It Loose" did about as well as I was expecting. One of their most iconic and catchy songs for sure, but I also expected the melody to be a little polarizing. Would have liked to see this in the top 5, but competition is getting fierce right now!
"Love Is Alive" is also just such an iconic, classic melody. I'm happy to see this do so well!
"What The World Needs" is one of Wynonna's most iconic songs. Seriously, listening to the radio as a kid, I thought "What The World Needs" and "No One Else On Earth" were Wynonna's only two hits, because I heard them both ALL THE TIME. This feels like it should have been in the top 5, but it also feels like one that might have a few tankers, so I am not surprised to see it barely make the top 10.

No matter how many times I listen to it, "Flies On The Butter" remains one of the most dreary, boring songs I have ever heard. I just have never been able to get into it. Very disappointed to see it outlast all the other singles from the What The World Needs album.

The song served as the lead single to the Revelations album, and was sadly the last time she would ever find herself in the top 10, let alone #1. It reached the top in mid-1996. It's surprising to me how fast she fell off at radio with her solo career. Up until "To Be Loved By You", every solo single reached the top 10. After it, only four more releases would even make the top 30.

Another song from Tell Me Why leaves us before the top 5 - will it be "Tell Me Why" or "Is It Over Yet"?

The Judds #6 - "Love Can Build A Bridge"Billboard Country Songs peak: #5 Highest Ranking: #1 tim RobbyFloridaLowest Ranking : #15 taylorTotal Points: 77 Average Rank: 7 tim - 1 RobbyFlorida - 1 .indulgecountry - 4 BackwoodsBarbie - 5 bboat11 - 6 someguy - 7 Cody Wants Out... - 7 Mirago - 7 castleoblivion26 - 10 Kanenrá:ke - 14 taylor - 15 There's a big gap between #7 and #6, which sees a career song of theirs miss the top 5 by only two points. It takes two people's #1s out with it. I’m going to guess this is where my #1 exits... Sadly, tim, you're right, as the iconic "Love Can Build A Bridge" misses the top 5 by just two points. The song would go on to be considered one of The Judds' signature songs, though it stalled out at #5. The song was released as the second single from their final studio album Love Can Build A Bridge. It would go on to be considered their farewell song, and would see a successful cover version by Cher, Neneh Cherry, Chrissie Hynde and Eric Clapton. It would also be the title of Naomi Judd's autobiography and subsequent TV movie about the duo. The song would also win them their fifth and final Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, in 1992.

That takes us to the top 5 for both Wynonna an The Judds! I'll try to post more on Thursday, but I probably won't be able to do any more reveals until the weekend, when I will finish both up. Well, look at that! A perfect ranking for both #6s! I would have loved to see both do even better, and make it into the top 5, but it's hard to argue with what DID make it.

I think more than anything there’s a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in “Love Can Build a Bridge” as this was probably one of the first songs by the Judds that I became familiar with, other than say maybe “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days”. I didn’t really have high expectations for this so I’m happy to see it make it as far as it did.
“Is It Over Yet” is a hauntingly beautiful song that stops me in my tracks every time I hear it and I’ll be damned if I don’t also get a little choked up. Given what is left, though, it was probably a tall order to get this into the top five.
Speaking of the top five here’s my predictions:
5. Come Some Rainy Day 4. She Is His Only need 3. No One Else On Earth 2. Tell Me Why 1. I Saw the Light
5. Have Mercy 4. Rockin' With The Rhythm Of The Rain 3. Grandpa (Tell Me Bout The Good Old Days) 2. Why Not Me 1. Mama He's Crazy

The song became their fifth #1 hit at country radio. I was a little surprised to see it make the top 5 over some of their other songs, but I'm not disappointed at all. It was only two points away from being in the top 3, so 3-5 were very tight, and one list made all the difference. "Have Mercy" was in all but 3 people's top 10s, and received 7 top 5 ranks.

This was always a top 5 contender, and even started out looking like our #1, before the top 2 pulled away. It was in everyone's top 12, and received 9 top 10 rankings, including being my #1. It's always been my favourite Judds' single.

While their debut single "Had A Dream For The Heart" was a top 20 hit, "Mama He's Crazy" is the one that catapulted them to fame. It became their first #1 single in 1984, and was only the second #1 single in history by a female country duo (The Davis Sisters previously accomplished this in 1953 with "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know"). The success of this song is a big reason why The Judds won the Horizon Award at the 1984 CMAs. Like "Rockin' With The Rhythm Of The Rain", this was a #1 contender until the top 2 pulled away. Despite not receiving any top 2 rankings, it was in all but .indulgecountry's top 10.

Considered by many to be her signature song, it is probably her most well-known song to non-country fans, as it crossed over slightly to the Adult Contemporary chart. As it had a physical single, it was also able to chart on the Hot 100, becoming Wy's first of four entries there, reaching #83. It was actually tied in points with "Come Some Rainy Day" (which really surprised me!), but its two #1 rankings from Kanenrá:ke and castleoblivion26 broke the tie. It had 8 top 10 ranks, including 7 top 5s, but the three lower ratings it received kept it from contending for the top 3.

That takes us to the top 2 for both Wynonna and The Judds. I have to go for a bit, but will try to finish either later tonight or tomorrow. Both top 2s ran away from the #3, but both were close to each other. The #1 song for Wynonna has 45 points, and the #2 has 50 points. Similarly, the #1 song for The Judds has 50 points, and the #2 has 51. So both top 2 races were close. Here are Wynonna's two remaining songs: {Spoiler} I Saw The Light Tell Me Why And the remaining two songs for The Judds: {Spoiler} Why Not Me Grandpa (Tell Me Bout The Good Old Days) Which ones will be our winners? someguy tim Kanenrá:ke BackwoodsBarbie RobbyFlorida bboat11 taylor .indulgecountry Cody Wants Out... How perfect! My top 2 for the Wynonna singles is the top 2! "Tell Me Why" and "I Saw the Light" are her best without a doubt. Also glad my #2 is still in for The Judds, though that one is up against my #12 (which I still really like tho!).

Released as their third career single, and lead single to their second album Why Not Me, the track became their second #1 hit, and the 1985 CMA Single of the Year. It was in the lead for a lot of the submission process, but our winner got a first and second ranking in the last two lists to just barely push it ahead.

Welp, that result feels incorrect. I mean, they're both great songs, but "Why Not Me" is literally their most iconic song. Nice work taylor !!

And there we go - both rankdowns are complete. Thanks everyone for participating! Wynonna doesn't necessarily get the recognition she deserves now, but she was basically cranking out country radio staples for over 15 years as both 'The Judds' and 'Wynonna'. I hope everyone enjoyed revisiting both of these catalogues as much as I did.

"Why Not Me" is one of the catchiest songs they ever put out. It would definitely be one of my favorites to win a year-end rankdown if we ever get to any of the '80s years That melody is so classic, and they sing the fire out of it! Plus if y'all haven't yet, you should check out Sara Evans' live cover that just came out a couple months ago!! "Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout The Good Old Days)" is also an incredible song, but I am definitely surprised to see it do so well. I kinda thought it had a few haters. Maybe it was just Ten Pound Hammer bitching about it periodically? Oh well, I'm glad to see it do well! "Tell Me Why" should have won Wynonna's rankdown in my opinion, but it absolutely belonged in the top 2. Such a catchy song, and one of the only songs of hers that I still hear on the radio occasionally! "I Saw The Light" is still growing on me. It wasn't as immediate for me as "Tell Me Why" when I first heard it a couple years ago, but it continues to grow on me, and I can definitely see why it is considered one of her best. Thanks for hosting, someguy! You did great knocking out two iconic acts at once!!!

omg I'm literally the queen of having one of the lower ranks when the winning songs are revealed! "Grandpa" is a much-deserved winner imo; I always heard it even as a kid and I've always loved it. I would've preferred to see "She Is His Only Need" take the Wynonna win but I'll take "I Saw the Light" too! Great rankdown, someguy! Thanks for hosting!

Quite the unexpected outcome for the Judds as I’m sure most of us thought “Why Not Me” would win this. That said, “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days” is certainly one of their most iconic and recognizable hits from the 80s and is also one of the first songs I can remember being introduced to thanks to CMT. I probably would’ve liked to have seen these results reversed, but nonetheless I love both of them! I fully expected “Tell Me Why” and “I Saw the Light” to be in the final two from the get-go (which is why I excluded both of the songs from my 90s Women of Country rankdown), but the order in which they’d come out in was always uncertain. I would’ve been happy with either one winning but I’ll gladly take the perfect ranking for the #1 song as “I Saw the Light” as long been my favorite song from Wynonna. Coming back around to some of the other songs that were eliminated in the top five…”No One Else On Earth” is one of her most well-known and played songs for sure which is one reason I held back on putting this any higher. I’ve just heard the song so much over the years that I often find myself hitting the radio dial whenever it does come on. I’ve always thought that “She Is His Only Need” was a brave choice to lead as the first single for her solo career, but it ended paying off as it became a #1 hit and a very well loved song from her fans. As for the Judds I would’ve been happy with any one of the last remaining songs winning as I consider them all to be iconic hits that I still reach for to this day. Thanks for the hosting duties someguy !
