This forum definitely does have a habit of equating personal tastes with universal tastes... It's why every M5 single is met with hatred at first, then confusion when it starts to blow up. The post smash M5 silence never gets old, lol. All sorts of people talking crap in the first few threads, then they ain't got NUTHIN to say when the world proves once again that it doesn't care about their opinion. THIS stage of the Pulse M5 cycle is why I keep coming back here. Another single, another Maroon 5 victory lap

That is way less "this board hates Maroon 5" and more "this board has people who don't understand what a personal bubble is." Because there are comments like that, both negative and positive, for almost every artist here.

Maroon 5, P!nk, and Kelly Clarkson are sort of all in that “Soccer Mom” super Hot AC friendly bubble, with Maroon 5 maintaining its pop crossover appeal by being more strategic than the other two.

Also, and this is coming from a fan of all three acts, we can’t discount the fact that the ones still having easy pop success are males. I think it’s less about strategic choices and more about what’s swinging between their legs. Men are simply not subject to the same rules about aging and long term success in this business as women are. *plays The Man*

True.. but Taylor has still gotten 2 top 10s this year despite getting pop hits since 2007. 3 Taylor hasn’t aged out like the other acts we’ve been talking about have, in theory. But, she’s close. See me in a couple of years. And even if she is the exception to the rule, the rule still sucks and needs addressing tbh. I think Taylor herself would agree with that...I even referenced The Man in my original post on the subject. The fact is female acts beyond a certain age have extreme difficulty getting pop hits. That same fact does not seem to apply to similarly aged, or an act similarly defined as a legacy act, if it’s a male. I thought the Maroon 5 compared to Pink or Kelly Clarkson was the perfect illustration of this. Again, huge fan of all three, but who is here to argue M5 is more talented than either of these two masterclass artists?

JT struggled quite a bit recently, and I can’t think of any others who are even candidates. Bruno is 34 now, but he also got a late start, so we’ll see how his next album fares. I honestly think it’s less overt sexism and more competition. Female pop acts are more likely to establish this type of loyal fanbase, so it becomes more obvious when they start to get phased out for newer artists.
