I would love something different, if there were to be a fifth single. There's nothing obvious that needs to be released, like "Choctaw", but if "Drinking Alone" is a big hit, I would love to see something like "Ghosts On The Stereo" get released. !!!!! What with the slow transition back to the traditional country sound, I could see it going high up in the charts as well, especially if DA smashes like it should.

I’d get behind this release. GOTS has had zero burn on me and is an excellent song.

I cannot disagree more about GOTS being a good single choice or an excellent song. It's my least favorite song on the album by a mile. Especially when we have "Low", "Backsliding", "That Song" and "End Up With You" still unreleased.

I think “End Up With You” is the best single choice left on the album.

Well, if anything is certain it's "That Song.." will never be a single since she didn't even bother performing it on tour. At least "Ghosts" had a cute little interlude.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last single.

I love GOTS and I'm fully behind it being a single if this does well. There are lot of tracks on the album that I think could work as singles but probably won't see the light of day (looks at "Kingdom"). DA is the fourth single form a year old album in the streaming age so I don't expect more than one release after it's done.

I will actually be very surprised if we get a single after “Drinking Alone”.

We almost certainly won't get a radio single with the speed this is going up the charts, but single is a fairly nebulous concept in the download/streaming era. Radio is becoming less and less relevant with streaming. You could argue that Drinking Alone is actually the 5th single from the album. I wouldn't be surprised if we got something unorthodox to close the era, possibly The Bullet as a charity single.

There must be a mistake in the Billboard update tonight. Carrie gained 500k but had Chase Rice, Chris Young and Hootie & The Blowfish pass her all of whom gained less than she did...

There may have been a panel change. I’m pretty sure if there is a panel change on Billboard they do their gains and losses as if that station wasn’t on the panel the week before. This helps keep a bunch of songs from losing/gaining a bunch just because of a couple stations changing on the panel. Edit: nevermind, I didn’t notice the audience was less than last week, guess it was a mistake on BB’s part. Hopefully they correct it!

Yeah, her audience in this week’s chart is lower than last week despite it saying that she gained 500k. Hopefully she actually gained that audience and they can correct the chart to put her at #36 (where she should be with that gain).

Yeah, she really lost 283k and only gained 26 spins this week. Ouch. Billboard needs to stop falsely reporting the charts to prop up artists they're rooting for. It really seems like they're making up numbers and damages their credibility. They shouldn't be like Mediabase, where labels can forge numbers and get things to be reported "in the spirit of the rule." Watch out, Billboard.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last single. I'm fairly certain she never performed ITYS on the Carnival Ride Tour or SYA on the Blown Away Tour. So I don't think not performing it on tour necessarily means anything. However, I would agree that it is doubtful she releases another single after this, even if this does really well. The album hasn't exactly been her most successful, not to mention the fact that she hasn't gone more than 4 singles deep in over 10 years. Plus, I'm thinking the EOTY loss might prompt her to take a break sooner than she originally planned.

On the contrary, if I were her (and I have her first name LOL), I would take a break up until Isaiah's birthday and then start working on the album right away and have either the lead or the entire album ready by this time in 2020. I say that because while Carrie tends to take longer and longer breaks lately, with her age (she will be 37 in 2020) she has likely one or two more truly successful album eras left in terms of radio before they start phasing her out in favor of the likes of Kelsea, Maren, etc.

At this point, she is only going to struggle more and more with radio and sales success. Sure she might get top 10's for 1-2 more eras, but I think her days as country's "go to" woman are numbered. (That is not to undermine the success she's had up to this point!) But, realistically...does Carrie care about charts or radio success at this point? I don't know that she does...especially after the EOTY loss. I think that loss probably showed her that short of a Some Hearts-like era, it is very unlikely she will win that award despite being the most deserving. Which, I hypothesize, is probably the final straw for her. I think we are in for the next album era to be very different for her...maybe her My December of sorts. I think she will try and go out on her own terms. But, we will see.

What are the possibilities of this crossing over to other formats? Top 40 might be a stretch but I definitely see this working well at Hot AC. When was the last time she had a single go top 20 or even released there?

When was the last time she had a single go top 20 or even released there? If I'm not mistaken (and I was, refer to the post below me), it's been since literally 2006 that Hot AC gave her a Top 20 placement. In fact, only four songs have even charted, but they were incredible placements: IYH which went to #12 Some Hearts which also went to #12 JTTW which went to #23 BHC which went to #6 As for the Top 40? 7 songs in her history have charted: SH went to #22 BHC went to #5 LN went to #31 CC went to #21 Undo It went to #25 GG went to #20 BA to #31 I am 10000% here for this one hitting the Top 40 and/or Hot AC. An HAC appearance would be extra incredible since it's been 13 years now

I believe she has only ever charted on the CHR/Top 40 chart with "Before He Cheats," which went to #9 there. Hot AC seemed interested in giving her some spins, so if they actually pushed this to that format, I could certainly see it at least reaching a peak in the 20s there.

Mediabase has this one stalled this week at #39. The holiday freeze is likely happening by now, so I guess the airplay might not really pick up steam until January.

Apparantly there was a radio-a-thon so a ton of songs lost Airplay because of it. It is noted in Country Air-check as well as Billboard Country Airplay. I’m not worried about it at all. Also, I heard it on the radio for the first time today.

I'm quite surprised at how slowly this song is moving up on the charts, I know about the charts freeze but still there are other songs with more movements on the chart. I hope soon after, it can continue moving up. Such a great record with a stunning video from Carrie.

I hope soon after, it can continue moving up. Such a great record with a stunning video from Carrie. So far, this song is projected to move up a spot on Mediabase to #37. I think it's been discussed before in this thread, but I theorize that the label is going to try to keep this one on radio for awhile while Carrie works on Album 7. I think timing this song just well enough for it to hit #1 and then have a lead come out soon after would maintain radio momentum for the next era. If she's wanting to work on a full-length Christmas album (which I find myself wanting more and more lately), then I would want a fifth single (for the summer it would likely have to be End Up With You) to keep the general public's excitement around her when the Christmas album is announced. As of right now though, I think this song is only about to enter Week 7, so it's probably still a bit too early to start worrying about this song's fate at radio. I don't think we're ever gonna really get a BHC kind of hit at radio again (though I wish on everything that is good and pure that it would be so), so as long as this manages to hit #1 on Mediabase and especially BB (which is long overdue, it's been since "Church Bells" in 2016 that she topped the Country Airplay chart there), I'll be happy.

I'm definitely disappointed at this one's chart run so far. I know this era has been a collective misstep for her with country radio, but "Drinking Alone" is still off to a muuuch slower start than I expected. :/

Honestly, this isn’t doing too badly. “Monsters” and “Blessings” also moved pretty slowly through this area of the chart and it looks like they’ll be fine in the long run. Nowadays even A-listers are taking 30-40 weeks to get up the chart.
