Watch one of the live performances of this song sometime (at any point, really), and watch Dick Dale play the guitar. It's like watching someone perform a magic trick. It's unbelievable, and it gave me a whole new appreciation for a song that I had already loved before.
This is truly one of the greatest instrumental songs ever made.

#3 reached the top 3 after 2 movements and never fell out after that. It spent 3 lists at #1 in the middle of the process, and otherwise was always within shouting distance of the top spot. 14 top 10s die off here. Just 5 are top 5, though, and 2 of those were #1. On the other hand, only 3 people ranked this song outside their top 18.

The funny thing is that I actually assumed this would struggle to break into the top ten, if it even got there at all. I'm shocked it's as high as it is.
3 vs. 18
Might actually be refreshing for me to be the lowest ranking on the winner, for a change.

hopefully this doesn't mean the end for The Kinks soon? lmao Your final 2. All Day and All of the NightI Melt With YouTale of the Tape:This was the top 2 for 5 movements non-consecutively These 2 songs spent a combined 18 movements at #1. One of the songs was more present there in the early going, while the other dominated the late game. These songs have a combined 29 top 10s, 20 being top 5s and 5 being #1s. 10 bottom 18s remain, 5 being bottom 10s. Only 1 player can get a perfect top 2: pm1230. 3 players have no top 10s left: Daryl the Beryl, wheatsquares33, and Lordef†ones. One of these songs was tied with #3.

All things considered, I'm down to #3 and #10.
It could be a lot worse.

Misirlou Dick Dale and his Del-Tones
274 Points Standard Deviation: 9.680876385 Median Rank: 10
Daryl the Beryl - 1
It's a song from a Quentin Tarantino movie. Pulp Fiction, no less. You do not just rank it low. But in all seriousness, yes, Misirlou was my favorite on this list.

"All Day and All of the Night" is really good and a pretty great time capsule of its era, but I've never been able to connect to it on a personal level. Consider this ranking a balance between me thinking that this song was simply too good to rank lower and me not really connecting to the song. "I Melt With You", meanwhile, is also really good, but I've actually connected to it on a personal level, and that helps tremendously. It wasn't ever going to be my #1, but it was impossible to justify ranking it lower, even if my #4-#6 were all fairly close to it. It's simply too good. Another great rankdown, singingrulebritannia, as always. What else can I say? You were deemed the best host on Pulse for a reason.

catching up a bit because finals are dumb:
-My Morning Jacket are one of my favorite bands so it should be no surprise they were my #1 here, this is one of their most vast and epic tracks while still being a country banger so I'm glad it made top 10! -Love My Way is so goddamn fun, I already knew it but just listening to it again for this rankdown made me love it even more -Misirlou is badass -Senses Working Overtime is fun as well but XTC really sells me with Making Plans for Nigel -All Day and All of the Night was a first listen, as sad as I am to say, but I am so glad it did this well, truly a rockin' tune -my roommate showed me I Melt With You last year so I've always enjoyed it quite a lot. gotta say I'm surprised it went on to win the whole thing! it does have a really cool story behind it though with the "nuclear love" theme
as always, marvelous hosting gates. always looking forward to your next list in store!

Thanks for hosting another great rankdown, gates! I knew more songs on here than I had originally thought when looking at the list. Some really good classics on here that were awesome to re-visit.

10. I Want You Back - Hoodoo GurusThis was a majorly cool first time listen. The intro just pulled me in. The vocals are good. The kind of vocals Alt rock sounds good with. Then we have the chorus which gives me psychedelic chills. Surprising, but deserving top 10 song. 9. Going Underground - The Jam Another interesting first listen with mad British vibes. "A Town Called Malice" is a classic, but this one had a different vibe than that song. I did a lot of head bopping while this was playing. Both of these just miss my top 10 because of the classic songs featured on the list. 8. Ana Ng - They Might Be Giantsit started interesting with the intro, but those vocals shot it down in flames. Sounds like he is lazy or something then it got completely silly in the chorus, and I just couldn't deal with it anymore. 7. Heart Of Gold - Neil Young "Grandfather grunge" is what I call him. never cared for his vocals nor his music. No tears shed, and Bottom tank is finally clean. 6. Love My Way - The Psychedelic FursA true 80's New Wave classic. So close to being my #1 song. dam those Hollies. I swear the way he was singing the song gave him the power to walk on water. 5. One Big Holiday - My Morning JacketComes in on my decent song range. I honestly couldn't remember any one song from them, but this one did alright in the music department. I don't see what's so stellar about it? 4. Misirlou - Dick Dale and his Del-TonesThis is in Pulp Fiction. That's pretty much all that mattered to me, but no way I'm giving an Instrumental top 10 action, not with all the vocal fire this list of songs had to offer. 3. Senses Working Overtime - XTCAnother KROQ staple of a song (back when KROQ was cool) my favorite XTC song and also a huge hit on my personal charts. The 1-2-3-4-5's elevated this one into my top 5. poor nickd maybe he doesn't like beret wearing vocalists? The top 2 are hot.2. All Day and All of the Night - The KinksI love this song. "Hello I You Won't you tell Me Your Name". My favorite Kinks song naturally sounds like my favorite Doors song. You don't need any more explanation why this is my #3 song. Ok one more reason. 60's & 70's rock had more balls than today's so called alt and rock music. 1. I Melt With You - Modern EnglishI knew this would win, and it really didn't need my help. Another Alternative radio staple that I would hear all the time, until alternative radio went to hell. Great song. A song that Hot 100 just refused to accept. It even got a reissue in 1986 and still only peaked at #76. How many John Hughes movies was this son featured in? ;) singingrulebritannia Great Rank down and great job. I honestly enjoyed this one a even more. Looking forward to the next one.

probably the most consistently great rankdown i've ever done
shame that my 1 and 3 got so close, but i loved pretty much my top 32 or something so i can't complain
edit: its also interesting that two trends have repeated for me in rock rankdowns once again, i tend to prefer the older songs and not like the metal songs as much
