There are a few I'm not familiar with, so I'm trying to listen a few times so I don't under-rank them.

WAIT. I legit forgot that she sang Angel and also didn't realize Rapture wasn't her first album. I guess when I was a kid (like...5?) and first heard Rapture, I thought it was so flawless that nothing should come before or after it (though I do remember my uncle also had Giving You The Best on vinyl and I remember liking it at the time, but pretty much stopped following her career after that). I remember my uncle saying how dumb Anita was for turning down the songs from the Boomerang soundtrack that launched Toni Braxton's career, but damn, wasn't she pregnant? Damn, let a bitch breed! Anyway, thank you #LisaRinna for doing a rankdown for such an iconic Black artist and also for making it your first rankdown. You can come to my family's parties. I added all the songs that I didn't have to my iTunes. Edit: That melody of Angel drove me crazy. I was like...didn't someone cover this?! Lo and behold, it came to me: John Legend, on an interlude with Stacy Barthe. Wasn't bad either.

Yeah. L.A. also confirmed the story when I saw him in Harlem during his book tour. He was basically like Toni Braxton owes Anita Baker her career. No lies told and I am a Toni fan but...Anita>>>>>>>.

You know a song is powerful when, even as a black widdow baby with no fathomable way to really comprehend the meaning behind the song, you were emotional listening to it. Hearing this song brings back such memories. If y'all tank it, I promise I will never participate in another rankdown again. I literally remember every ad-lib and I haven't heard this song since I was a kid.

I was only really familiar with about half of the list. I did listen to the others for this list, but it's always an uphill battle against songs you've lived with. I will say I made a really nice discovery with "No More Tears."

ARE YOU HAPPY NOW WITH YOUR LIIIIFE?? As for MEEEEEEEE, I'm BREAKING INSIDE.
OMG.
I played the Apple Music essentials playlist again at work today and was distracted by how good her vocals are. I wanted to make sure I could do this rankdown justice and really HEAR these songs. There actually isn't a bad song at all on this rankdown. Just songs I care about more than others and some that are just some of the best songs ever recorded by anyone. I STAN this rankdown and its creator!

I had to come through for Anita. She along with Sade has my favorite discographies from any artists.

I'm like halfway through with ranking these but damn there are some CLASSICS sprinkled all around her discography. SLAY me! I'm living because every song begins with a 30 second instrumental and some vocal warm ups The beginning of You Bring Me Joy when she's just humming and than bam you bring meEEEEEEEEEE joy just sets it up so nicely. Don't get me started on the sax! Let me keep this for the rankings.
