Welcome to the 2019 Country Rankdown!!!!

Hello! Welcome to the final year of the 2010s!!!! I cannot believe the decade is about to end already...

This rankdown is based on the Billboard Country Airplay year-end chart. All duplicates from last year's rankdown are removed. I filled in the gaps with various fan favorites or other important songs that didn't manage to make the official list. As always, my goal was to represent the country genre as completely and accurately as I could. I know the inclusion of songs like "Old Town Road" will not make everyone happy, but it would be dishonest to pretend that it didn't have a big impact on the Country world this year, positive or negative. Hopefully there is a little bit of something here for everybody to enjoy

To participate, all you have to do is rank the songs from your favorite (#1) to least favorite (#100), and submit your list to me via personal message. I will compile the data from everyone's ranks and then host a countdown of these songs to determine which song is Pulse's favorite Country song from this entire year! The deadline will be at the end of January, on Friday, January 31st!!!! Anyone is welcome to join, whether country fan or simply a curious onlooker. You do not have to have been tagged to join.

I am not exaggerating when I tell you that MORE THAN A QUARTER of this year-end top 100 was already a big enough hit in 2018 to have been used in last year’s rank down. By the time I got rid of them, finding enough flops to round out an even 100 was a big enough task on its own!

You are 100% correct, and I don’t think they’re country either, but there is no denying that they had a huge impact on the country genre this year... They may not have been airplay hits, but they were huge HCS hits thanks to their streaming and cross-genre appeal, and the exposure and discussion they brought to the genre certainly was more impactful than 90% of the songs on this list! I would gladly get rid of them from a quality standpoint, but from an importance standpoint, I decided Billy Currington’s “Details” was more disposable 😂 (Plus it still has a chance to make it in next year)

I'll definitely do this, but man looking at 2019 in country music there isn't a ton of great songs, there is a lot that is definitely good, but not great and like bboat11 this year was a struggle to find many singles that weren't related more to 2018 and songs that are probably gonna be more impactful in 2020 than this year (debut singles from Gone West, and Gabby Barrett).

On the bright side there doesn't seem like to me at least a lot of truly horrid songs like 2014 or if I am being honest 2018. Also looking at this list, it does seem like even looking at the pre add-on list that women in country music did get some more traction in 2019 (singles from Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, Carrie Underwood, Runaway June making the Top 5 and even lesser singles from like Miranda Lambert, Carly Pearce, and Trisha Yearwood making the Top 30) still not great by any stretch but this was probably the best year on country radio for women since 2012 I wanna say (oof at it being that long ago).

Streaming services like Spotify are much easier for playlists especially with such massive amounts of songs as this rankdown. You'll just have to do what I do sometimes--copy and paste the song titles (in this case, probably the artists as well) into the preference revealer and refer to the list while you search for each new song. It's a back-and-forth mess, but it works. There's a method to my madness! LOL

You could have added some Texas Country songs like the two Aaron Watson singles and current Cody Johnson single. It's fine if they are omitted, but it happens that some songs added in this rankdown e.g. 10,000 Hours will probably end up in next year's year-end chart anyway so they would be excluded in next year's rankdown if your logic goes.
