we keep trucking along with team #5...5. MoD & DistrictTwelve Overall Score: 47.6Roadblock Rank: #10 | Detour Rank: #1Roadblock Results:(Sent by MoD)Judges' Thoughts:Nick: this is pretty cool. I think in recent years Twenty One Pilots have gotten pretty uninteresting, but this song shows what made them special in the first place. (9/10)Mylo: I want to like Twenty One Pilots way more than I actually do. By that, I mean I liked their Blurryface songs, but not really anything else I’ve heard from then. Tear In My Heart, that song was golden! Heavydirtysoul, that song has grown on me the more I’ve heard it! This? I get mild second-hand embarrassment from it. I just don’t like the main singer’s voice most of the time, and this is a prime example. I don’t know what to describe what he’s doing, it’s like he’s over speaking every line and it gets really grating really fast. Lyrically I’m not a fan either, which leaves the decent production to carry the entire song. It tries its very best but I can’t enjoy this when I dread the next time the singer comes on. I’m really sorry, I wanted to like this song as I have plenty of friends both in real life and online who love this band but I can’t, this isn’t for me at all. (2.5/10)Adrian: This is actually the first Twenty One Pilots song I've ever heard and to this day, I think it is one of their best songs. Tyler Joseph shows how skillful he is as a singer and a rapper. The verses here are fun and I love the chorus. The production is really solid and I just think this is a really well-made song. I really think this should've been their big breakout hit. (9.3/10)Overall: 20.8Detour Results:(Deep Dish) Judges' Thoughts:Nick: I don’t often describe songs as being “beautiful”. however, I think that’s absolutely the best word to describe this song. beautiful. I love how the instrumental builds over the song, Chris Martin sounds great, and it’s simply and very well written (and “deep”!) song. (7 for quality, 3 for theme = 10/10)
Mylo: a decent Coldplay fan, but in the sense that I like their singles and that’s mostly all I know haha. This one was surprisingly a first listen, but I’m happy to have an excuse to hear it. My first thought is that the piano (and the production is general) is gorgeous! What an instrumental, Coldplay’s excellence from the start was their production work for me. Their lyrics were never bad or anything but they definitely need the sound of the song to carry them to being good. Chris Martin’s vocals are honestly almost included in that instrumental, he basically enhances the sound of the song for me. I’ll give this a 4.3/5 for sound as I’m torn between 4 and 4.5 haha. For theme, it’s fine enough? The sound of the song is definitely deep but these lyrics aren’t doing it for me lol. If you’re focusing on the lyrics in a Coldplay song, I think you’re not usually going to find much, it’s better to let the music speak for itself. Unfortunately I can’t really give this that high of a score if I don’t find the lyrics deep really at all haha. Still, nice first listen. (4.3/5, 3/5 theme, 7.3/10 overall)
Trilogy: This song damn near never fails to get me in my feels. The songwriting can is relatable and can be just about anything, which I really appreciate in songs. The instrumentation is just oozing in bliss and the melody is also a winner. Coldplay songs don't get any better than this. (9.5/10)
Overall: 26.8
You won the detour, but struggled with the roadblock haha. You'll receive a +1.4 bonus next round

the sixth team checking in is...6. House Lannister & Exclusive Overall Score: 44.5Roadblock Rank: #4 | Detour Rank: #10Roadblock Results:
(Sent by BrianC)Judges' Thoughts:Nick: this ones alright, very close to being good. I don’t have any problems with it but I just don’t find it particularly interesting overall, though it is very pleasant. it works with the rest of the album but it isn’t something I would really seek out that often (6.5/10)
Mylo: Ready for the obvious joke? This song is, in fact, a slow burn. Wow, what a creative insight into the song’s quality! Yeah, this song is timeless and amazing. I don’t want to harp too much on Kacey, she’s definitely talented but she is human and can make occasionally not great songs lol. This song definitely requires multiple listens to get into, I didn’t even like it upon first listen haha. It can be sometimes a little too low key for every occasion, and I suspect this is the least accessible song out of the Kacey picks here, but it’s still great and still shows Kacey as a shining star in the country music scene. (9.5/10)Adrian: This is one of the most beautiful album openers I've heard. I love how simple it is musically, yet it's so touching and so moving. This song is beautifully-written and I really love her voice here. I would say this is pretty much the perfect country song in my eyes. It's definitely one of my favorites from the album. (10/10)Overall: 26Detour Results:
(Deep Dish)Judges' Thoughts:Nick: this is sweet, well written again so it works for the theme. I do find problem with Toni Braxton in the song though. I think she’s over signing a fair amount, which does degrade the song’s quality for me. (4 for quality, 2.5 for theme, 6.5 overall.)
Mylo: Here’s a big R&B hit, one that I’m unfamiliar with. But wow, the taste and talent jumped out! It’s slower than I’d prefer for this type of song but those vocals forgive that, they’re extremely expressive and I love every inflection and stray sound. It’s not necessarily special in any way but it doesn’t need to be. My issue lies in the ‘deep’ part. Again, sad doesn’t equal deep for me, I think sadness can be just as light as happiness. This song sounds quite ‘deep’ (Although I’ve typed that word so much know it’s become meaningless lol) but the lyrics aren’t really doing it for me haha. I mean, the hook is “Un-break my heart”, it’s hard to be that deep from that lol. Still, alright pick and a nice listen. (4/5 song, 3/5 theme. 7/10 overall.)
Trilogy: To start, this song has always been unbelievably cheesy to me. Just look at those lyrics. I do like the melody and maybe the beat, and Toni here is pretty rough on the ears, not going to lie. Not a bad song by any means, but it damn certainly should've been better. (5/10)

finishing just around the middle we have...7. SHOOTER & surfy Overall Score: 43.3Roadblock Rank: #7 | Detour Rank: #11Roadblock Results:(Sent by Shooter) Judges' Thoughts:Nick: this song is nearly perfect. the beat is groovy as hell, Janelle Monáe is simply a great singer, and those guitars are sick. great pick (10/10)Mylo: I really, really wanted to give this a 10. Unfortunately one pick was ever so slightly better, which is a shame for this song because in any other circumstance it would’ve easily been the best. Where do we begin? First, this song has more brilliant moments than possibly anything other song. That hit after the first ‘yeah’, that little ‘why’ in the background, the entire pre-chorus, the multi-layering of her vocals in ‘compression’ and ‘confession’, the small guitar lick in the chorus, the entire last minute. Get that Lady Gaga GIF up, it’s show-stopping and magnificent. What a tune, it’s crazy to believe that people didn’t make this a hit just on sheer talent. Oh well, I’ll give it the deserved dues here! (9.9/10)Adrian: This song is so mid in my opinion. I can see why others enjoy it, but I don't fully get the love for it. I don't think it's that interesting and I'm not a fan of the chorus. I can get into some Janelle Monáe songs like Pynk, but I just think this song in particular is mediocre for the most part. (5.0/10)Overall: 24.9Detour Results:(Big Wish)Judges' Thoughts:Nick: I’ve never liked this one. I’ve always found it painfully generic. And like the chorus is just very annoying in my opinion. ah well, no hate on you if you like this song a lot of course. but yeah, I’m not a fan, though it can’t deny it fits the pretty perfectly. (0.5 for quality, 3 for theme = 3.5/10)
Mylo: Y’all better know I adore this song! Yes, it can be considered ‘generic’ and ‘uninspired’ but when that chorus kicks in none of that really matters. It’s such a powerful, triumphant song that it’s hard to not sing along. The production works great but the star is Kelly herself. She throws herself into this song and every vocal addition is welcomed. It would’ve received a 5/5 if not for another song being slightly better in the detours. The theme is pretty well satisfied, the sound is certainly there. The title line is the best example, Chicago’s constant losses could’ve just made them stronger and come back harder. I deduct some points for this obviously and clearly being about a relationship, unless these teams of basic straight men have been interteam dating lol? But that chorus solves it with a universal and direct message of overcoming problems. (4.9/5 song, 4/5 theme, 8.9/10 overall)
Trilogy: The songwriting is uninspired and borderline laughable, enough said. However, the production is good and Kelly brings an amazing vocal performance. This had potential, it just didn't use it wisely. (6.0/10)
Overall: 18.4
Hey 7th isn't too bad. I think you two have a good shot to move up in the future. You'll get a +1 bonus next round

the eighth team checking in is...8. @jadenlefranks & shruggie Overall Score: 42.6Roadblock Rank: #9 | Detour Rank: #8Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Jaden)Judges' Thoughts:Nick: the first 3 or so minutes of this song are pretty good. the wonky instrumental in the middle doesn’t exactly do much for me. overall, it’s an alright song, though I think the relatively similar beat throughout most the 7 minutes does make it feel repetitive. (6/10)
Mylo: Submitting a 7+ minute song is a gutsy move! I appreciate the less than suspected pick! The song itself? It’s okay, it’s groovy and I kinda dig it but by the 4th minute I already mostly over it. Long songs can work, look at ‘Enchanted’ and ‘It’s Enough’, but this doesn’t change it up enough or have a good enough premise to justify its length for me. It could be good study music? But that’s about it for me, sorry peeps~ (6.5/10)Adrian: I don't know why it took me so long to get into Tame Impala's music. Now I just really dig it, especially this song. It's a little long, but it sounds really good. I love the production on here and it manages to stay interesting throughout the entire 8 minutes. The vocals are really good as well. So yeah, I like this a lot. (9.8/10)Overall: 22.3Detour Results:
(Big Wish)Judges' Thoughts:Nick: this is a jam but I really have to be in the mood for it. it’s so energetic and fun that it can be overwhelming and pretty annoying if I’m in a more mellow mood. but when I’m in the mood for it this song hits so hard man. I love how cheesy it is and how it embraces it. and obviously it fits the theme perfectly. (6 for quality, 3 for theme, 9 overall.)
Mylo: Confession: I’ve never remembered hearing this song before. So this was actually a brand new listen haha. For its credit, it’s a good first listen! Fun, energetic and every performer works together. They all get their own chance to shine which is very satisfying to see. I don’t really think it nails the theme great though, it’s obviously happy and about winning but the song is literally called “All I Do Is Win”, and the prompt was about a team that didn’t win until now haha. It sounds upbeat enough and like a group cheer that I’ll forgive it partially, but I think it’s somewhat of a pick not considered well enough. (4/5 song, 3/5 theme. 7/10 overall.)
Trilogy: If you think about it, a lot of rap songs could've qualified enough for this theme, it's just the chorus yelling to be picked for the occasion. Staying on-topic, the chorus is definitely a fun one, while the rest of features don't bring their A-game here. To keep it short, their verses are below average and unmemorable. (5.5/10)
Congrats! You'll receive a +0.8 bonus next round

here comes team #9. it's...9. @chroniclea & crazyb Overall Score: 40Roadblock Rank: #8 | Detour Rank: #12Roadblock Results:
(Sent by chrona)
Judges' Thoughts: Nick: well this is a jam. I really like the instrumental and I think the song nails like an upbeat tone while still having some well less upbeat lyrics. the one thing holding it back for me is that I don’t exactly love her voice. but overall a very good, almost great, song (8/10)Mylo: Now this is a fun song! There’s little for me to say, it’s a cute indie bop haha. I support songs like this and I support this song, it’s enjoyable in every way. The vocals are good, the instrumental is good and the lyrics are solid too. It may not be the new Radioactive or anything (Although I imagine plenty of you would see that as a positive), nevertheless I’m into it. (8/10)Adrian: I found this to be pretty enjoyable for the most part. The instrumentals are good, I like the vocals, and I like how fast it is. I don't think it's the most memorable thing I've heard, but for a one-time listen, I thought it was enjoyable enough. (8.0/10)Overall: 24Detour Results:
(Big Wish)
Judges' Thoughts: Nick: I think like half the teams considering sending this haha. but yeah I can totally see why. It’s a jam and it fits the theme super well. what is there to really say about this one that hasn’t already been said? I feel like this is one of those songs that basically everyone likes. It’s not quite perfect on quality, as it can be a bit overwhelming when I’m not in the mood, but it totally gets a perfect score for the theme. (6.5 for quality, 3 for theme = 9.5/10)
Mylo: Submitting Queen is a gutsy move lol. I’ve made it no secret I’m not the biggest fan of them, but thankfully you submitted one of their better songs. By better, it’s still not something I’d choose to listen to but there was certainly worse picks haha. The vocals and production are just not for me, I get the appeal but I feel drowned in the layers. It’s a song I very quickly wanted to skip haha. This song does a passable job of fitting the theme. Like, you can’t really fail with a title ‘We Are The Champions’ lol. But this song otherwise doesn’t do much for me. I can’t imagine the team jamming along to anything but the grating chorus, and that’s an image filled with alcohol and body odour that I don’t need in my life lol. The verses are especially unfit for me, they’re so quiet in comparison and it’s lyrically obviously unrelated. Sorry :/ (1.5/5 song, 2/5 theme, 3.5/10 overall)
Trilogy: I know everyone holds this in regard as the quincentennial triumph song, but i've never been able to stand this. Though a better arena rock song the other rock song in Big Wish, this is just annoying in every aspect. Sorry. (3.0/10)
Overall: 16

just escaping the bottom 3 we have...10. tanooki & @doinktheclownOverall: 40Roadblock Rank: #3 | Detour Rank: #13Roadblock Results:
(Sent by Juggalo)Judges' Thoughts:Nick: this song is near perfect. the way the verses build up to that amazing chorus (one of the best choruses ever imo) is just incredible. great pick guys, I hope I can help it out (10/10)Mylo: I FOUND IT. Thanks team, I’ve heard this song so many times but never knew what it was. It was this song, thanks so much! It’s a good song too, with really nice guitar work and head-bumping drums to match. Seriously, that guitar solo is so random yet so enticing, love it! Weirdly, I find the best part of the song the way the lead singer sings “understand”. There’s something about the melody and the way his voice drawls on that word that lodges into my brain. Thank you for finally showing me the name of this one haha. (8.5/10)Adrian: This song is cool enough. I think it has good instrumentals, but that's really all that stood out to me about it. I don't think it's very memorable, but it was still a pleasant enough listen. (8.0/10)Overall: 26.5Detour Results:(Deep Dish)Judges' Thoughts:Nick: man this was a lot. super well written, definitely fits the theme super well. that also makes the song kinda overwhelming though. I do like the beat though, and I think Mike Shinoda is a good rapper/singer. really good choice considering the theme though, but I can’t score this too highly as I doubt I’d seek it out too often just due to how powerful it is. (4 for quality, 3 for theme = 7/10)
Mylo: If I thought submitting Queen was a risky move, how about submitting Mike Shinoda, an artist who I’ve liked zero songs ever haha? Perhaps this could’ve been that lucky song to change the tune but this song is mediocre at best. The problem is pretty obvious, this dude is embarrassing lol. It reminds me of NF more than anything, which says about all I need to. And unlike NF, he didn’t have the decency to make a good hook for his song and instead made a brain-numbing chorus with no fun but no emotional resonance either. Now, this song would definitely be considered deep by some people. I mean, they’re most likely 12-year-old white boys who love Logic but hey, it’s an appeal? Unfortunately, I don’t like Logic and I’m tired of hearing songs like this. And yet this song tried over and over and over again to be deep and fails to do anything but weakly veil its boring dull lyrics with meaning. I’ll give it a pity point for having some lines in there that are fine but surrounding them with cringe-worthy clichés basically removes any positives it could’ve had, meaning I’m going easy on this song. If I wasn’t trying to be professional here, I’d simply call this song dull trash and be completely satisfied in that description. Not impressed, sorry. (1.5/5 song, 1/5 theme, 2.5/10 overall)
Trilogy: As much I feel sorry for Mike for losing what was perhaps his best friend, I just wasn't feeling this song. His performance is listenable but the sound of the song just drags and drags on. I'm not forcing him to make quality songs about Chester but I wasn't amused by the effort as an art form. (4.0/10)
Overall: 13.5
