This has quietly become one of my all time favorites from Taylor over the years when at first it wouldn't even have been in my Top 5 for 1989, loove the new version, her vocals really shine on this one

Debuts at #25 in the UK, easily out-peaking the original (#40).

Fifth single from an album that had sold loads at that point, no major remix single version, streaming still in baby diapers and airplay not counting for those charts... I kinda see why it happened.

I kinda see why it happened. yeah, when you break it down it makes sense. I was just taken aback at first cuz 1989 almost felt like teenage dream in the states. The singles were absolutely inescapable.

I forget now but Iโm sure it was huge on radio here too. However, radio doesnโt count for the charts here. Iโm also not sure if streaming counted then or not, too

One thing to probably note is that even if streaming was a thing at that point 1989 wasn't on Spotify until 2017 so it probably would've been at a disadvantage compared to other songs that were available across all platforms.

Forgot about that. Basically it needed big sales but everyone already had the album.

I imagine Shake It Off and Bad Blood (Remix) would've done even better (and probably would have blocked AATB and maybe Cheerleader from the #1), Blank Space would've done about the same, and Style and Wildest Dreams would've had legitimate shots at #1. While I don't think Taylor's beef with Spotify et al. was completely unwarranted (she brought up some valid points that in many ways are still issues today), her team definitely missed out on having that level of chart dominance.

Not releasing the radio/video remix as a single/streaming was a curious choice. The album version simply pales.
Same comment about Taylor's version - this would've been a great opportunity for Taylor to have the 'exclusive' radio remix version. I don't get it.

To be fair Spotify was still relatively small compared to today. I think they would have done about the same overall. Bad Blood in particular only got to #1 because of sales. It was about a year later that sales completely cratered.

While I still prefer the original, the new version of "Wildest Dreams" is still good!

I swear I'm the only person who ever preferred the original version. The radio edit is just too theatrical and over-the-top towards the end. The driving force of the song is the 1-2-and-3-4 drum pattern, but the radio edit drowns that out entirely and it becomes overly indulgent to the point where it becomes a wall of sound.
This new version seems to sit somewhere in between the two, and it just lacks the pros of either one. I do think her vocals sound stronger, though, which is very nice, but there seems to be an effect missing? They don't sound as breathy and airy as the original, which is part of the charm, and I'm convinced it's due to some effect that was put on the vocals of the original that isn't present in the new version.

I actually prefer the original album version to the radio edit too, I think the added drumbeats feel distracting.

Completely agree with this, I want to play the new version exclusively, but "Wildest Dreams" is one of my favourite songs of all time and it just doesn't sound right without this effect.

I feel like the new version sounds more immediate (and in that sense I prefer it), but the effect missing on her vocals sticks out to me (and in that sense I prefer the original). In any case, though, I feel like this is only something hardcore fans will notice; the re-recording will sound virtually identical to the casual listener, which is the point of this whole project.

I don't even find that many differences between the original and the new one tbh. These re-recordings were always going to be more interesting on her early albums because by 1989/Red she had already improved her vocals a bit.

55 spins is nothing. It's just a few HAC stations (mind you, HAC/AC heavily play recurrents) are spinning the TV in place of the original so it appeared on the chart since the TV's are still technically newer releases. It's understandable
