Here, I will display four different extras. Here they go
This one may not seem like something that would have crossed over to Alt, but I think it would have been possible. This was Kiss slightly veering into New Wave imo, even if they aren't something one would think of as New Wave at all. Kiss "I Was Made For Loving You"
The second one seems slightly like an earlier Alanis Morisette or Sheryl Crow. I could imagine she had influenced them in some way. Although the first thing I think of when I think of the name "Chucky" is the evil doll. Rickie Lee Jones "Chuck E's In Love"
The third extra is yet another one that was also on the Mainstream rock RD several years ago. This one does have the power pop sound similar to many songs on this list, especially from artists like The Cars or The Fabulous Poodles. I have him on the 1978 Alt list too with his band the Motors. Hist last name is also namesake of a famous Russian composer. Bram Tchaikovsky "Girl of My Dreams"
The last is a punk cover of one of the best 60s songs of all time. UK Subs "She's Not There"

That Kiss jam right there would have shaken up my top 5. I think This Kiss song just might have broken into the Alt chart in an Alternate reality. If I recall AC/DC, Cheap Trick, and quite a few other straight out Rock acts landed air time on Modern Rock formats.

More extras: Two Days Left, as of now, though I still only have 3 lists. I may extend this, depending on how many more lists I get and if others are interested in sending lists.
Here, we have "Down In the Park" by Tubeway Army, "Prisoners" by the Vapors, and "Instant Hit" by the Slits.
Tubeway Army "Down in the Park"
The Vapors "Prisoners"
The Slits "Instant Hit"

Hello, everybody. I want to let you know I do currently have only four lists (Thank you to everyone who has sent in a list thus far), but I do think more participants would be preferred. A rankdown with four people doesn't feel like much of a rankdown, especially one with 100 songs. Therefore, I will be extending this to October 3rd. I cannot promise I will be doing more extras until reveals start. I may do extras at my own discretion.

This rankdown is being postponed. So far, I have only six lists and would prefer even more. Hopefully this is acceptable. I will move the current due date to October 24th.

You know you can still start it even with less lists than you expected.

You know you can still start it even with less lists than you expected. I totally agree. I failed to update the post well enough before the previous due date, so I'm simply re-opening the rankdown. Unfortunately, it mostly is based on my mental health issues. I do plan to have better skills at rankdown creating in the future, however. I do understand it might not feel fair to you and others who previously sent in lists, but this time I don't want to extend it past this point. I feel bad that this and the other 2 rankdowns I did in the past may have left a sour taste in peoples mouthes about my hosting abilities, which I want to improve upon.

I love how this Rankdown has been open for a year already. Theres been like at least 5 of AAA, RYM, R&B 90s, Hiphop Series, One Hit Wonder Series Rankdowns done in that span. Some of them maybe even more.

This has been a long time coming, but I have been having issues with committing to different activities in my life due to mental health issues going on. I fully intend on improving and am seeing a counselor. Thank you to the 6 of you who already have sent lists in, much appreciated. Anyway, I have extended this one, since I probably will be unable to host a rankdown until mid-December, thus the new deadline is December 11th. I won't be extending it this time, and I should be starting reveals on December 12th. I also am trying to make sure I can get these posts done without having to edit them repeatedly, especially due to the spoilers.

Some of them maybe even more. I did do another rankdown in that time (which I think you participated in), so this one was put on hold for awhile. I didn't even get any lists until around August for this one, I think. I'm also just trying to work on making more effort in completing rankdowns. I want to eventually be able to have better mental health and even be able to host about 5+ lists in a year.

Happy Thanksgiving. We currently have 19 days left for this Rankdown. I won't do any extras right now, but will likely get at least a few in the next couple of days. I'd encourage any of you to check this playlist/Rankdown out, since many of these songs are basically fundamental to the founding of Alternative music as a genre. We got the first steps for The Pretenders, The B-52's, Bauhaus, and The Cure.

14 days left! Here's Frank Zappa. He had 5 albums in 1979, and is someone I'd argue was one of the people highly influential in creating the Alternative genre in the 1960's with his band Mothers of Invention being probably influential to alot of New Wave acts. Here's "Joe's Garage", his biggest hit that year was "Dancing Fool", but I felt like this one made more sense here.

I don't know if it has to do with that there are just alot of active rankdowns right now, or if it's just that I didn't do very well at the 1966 Rankdown and went too slow with it, but I do want to make sure to do better on this one. I am trying to make an effort to not constantly push back the due dates, but I've only been doing it alot for this one because I don't get very many, and then I extend it sometimes when the due date arrives in an effort to get more people, and I wasn't even really advertising the RD much last month, which led to the previous extension. Like, I might be able to extend it an additional week in case I think some more people will add lists, but I don't want to push it too far, it will feel unfair to y'all who have sent it.

Part of why I've been passing on submitting for this rankdown is, yes, your lackluster previous hosting jobs and the fact that I've pretty much always been occupied by something I've given greater priority. Plus I was kind of put off by the "five bonus songs" gimmick. However, I'll also admit another reason was that, I felt rather satisfied with where we capped off the official series of Alternative radio chart rankdowns, so I didn't feel very much motivation to participate in yet another 100-song Alternative rankdown that wasn't based on any real data this time, and where most of the songs that hold personal significance to me had already been ranked elsewhere. But, frankly, it's gotten too sad watching your eternal persistence in trying to complete this 😠So I'll throw you a bone by giving you another ballot. {Spoiler}maybe in exchange you could hand over that AAA ranking you said you were working on?

Alright, everyone. Time for some extras. Today, we have...... seven extras.
EXTRA Secret Service "Oh, Susie"
This group was a Swedish New Wave group.
EXTRA The Flys "Energy Boy"
An English Punk/New Wave group from the late-70s. We may need some energy to get these rankdowns done
EXTRA Dexy's Midnight Runners "Dance Stance"
Not "Come On Eileen", this one is 3 years before that one came out. It's their first song, and I think Troy mentioned it in a list once.
EXTRA The Plastics "Top Secret Man"
This one is a Japanese New Wave group. Turning Japanese? I really think so.
EXTRA The Yachts "Love You, Love You"
The album cover is the coolest thing ever. I like these minimalist designs. Alot of these bands aren't ones I really know, but I discovered new bands from the Wikipedia list of 70's-80's New Wave bands.
EXTRA The Ramones "She's the One"
From the same album as "I Wanna Be Sedated"
EXTRA The Sugarhill Gang "Rapper's Delight"
The beginning of rap. I still put this in the extras since we've had other rap songs on the Alt year ends, like in 1982 with "The Message", probably the best early rap song of all.
Rockin until youre 101 years old.
