MCC definitely feels like a loner from her words, and I surely do get it quite often. I think the alternate version from her 2018 album (Sometimes Just The Sky, which was released on the same day as Golden Hour by the way) improves upon the original because the music fits the mood better. Condolences to ccarter1023 for losing his #1 but I think it is expected? I'll link the original version appeared in The Age of Miracles below:

I enjoy how James McMurtry sells the denial emotion in She Loves Me, and how the song slowly progresses into doo-wop influences. The parent album is an often overlooked one in 2015. tim loses his last place rank. Only the last place rank of singingrulebritannia and @trilogy remain in rankdown now.

From their 2016 album American Band, What It Means from legendary band Drive-By Truckers is a politically charged song mostly about police brutality and racism. I like the urgency in the delivery although it can be repetitive musically. It's their 2010s era highlight to me. This got a great start before tumbling out of top half. With 5 top 10 ranks and 3 bottom 5 ranks, this is the 3rd highest divisive song in the rankdown. bboat11 got a perfect ranking.

Kudos to the messaging for "What It Means" but oof... not a very good song.

I found Noah Guthrie by the recommendation from The Musical Divide (spoiler: there are a few of them making in the rankdown list). To my surprise he is a cast member of Glee and has appeared on America's Got Talent. Wishing I Was Wrong is a great pedal steel and fiddle-driven song about the inevitable heartbreak. What surprises me the most though is that this becomes the highest divisive song and climbs up the ranks as the submission goes on. I thought his vocals would not fit Pulse's taste (similar to Anderson East and Marcus King), but surprisingly we have 3 top 3 ranks, while @trilogy and singingrulebritannia can celebrate their last place being gone finally. zack97 got a perfect ranking.

Dusty Rust is another artist that The Musical Divide introduced to me. As the opening song of the album, Rose Without A Home laid the foundation for the western music and content. The high notes are surprisingly solid, and the fast-paced guitar solo is exciting too. (P.S. I always want to know whether Dusty Rust is a stage name, but given he is essentially a nobody (192 monthly listeners on Spotify), I don't think I can find the answer soon.) Would be cool if this made the top half. .indulgecountry got a perfect ranking.

Never On the Hurting End comes from the latest album Electrostatic of Courtney Patton, who is a solid artist in own right and also Jason Eady's wife. This is a twist from kiss-off songs that male artists produce regularly, sprinkled with "old women" vocals.
This has been one of the more consistent songs in terms of movements. Mostly being close to top half but cannot quite get there.

The new Ian Noe album has more accessible tracks, but I chose Appalachia Haze because I like how the steel guitar can also be hallucinogenic. People living under the haze lead a terrible life, and the living environment even gradually disintegrates, but in his words, the music he plays with his friend can bring a glimmer of hope, which also reflects the theme of album well.
It sucks to see this from being a top 10 contender to not even reaching top half in the end. At least I help this song to win a three-way tie.

I'm not surprised by what's made the top 20 (and what hasn't, heh), and that's not a bad thing! I'm predicting Ashley McBryde and friends for the No. 1 selection. (Also, hey, thanks for the website shout, recordyear. Lol)

Surprised to see Wishing I Was Wrong being the most polarizing song here. Noah's vocal was really pleasant, and the ups and downs in the production/instrument were well constructed.

Stacy Antonel is yet another artist I found from TMD. I like the wilderness and the sometime unhinged vibe from the parent album Always The Outsider, and Heartbroken Tomorrow is a great showcase. "Heartbroken tomorrow/Catatonic today" is one of the best opening lines I have heard last year. What's even more devastating in the lyrics is that her tears have dried up, showing her hysteria. It has the most expansive bluegrass-ish solo last year too. After a few instances of falling into back half, it just went back into top half by the last list.

James and the Shame is the stage name used by Rhett James McLaughlin of the comedy duo Rhett & Link for his solo album Human Overboard, released last year. The album discussed his departure from and criticisms of Christian evangelism. In Where We're Going, he and his wife try to walk their own path after leaving the religion. I like the melody and his vocal reminds me of less twangy Mark Wystrach (Midland) which is pleasant to listen to.

Adeem the Artist is mostly championed by Spectrum Pulse and their latest album White Trash Revelry is covered by SCM, The Needle Drop, among others. For the introduction to this rankdown series though, I chose this song from their album Cast Iron Pansexual released in 2021. Instead of bashing the artists just because their politics don't align with yours, they make a nuanced take on the "good guy bad songs" with interpolation of arguably one of the best songs from that artist. Given the recent revival of country song interpolation, I figure this would be an interesting example. Condolences to ethanhunt from losing your #1.

I know the new Sunny Sweeney album released last year is not too popular in Pulse, but I would still like to highlight more of it in rankdowns. One of them is Wasting One on You. On this traditional country-soul track, she shows the trepidation of falling in love again in a bar. While the cigarette and the chance might end up being futile, at least she's willing to give it a try. I like the hook-worthy trumpets here.
It performed worse than her previous appearance in this series, but I am not too surprised.

Dwell in the darkness of city life, the protagonists of Back Home cannot escape and return home. The combination of the two gritty vocals have subtle differences, like the fact that the featured artist is half the age of the lead implying its a common occurrence, or Arlo McKinley's nasal vocal reminds me of Robert Ellis a bit. I enjoy the beautiful rippling guitar and violin as well. Condolences to gonecountry for losing your #1.
