Maybe it just got some curiosity/nostalgia spins due to the 4th of July holiday? I just can't imagine this actually doing anything at radio, but I could see where the timing of its release was opportune for at least a handful of spins. I would bet it got a syndicated spin on some sort of 4th of July radio program yesterday that resulted in 30-some total plays across 30-some stations. A syndicated spin on that type of show won’t usually result in a playlist add, but I could see a couple of adds if a couple stations do want to keep it in light/overnight rotation the next few weeks. Looks like Big Machine was offering an hour-long Fourth of July special hosted by Darryl himself available for stations to play. This song got played twice in the hour. (Started the show and ended it with it)

I rarely come in this forum, but I gave this a curiosity listen due to the notorious reputation of the original, and I didn't have high hopes. It's a bit better than I expected, but I still didn't enjoy it. I'll try not to get too political, but I agree with others in this thread that this really misses the mark. Yes, it would be great if we could all be united, and not get too caught up in political echo chambers, where we're just going along with whatever most people in our political party think rather than critically evaluating ideas for ourselves. However, it feels condescending and dismissive to say "let's all just agree to disagree!" when marginalized communities continue to have to fight to have the most basic of human rights every day, and things only continue to move backwards. It's quite ironic, because I would argue the tone that this song should have struck is that there are some things (equality) worth fighting for, which was the message of the original song.

I know for the sake of the song they should have brought in maybe a liberal singer or someone who has stayed non political who could emphasize that point better.
