Glad somebody brought it up. I really wish this would crumble but the general public is misogynistic and like their catchy bad children's pop so I think this is going to go Top 10 and JT will get away with it, as he always has. The song is bad and is being completely carried by radio payola. The streaming numbers show the public said NO. Well, he's in the movie that's been #1 on Netflix for the past 3 weeks so he can always go that route too I guess

I honestly think Britney just killed what hope was left for him to come back. Females in particular will not react kindly to this revelation and the market for older boybands is usually highly dependant on nostalgic older female audiences.

It's unfortunate that Justin clearly jumped on the reunion thing to grab the group's goodwill for himself, only for his image to be so far in the gutter that he's probably dragging *NSYNC down with him more than they're pulling him up. It looks like radio might be getting ready to drop BP in response to Britney's memoir. the "we're going to make you pay!!" lynchmob mentality towards Justin Timberlake is tiresome. It's been decades. Let the man age. and yes, he was too big for Nsync, just like any frontrunner of a group who goes on to do solo work is. There are too many to name. It's the music industry. It's cutthroat. Welp, that first line aged about as well as Justin's face did. With respect to the bolded, the problem that some of the fans had was not with Justin thinking he was "too big" to return to *NSYNC, it was kinda the opposite actually. Justin agreed with the other members to take a break after Celebrity and then work on the next album following that break, then waited until either the very end of 2004 or early 2005, well after the Justified era was done, to say he wasn't returning (and allegedly he couldn't even be bothered to tell them in person, he did it in a conference call lol). None of the other four had solo aspirations**, but during that break-turned-indefinite-hiatus they all were basically making 'side hustle' moves to pass the time because they thought they still needed to keep *NSYNC their main priority - they still owed Jive albums and the label and their manager were still telling the guys to submit whatever material they'd written - when they could and should have been hitting the ground running to pursue their other interests. Or at the very least, they could have known that any song for album #4 needed to be written with four voices in mind and not five. The way Justin went about it blindsided the rest of the group and is somewhat the reason they didn't try continuing as a foursome, so basically you have a portion of the fandom who will forever be angry that we didn't get at least one more album, with or without Justin. **The JC fangirlies are understandably the most bitter because a) the narrative that Justin was the sole frontrunner is obnoxious levels of revisionist history and b) JC was the one other member who had star potential and Jive thoroughly dicked him over in every way possible (I will die on the hill that Schizophrenic was a mostly good album that was horribly mishandled). But JC more or less said that he treated his album as a side project "to get some ideas out of my head." He had to be coaxed into recording anything at all, and probably wouldn't have if he'd known the group's end was imminent; he wanted to pitch to other artists and would have known to immediately direct his focus on that. So yeah, it's totally fine that Justin wanted to do his own thing, but why didn't he just say that instead of fucking with everyone else's time, money, and/or reputation. The industry being cutthroat doesn't hold up as a reason here because none of them posed a threat to the solo career that had already taken off. They all knew Justin had goals beyond the group and they were supportive of it. Justin's attitude toward the group is really just weird af and I have never been able to make sense of it. What he did to Britney and Janet was objectively much crueler but you can at least somewhat parse the evil logic in his actions toward them; they were a means to an end to him. Stringing along SYNC for the hell of it when the means had already been realized and his entire aim was to distance himself from them, idgi. And the really funny thing about saying Justin got too big for them was that during this same time frame, Destiny's Child released Destiny Fulfilled on the back of Beyoncé's breakout solo album, which was an even bigger smash than Justified. There was never any reason for anyone to think Justin was above fulfilling a contractual requirement. It's water under the bridge now as none of them are hurting for a check and it's obvious that none of the guys themselves are mad or jealous of Justin's success at all, but they'll never get all of the fandom to agree with them on that; it's too divided. (+ the portion of them that are also Britney and/or Janet fans will never take their collective foot off his neck)

In terms of the song collapsing, bad press is probably part of it. But it's also dead across all metrics aside from radio. The interest for this clearly isn't there and radio taking it this far is already generous.
If they had released something that tapped into their classic sound, I think they could have created a moment. But as is, this was never going to be a thing. Such a wasted opportunity. They would kill a tour though, nostalgia would fill seats. Unfortunately, that kind of thirst for nostalgia acts doesn't always translate to new music.

True, I was just thinking the song would probably linger in the top 15 for a while. Now I'm not so sure it will make it to the movie release date. I personally don't think the song is bad (I like it more than Can't Stop the Feeling), but it's just too obviously a song originally written by and for Justin solo that he later tacked *NSYNC onto. That would have been more than fine in 2017 or 2018, but not now. There's no trademark harmonic moment like in Girlfriend or the running up the scales in It's Gonna Be Me, and not letting JC carry the song from the bridge to the final chorus with a belted note borders on criminal. It being dead across the board didn't surprise me at all though and that should have been expected going into this. If you want to make yourself feel old, just remember that *NSYNC's entire discography predates 9/11. Gen Z literally does not know who these guys are and they got very little playlist placements so they wern't going to pick up any curiosity streams. The screaming teenagers and young adults from 2000 are now soccer moms and half of them probably don't even know this song or a pending reunion exists. Literally the only promo this and Trolls 3 had going for it is 'look y'all, *NSYNC is back together!' but NSYNC is unable to do any promo aside from an appearance on Hot Ones bc of the SAG strike, so they can't even make people aware enough of their reuniting to exploit it. Bad timing and the universe continuing to wreak karmic havoc on Justin's life is just the nail in the coffin. Tour or residency will definitely eat tho, so long as they don't do a 'joint' Justin/NSYNC tour (saw that rumor in the NSYNC reddit...terrible idea and I hope it's either not true or an idea that dies as soon as they do the market research and see that it won't work).

"Better Place" falls to 82 on billboard hot 100 this week. The trolls soundtrack is out right now.
This song is most likely done im not sure the movie will save it at this point let alone a music video.

this peaked in 4 weeks after release . the bad streaming numbers helped kill it. maybe there is a chance it can get a second wind with the Trolls movie release in 3 weeks.

Just a note that AC has started going into holiday mode. If the HAC update holds until tonight's published update (a 14 spin difference between this one and Fall Out Boy's "We Didn't Start the Fire" at #11), "Better Place" should officially be a top 10 hit on HAC.
