Funnily enough I listened to WANEGBT TV today for the first time in a while and it’s really not as bad as I remember. The “weeees” aren’t even bad tbh. The production just doesn’t hit as hard.
22 is such a perfect pop song tbh, and I actually prefer the TV quite a bit. I heard the original accidentally recently and it didn’t sound as good as the TV. Definitely should have made the top 10
Nothing New I enjoy but I find a tad overrated so I’m glad it’s out now.

I am pleasantly surprised "Message in a Bottle" wasn't tanked and is still in.

I Almost Do i feel should hit a little harder than it does but it is good. Babe proves that even i have my limits in terms of how much mid country i can enjoy. 22 and WANEGBT are both good pop songs but far from her best. And that applies to either version. Ok even if i probably would’ve put it lower now how tf is Nothing New already out?

Hi! Our original plan was for fearlessarrow to do a set of 10 the other day and for me to close with the Top 10. However, feary has come under the weather, which is why we haven’t continued as quickly with reveals, so I’m coming to the rescue with reveals for #15-#6! Let’s wish Feary a speedy recovery in the meantime! <3 #15

I’m so sorry it took half an hour, lol. Google Sheets once again proved to be a fucking nightmare for me, lmfao. I don’t think it would be a #TeamTaylor rankdown if I didn’t struggle with it!!! ”Come Back…Be Here” was always one of my favorites from Red, and Taylor’s Version elevated it to an indescribable degree. I was absolutely obsessed with it all over again for the better part of the entire next year. #14

“The Very First Night” is a song that I imagine would’ve been a massive hit in 2012, especially for fans of Carly Rae Jepsen, whose music is very similar to this sound—electric, catchy pop with hooky choruses that worm their way into your ears and refuse to leave. It’s such a bop!!! #13

“Starlight” is one of the songs on Red that never made much sense to me. It’s a great song, but in the context of an album primarily revolving around the beginning and end of a relationship and the aftermath of that breakup, it just doesn’t fit in my opinion. It would’ve made much more sense to me if this was one of the Vault tracks that we would’ve only just been hearing in 2021. #12

Snow Patrol is responsible for “Chasing Cars,” which happens to actually be my favorite song of all time. So naturally, “The Last Time” is one of my favorites from Red. The way their voices blend together. The haunting piano at the beginning. The crescendo to that epic, emotional, cinematic climax. It’s all just perfect to me. I would’ve been ecstatic to see this make the Top 10! #11

Ah yes! IKYWT(TV) missed the top 10!! RED is an, for me, where the deep cuts are much stronger than the singles.

Well…this song certainly fell from the state of grace it was in!!! “I Knew You Were Trouble” misses out on the Top 10, taking a gnarly fall from its once-revered status, as it placed bronze in the original rankdown of Red. While I agree that Scooter’s Stolen Version happens to be the better, which is what made Taylor’s Version sink to the middle for me, her version isn’t quite nearly as atrocious as a lot of y’all make it out to be imo. It’s still catchy, and it’s still a bop! It just…didn’t quite age like the other girls, is all!
RECAP:

Ronan (Taylor’s Version)Before we move on to the Top 10, we’d be remiss if we didn’t give an honorable mention to a very special young man who was taken from the world far too early. Some of you expressed displeasure at the exclusion of “Ronan (Taylor’s Version)” from the song list, and to make up for that and honor him, we thought we’d at least highlight the song and the very special meaning it has. Taylor wrote “Ronan” after reading Maya Thompson's blog. Thompson is the mother of Ronan Thompson, who died in 2011 of neuroblastoma at the age of three. He had been treated at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's Hospital. Maya began writing in August 2010 when Ronan was diagnosed and she continued penning her entries in the blog Rockstar Ronan during the nine months that Ronan suffered from the illness before dying in May 2011, just three days before his fourth birthday. Maya worked through her grief by continuing the blog, writing letters to her late son whilst raising money and awareness for childhood cancer causes. She continues to update the blog to this day. The pair met in October 2011, when Taylor invited Maya to her concert at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. She wrote about her reaction when Taylor told her that she'd penned the song inspired by her blog entries; addressing her late son, Maya said that her calmness "...soon turned to complete and utter frozen shock when these words came out of her mouth: 'I wrote a song for Ronan.' The tears started pouring down my cheeks as soon as I heard her say those words. But her words didn't stop there. Not only did she write a song for you, but she wanted to know if it would be alright to perform it on the nationally televised Stand Up to Cancer show..." Taylor credits Maya as the co-writer of the song, as its lyrics are pulled directly from the Rockstar Ronan blog. In 2021, when Red (Taylor’s Version) was soon to be released, Taylor wrote to Maya, saying in part: “I've recently completed the re-recording of my 4th album, Red. It's really exceeded my expectations in so many ways, and one of those ways is that I thought it would be appropriate to add "Ronan" to this album. Red was an album of heartbreak and healing, of rage and rawness, of tragedy and trauma, and of the loss of an imagined future alongside someone. I wrote "Ronan" while I was making Red and discovered your story as you so honestly and devastatingly told it. My genuine hope is that you'll agree with me that this song should be included on this album. As my co-writer and the rightful owner of this story in its entirety, your opinion and approval of this idea really matters to me, and I'll honor your wishes here.” Needless to say, Maya granted permission for “Ronan” to be re-recorded, and when Red (Taylor’s Version) was released, so was a lyric video for the song. It features home movies and images of Ronan, given to Taylor by Maya herself. It’s one of the most equally heartwarming and heart-wrenching things I’ve ever seen: It’s now December 2023. Ronan would’ve been 17 by now; he turns 18 in May 2024. He’d have been in his senior year of high school now. I can’t begin to imagine the pain Maya is enduring knowing this. I can’t imagine what she thinks daily—where would her son be in life? What colleges would he be applying to? Which ones would be accepting him in? How would time have reshaped his features? What would he have been on his way to doing—what passions would’ve driven him, what purposes would’ve motivated him, what kind of impact would he have been making? This is the kind of heartbreak, the kind of loss, that you don’t get over—ever. My heart breaks for Maya every time I hear this song, and I hope when it eventually is time to go, Ronan is the first thing she sees and that it offers her a load of healing.

“Holy Ground” has always been another one of my favorites from Red. I do think, after enough time with it, that there’s something in the original that Taylor’s Version doesn’t quite capture, but it’s still a great recreation overall. #9

“I Bet You Think About Me” is a great song, with some clever one-liners and references (such as “Oh my God, she’s insane, she wrote a song about me!”), but over time, it’s simply become one of the songs on this album that I’m not as inclined to revisit. #8

“Better Man” is one of the two Red Vault songs we’d already heard long ago and had time to fall madly in love with—it was released in 2016 when Taylor decided to hand it off to country band Little Big Town, who sent it to #1. She was lauded for the songwriting in this one (she wrote the entire thing herself!!!), winning the 2017 CMA Award for Song of the Year during the reputation era, her 12th CMA overall: I love both LBT’s version and Taylor’s Version of this song. One of the reasons is its universal relatability; the lyrics are detailed enough to vividly tell an impactful story, but just vague enough to be open to interpretation. Whenever I hear it, I immediately think of all three of the men in my life who have let me down in big ways: my father, my former stepfather, and my grandfather. That’s what makes it hit for me. I really needed this song when Taylor’s Version came out—I wound up in tears listening to it for the first time. #7

“Treacherous” is timeless. The sound evokes a deep nostalgia, and it feels like one of those songs you’d find in a dramatic coming-of-age movie. Taylor’s Version manages to elevate that sound tenfold. I likely underranked this one by a little bit, it was so hard to put this list together. #6
