I could be wrong about this, but I'm starting to think that the only way to cause a shift away from Swift, would be if the Pop world were to experience a moment similar to when the Rock world experienced "Smells Like Teen Spirit." In other words, a new female artist needs to not only create a new and trendy sound, but also come up with an anthemic type of song to boot. Like Teen Spirit did with Gen X, there needs to be a song by a Gen Z artist that speaks to Gen Z as a whole directly.
Gayle kind of flirted with this idea a year ago, with "abcd...," but what is really needed is something with more of a punch that makes most Gen Z listeners shout out, "this is my anthem!" Of course, there's more to it though because whoever does this would also need to be consistent and keep getting hit after hit. I think that might be the biggest problem for a new artist, but maybe someone who comes up with an anthem type song that really catches on will perhaps keep people coming back, especially if they change the world of pop music with a brand new sound of sorts. Just a theory anyway.

Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish. Hard to make a case when Taylor is outstreaming, outouring and outselling all of them combined

That’s what I think will truly change the music scene, but unfortunately, it seems like many artists of our generation want to play it safe with the same TikTok 2 minute and 20 second songs with no bridge and not take any risks. It really seemed like something was starting in 2019 with all the new artists blowing up, but then everything stopped by the end of 2021. The 2020s in music is specifically our decade with so much of us coming out of age, and we’re just letting the ‘00s/‘10s artists run it atm.

Isn't this sort of what happened to Katy Perry, she got wiped away by the Trap-Rap sound post 2016. This sounds like Olivia Rodrigo to me (or maybe more appropriately a Gen Z version of Avril). I may be repeating but there are a lot of female artists who have these 'moments' Lana Del Rey, Miley, Billie, Olivia, etc. the problem is they are unable to keep the momentum up. Taylor's ace is in her longevity. She's very similar to Beyoncé in that way. That seems to be what she is benefiting the most from. She's made her back catalog new again with her re-releases.

Yeah, Katy Perry seemed to be unable to hold up on the Pop charts for the second half of the 2010s. I always found it to be still somewhat surprising. Good point on Olivia Rodrigo. She probably, of anyone, has the best chance of becoming the new Queen of Pop sometime in the future. She already has accomplished multiple Top 10 and Top 5 hits and some Number Ones too. As you stated, longevity seems to be key. So, I am hoping that maybe Olivia will be able to hold up her successful run with lots of future hits. I think she has the best shot out of anyone due to her well-versed musical talent.

All of the above are queens but at this specific moment, it has to be Taylor Swift.
