Alright as promised. let's get this one on the roll. I charted 215 songs in 2023. The styles of music includes everything from Glam Metal to K-POP to Alternative Rock, Spanish Rock, New Wave and almost everything I came across in 2023 that gave me 80's vibes, so dress appropriate. I have 60 positions on my chart and I used the basic points system to figure out each song's position on the list. Chart position #60 gets 1 point and the crown position give a song 60 points. So if a song spent five weeks at #1 you get 60x5, and so forth. The rest of the points depends on the rest of the song's chart run. Pretty simple. Took me a entire month to do the math , but here they are. We might run into a few return songs from 2022, because they were still ranking points at the beginning of 2023, but you see that in the song's chart run. Those songs only submitted points for their 2023 chart run. I'll do sets of 15 or 20 or progress to more. Depends on my mood. the number in front of artist name is the weeks on chart. first number in () is the song's peak at the end of 2023 second number in () is the points they get for the 2023 year. blue number in () in song's position in 2022's list. Our final artist of the night deserves a history of his own. Gianni Coraini also known as Ken Laszlo is best known for the 1985 hit "Hey Hey Guy". Since then he has been on countless of Italo Disco labels from Memory to Time Records and cruising over to almost all the big Eurobeat labels of the 90's including ABeatC, HRG Attack, Vibration, Flea, Saifam, Delta. Singing under aliases like Mike Freeman, Danny Keith, Body Power, K.L. Jones, Jungle Bill, Mark Tower & Co just to name a few has left Ken Laszlo an impressive string of hits in the Italo Disco world. He is now is on Roberto Gabrieli's newly established GR Eurosound. "Stranger" captures the strong NRG vibe of the 90's, and was huge on the Eurobeat Scene. This song gave Ken Laszlo his 19th top 10 hit on my charts.

His last few albums have had a few good tracks, but none have captured his "Jessie's Girl" era more than last year's "Exit Wound(In The Shape of a Heart)" His vocals haven't changed a bit, so this song's whole experience feels like 1982. The song had just the crown position the last week of 2023, so Rick will surely be back in next year's chart.

First off, I feel like I should be doing a mid year chart instead. I lost a lot of time tallying up the points for each song so I got started really late. This year I'm tallying up the points as soon as the songs go recurrent. Should save me a lot of time for 2024's YE chart. any way, let's dish out the final set before the top 10. The next band is one everyone should know by now. They have been in the music scene since 2007. They have never broke out big in U.S charts ,but are famous all over the world. They are best known to me for the hit "Tokyo". This was a top 20 hit in Mexican Club music charts. It was also a top 3 hit on my own charts. Last year they hit big again on my charts with the top 5 hit "Breakdown Days". On first preview the song reminded of 80's New Wave icon, Howard Jones. The brass at the fade out is one of the song's long lasting highlights.

Another of my chart favorites returns this year with their hit "Jealousy". This one barely missed my top 100 songs of 2022 by ranking at #108 for the year. The song returned in a big way, and gave the band another #1 hit on my charts. If you liked the last Demi Lovato song we just heard then this one is right up your alley. Loud, powerful ,vocals and a chorus that is full of pure NRG. For my Top 10 of 2023 I will be doing something special by revealing one song each day of the week. Unless life changes my plans I will start those reveals Monday and keep going until we get to the crown song of 2023.

Getting right into #10. It comes from the only band who scored two songs in the top 10 for 2023. They first lit up my charts in 2014 when Indiepop was riding high on the Alternative charts. That first charter was "Reflections". It only reached #31 on the Billboard Alternative chart, but went all the way to #1 on my charts for a whole month. I've been charting them ever since with songs like "Machine", "Rock Bottom" and I always go that extra mile, and chart more tracks off their albums. The song that comes in at my #10 slot for 2023 is "Nosebleeds". This song was also a hit on The Alternative chart peaking at #32. We even got a chance to rank it on the 2023 YE RD. The song at #9 comes from a band that is no stranger to my charts. They first hit big in 1988 with their MTV breakout song "Madalaine". I ended up charting six tracks from that debut album. Four of them went top 10. Their second album "In The Heart of The Young" gave them their first #1 power ballad on my charts "Miles Away". This year Winger released their seventh album titled simply "Seven", and it became a major comeback for them among the hard rock community. Tonight we reveal song #8. It is the second song in this year's top 10 from MisterWives. This one doesn't appear on the 'Nosebleeds' album, but was a non album single just before the album was released. This song took its time climbing my chart. Seventeen weeks to get to the top 10. It spent another twelve climbing up til it finally reached it peak of #3. Even though "Nosebleeds" was a #1 song this one beats it by 6 points. Tonight's band are new comers to my chart. They are a an Alternative Indiepop Canadian band. This was the first single off their 2023 album 'I Am Not Myself'. It was a big radio hit in Canada Alternative charts and came in at #58 on the 91X top 91 of 2023 countdown, but it performed best on my chart where it went all the way to #1. Lead singer Charlie Kerr delivers the vocals with a sort of attitude that reminding me a lot of Matt Healy's delivery of "Love Me'. The whole song rides on a The 1975 vibe which made it a perfect candidate for my top songs of the year. Getting on with #6. This one comes from Chez Kane. Former member of the Rock band Kane'd. They were fronted by three sisters Steph, Stacey & Cheryl "Chez" Kane. They came in riding that gruff Biker Metal style, also known as Hair Metal. In 2021 she went solo and joined up with Frontiers Records label and she has been constant on my charts ever since. Her first single "Too Late For Love" went to #1 on my charts and ended up in 2021's top 6 of the year. Two years later she returns to that same slot with the big Power ballad off her second album Powerzone. Her style has been compared to Vixen, Lita Ford and 80's Heart. We are up at the top 10 halfway point and it is the iconic Pop songstress Demi Lovato. This was another #1 for her on my chart. It was a promotional single from 2023's Scream VI, and frankly the only good thing to come out of that installment to the franchise . "Still Alive" spent 28 weeks on my chart . Two of those with the crown. Demi has scored seven #1's on my chart dating as far back as her Pop ballad "Don't Forget". The big one however was "Neon Lights" spending 10+ weeks at the #1 position. The song "Still Alive" takes us back to her early days of Powerpop just a bit more loud and aggressive. She has an incredible vocal range. Her vocal highs have been compared to Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey ,and Steve Perry. Damn... Steve Perry. That is some serious vocal range. That vocals range is what takes her to the top of my charts again and again. At #4 we revisit the RetoWave sophistipop band that scored My #1 song from 2016. The Freeweights are from Sweden and took my chart by storm with the now classic "Livin' In A Studio". They are one of the first bands that put RetroWave on the map. Not only with their style which usually includes a saxophone solo, also Toni Liikanen vocals have that perfect tones for 80's retro music. They have hit my charts in six different occasions. Tonight we commence with my top 3 songs of 2023. For song #3 we revisit with Netherland's, Heavy Metal outfit, Cobra Spell. You recall them from my 2022 YE list ending up at #3 with "Addictied To The Night". Well they are back at their same exact slot only in 2023 the band went through a major lineup haul. Gone were Esmée van Sinderen : Guitars, Léonard Cakolli : Drums (2020-2022), and the awesome vocals of Alexx Panza : Vocals (2019-2022) who was one of the main reasons their album spawned three hits on my charts. This left only two original members Angelina Vehera : Bass, who left about the time this song was my #1 song, and founding member Sonia Anubis : Lead Guitars. Now and all female band Cobra Spell released the single "Flaming Heart". The style of the song is pure 80's Glam Metal in the style of Lita Ford. The production is so good it could have easily been a top 10 smash on the Pop charts in 1987. This was a monster song on my charts spending 7 weeks at #1. Tonight we reveal #2. It comes from a two time charting KPOP female group. Yes a KPOP all female group beat out an all Female Heavy Metal band for my 2023 year. the group in question is woo! ah!. At the moment they are another group who's new promotion label has changed their name. They now go by WOOAH, but for our #2 song they were woo! ah! The song is "Rollercoaster". The song rides on an up tempo, Citypop vibe laced with 80's Hi-NRG percussion beats in the chorus. perfect to showcase the harmonious vocals of the ladies. It is fast ,and NRGetic ,and keeps the listener on their toes from start to finish. The song only spent two weeks at the #1 position, but spent thirty-seven weeks on the chart. Seventeen of those in the my top 10. It also goes down in history as one of my favorite KPop songs ever. One of those perfect songs to kick off your day in the right direction. As promised my #1 song of 2023 will be revealed tonight. First I would like to think all those who followed along. Everyone at the old Rock and Metal forums, those from the old Italo and Eurobeat forums, The music lovers at PULSE ,and everyone else who just happened to come across the link tough google and what not. I still choose to chart more than 85% untapped music ,and only about a small percentage of my chart is actually made up from the official Alt and Rock charts. As for Pop and CHR, well let's just say thank goodness there is KPOP to satisfy my Pop cravings. Hopefully I was able to make new fans for newer music acts like Chez Kane, Midnite City, Hotel Mire, as well as iconic favs like Demi Lovato, MisterWives, and Winger. Now on with the unveiling.
My #1 song of 2023 comes from Steel Panther. They are a band I have charted before. They are mainly known as a Hair Metal parody band. Other names they have gone by are Metal Shop (2000–2003), Danger Kitty (2003) and ,Metal Skool (2003–2008). They have always been very popular online, and totally insane live. Their style is pure 80's Hair Metal for the anthems and Glam Metal for the Powerballads, with the ear catchy melodies, and big arena style guitars, laced with lyrics that are mostly humorous and profane. All in good fun of course. 2023's 'On The Prowl' was the first time they toned down the goofiness a bit. and it paid off. Especially with the big hit "1987". This song hits home for all of us who were lucky enough to live the 80's during their most party rock era. In the song the band touches on the most iconic Metal bands of the time ranging from Dokken to Van Halen and every other Spandex Wearing, Aqua Net abusing, Screaming banshee in between. The song also compares the state of rock music from the classic days to todays internet, social media times. There is even a great line that states "and the kids these days will never understand, what it's like to play instrument, and be uin a band". There is also a little fun poked at their party way of life in some of the lyrics, and it works like a charm. The song spent 35 weeks on my chart with 10 strong weeks at the top of the heap ,and pretty much runs away with the crown.
