Yeah Calm Down is beating the record yeah! Songs 36-40 are all on the way out before ‘Calm Down’ by Rema featuring Selena Gomez. Unless AT40 pulls a recent ‘What it is’ by Doechi that fell off the countdown from number 31 it should break the record a total of 73 weeks.

Judging from Mediabase, "Lovin' On Me" should return to #1 in the next week or two, making it the fourth song in the last four years to drop from and return to #1 twice in the same chart run, after "Circles", "Blinding Lights", and "Cruel Summer". The only song before 2020 to do that on AT40 was "Le Freak" in the late 1970s.

Question: What are the reasons for this song's chart longevity? I often think of using Santana/Rob Thomas' "Smooth" as an analogy - certainly one could compare Selena Gomez with Rob Thomas in that context. But Rema... sorry, but I'm not thinking "Carlos Santana" here.

"Is It Over Now?" is probably the third song to play on radio, lose airplay at some point, and still make it to the top on AT40. I think the others to do that were "Barbie World", "abcdefu", and "you broke me first".

As noted, Taylor Swift now has 14 number one songs. The only solo woman with more is Madonna.

Ryan mentioned that Madonna has the most #1 songs out of any female artist, but in reality, she has 10. Of course, Ryan continues to disrespect the legacy of AT40, by not using the Billboard Top 40. These are the 10:
Like a Virgin, Crazy For You, Live to Tell, Papa Don't Preach, Open Your Heart, Who's That Girl, Like a Prayer, Vogue, Justify My Love and Take a Bow.
Also, here's some trivia for y'all. There are four artists on this week's chart that appeared on the 1/30/10 countdown, which was the week Shinedown peaked at #23 with If You Only Knew. Go ahead and guess who they are!

I'm guessing "This Used To Be My Playground", "Deeper And Deeper" and "I'll Remember" didn't go to #1 on AT40, although they each hit #1 CHR (for which I use as a point of reference 11/30/1991 and later).

The current AT40 goes by R&R when citing historical data. By that metric, Madonna does have 15 number ones. One more than Taylor has now: Like A Virgin - 1 (3) - 1984 Material Girl - 1 (1) - 1985 Crazy For You - 1 (2) - 1985 Live To Tell - 1 (3) - 1986 Papa Don’t Preach - 1 (2) - 1986 Open Your Heart - 1 (2) - 1987 Who’s That Girl - 1 (2) - 1987 Like A Prayer - 1 (3) - 1989 Cherish - 1 (1) - 1989 Vogue - 1 (4) - 1990 Justify My Love - 1 (1) - 1990 This Used To Be My Playground - 1 (4) - 1992 Deeper And Deeper - 1 (1) - 1993 I’ll Remember - 1 (4) - 1994 Take A Bow - 1 (5) - 1995

And what chart would "Take A Bow" fall under? There was no AT40 from February 1995 through most of March 1998.

That of course hit #1 in both R&R and the Billboard airplay chart, as well as the Billboard Hot 100. What the above poster seems to want is for chart stats to be cited in a way similar to the "Real American Top 40" wiki, which lists each AT40 chart ever (Casey, Shadoe, Ryan, and guest hosts). For the three year period in the 1990s when there was no AT40, the Casey's Top 40 charts, using Radio & Records, are listed. Radio & Records has of course been the default source for chart data on AT40 since it was revived in March 1998 (26 years ago this week), and was used by Casey's Top 40 for nine years before that (and also by Rick Dees for many years). Ryan typically cites what he actually counted down for the 20 years he's hosted it, but uses R&R for 1973-2003, and presumably Billboard for earlier data.

So that means in reality at40 wise Ryan Seacrest is wrong about actual number 1’s title by Madonna then because according to all charts for AT40 she actually has 10. So Taylor Swift has actually had the record for awhile then.

There are still 4 songs in the top 10 that has been there since the original top 10 of the year. It’s impressive that it’s almost April. ‘Paint the Town Red’ by Doja Cat will actually gain a spot or two soon since because of the free fall of ‘Is it over now?’ by Taylor Swift, which is another one of the four remaining original top 10’s of 2024.
