Carrie Underwood looks like she's wasting away. I wonder if she's feeling pressure to lose weight

No-Host Billboards Are Much O-Bliged by Natalie Finn Los Angeles (E! Online) - On an evening when no one officially presided over the Billboard Music Awards, Mary J. Blige was crowned queen of the night.
The Breakthrough songstress scored a leading nine trophies Monday, including R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, R&B/Hip-Hop Album of the Year and R&B/Hip-Hop Song of the Year for the smash hit single "Be Without You."
"I've realized if I don't [love] myself, nobody will," the 35-year-old singer told reporters after the ceremony at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena. "Nobody is going to love me more than I do."
Plenty of people love her, nevertheless. Blige actually bagged four of her awards based on the success of "Be Without You" alone. Because the Billboard Awards recognizes the year's top chart performers (and there are oh-so many charts), it's not only easy to predict the winners, but each song, album and artist is eligible for an array of categories, as well.
The Breakthrough, for instance, has moved more than 2.6 million copies to date and "Be Without You" sat atop the R&B singles chart for a record 15 consecutive weeks. Hence, many awards that may sound the same (i.e. R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year and R&B Album Artist of the Year) but are actually different.
A midriff-bearing-yet-turtleneck-wearing Janet Jackson kicked off the two-hour televised portion of the evening with a performance that combined her '80s-era hit "The Pleasure Principle" with "So Excited," a single from her latest effort, 20 Y.O.
Then, perhaps taking a dig at the night's no-show hostesses ( Paris Hilton pulled out three days ago, Britney Spears last week), an announcer intoned, "Here's someone whose personal business has been exposed throughout the world."
And just when you thought Spears was going to appear after all, Kid Rock walked out to get the award presentations rolling. (Later on, that same witty announcer said that a special performance by Kevin Federline was coming up next, and then producers cut to a clip from one of those '60s-era sci-fi films—you know, the one where everyone runs out of the theater screaming).
Rounding out Blige's royal court with five honors apiece were King purveyor T.I., who swept all four rap categories and was named Video Clips Artist of the Year, and New Country Artist of the Year Carrie Underwood, whose debut effort, Some Hearts, also won Album of the Year.
(Whether or not she did it because she was in close proximity to presenter Paula Abdul, Underwood did not forget to thank American Idol for putting her on the road to Billboard success.)
Seventeen-year-old Chris Brown continued to have a good 2006, capping off his breakthrough year with three wins, including New Artist of the Year and the evening's top prize, Artist of the Year.
Not in need of an "S.O.S." tonight were three-time winner Rihanna, who was named Female Artist of the Year, and "How to Save a Life" band The Fray, whose Grey's Anatomy airplay helped them sweep all three awards recognizing digital sales performance.
"I really can't feel my legs, this is phenomenal," Rihanna said.
Nickelback also tripled their pleasure, bagging Duo/Group of the Year, Hot 100 Artists Duo/Group of the Year and Rock Album of the Year honors for All the Right Reasons.
Tony Bennett, who at 80 had the best chart performance of his career this year with his star-studded Duets: An American Classic album, was presented with the 2006 Century Award by fellow music icon Stevie Wonder.
"I've been doing this for 50—well, I guess it's 60 years now," the "Rags to Riches" crooner said. "The way you've treated me tonight, I want to sing for another 60 years."
Duets vocalist Celine Dion had been scheduled to perform and do the honors for Bennett, but she had to cancel last week due to illness—not because she objected to the jokes in the show's script.
To make up for the lack of Hilton, presenter Chris Kattan deadpanned "that's hot" at least four times while handing out his award.
The night's other performers included Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Blige, Ludacris (who teamed up with Pharrell Williams and Young Jeezy) and the impromptu trio of Nickelback, Kid Rock (a last-minute add) and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, who rocked out to "Looking for Some Touch."
Meanwhile, though the Killers were on hand to present the final award of the evening, Artist of the Year, along with Courtney Love, they backed out of performing because frontman Brandon Flowers was ill.

Yes, Carrie was REALLY interested in Kid Rock! One of the funniest parts of the show was when everyone was jamming to "Bawitdaba" as Kid Rock was entering the stage, then a cut to Carrie Underwood and Jesse McCartney sitting around looking bored. That was my favorite part of the show. Congrats to all the winners. GO MARY!!!

Apparently the show had really stinky ratings last night, though I can't say I'm surprised. IMO it was pretty boring...I only watched 'til Gwen performed and couldn't bear the rest.
No-show no-go: Billboard awards sink
Music special falls 16 percent, to a 2.7 in 18-49s
By Toni Fitzgerald Dec 5, 2006
New buddies Britney Spears and Paris Hilton have made quite the splash in the online tabloids of late, with graphic pictures of the two partying driving up traffic to online celebrity gossip sites.
So Fox probably could have expected a bump in ratings when the two reportedly committed to host last night’s “Billboard Music Awards.” But both pulled out at the last moment, and without them ratings for the annual event dipped 16 percent from last year.
“Billboard” averaged a 2.7 adults 18-49 rating last night, according to Nielsen overnights, down from last year’s 3.2 overnight rating. The event aired live, and Nielsen fast nationals measure timeslot performance, not actual program data, so there may be some adjustment when final ratings are released later today.
This year the show moved from Tuesday, where its toughest competition was ABC’s “Charlie Brown Christmas,” to Monday, where it faced NBC’s dynamic duo of “Deal or No Deal” and “Heroes.” That, along with Paris and Brit’s bailout, likely hurt ratings for the show.
Spears pulled out first, and Hilton, who reportedly didn’t want to crack jokes about some of her friends as written in the script, followed over the weekend. The show aired instead without a host.
Meanwhile, NBC finished first for the night among 18-49s with a 4.8 average rating and a 12 share. ABC was second at 3.3/8, CBS third at 2.9/7, Fox fourth at 2.7/7, Univision fifth at 1.6/4 and CW sixth at 0.8/2. NBC started the night in the lead with a 5.0 rating during the 8 p.m. hour for “Deal or No Deal.” ABC was second with a season-high 3.4 for “Wife Swap,” Fox third with a 2.7 for the first hour of the “Billboard Music Awards” and Univision fourth with a 2.2 for “La Fea Mas Bella.” That put CBS fifth with a 2.1 average for repeats of “How I Met Your Mother” (2.2) and “The Class” (2.0) and the CW sixth with a 0.8 average for repeats of “Everybody Hates Chris” (0.8) and “All Of Us” (0.8). At 9 p.m. NBC led again, this time with a 6.5 for “Heroes,” the night’s top-rated show among 18-49s. ABC remained second that hour with a 4.0 for the season premiere of “Supernanny,” up slightly from last year. CBS was third with a 3.1 average for repeats of “Two and a Half Men” (3.4) and “Old Christine” (2.8) and Fox fourth with a 2.7 for the second hour of the “Billboard Music Awards.” Univision dropped to fifth that hour with a 1.4 for “Mundo de Fieras” and CW remained sixth with a 0.8 average for repeats of “Girlfriends” (0.9) and “The Game” (0.8). CBS took the lead at 10 p.m. with a 3.7 rating for a repeat of “CSI: Miami,” followed by NBC with a 3.0 for a new “Studio 60.” ABC was third that hour with a 2.6 for “What About Brian” and Univision fourth with a 1.3 for “Cristina.” Among households, NBC led the night with an 8.0 average rating and a 12 share. CBS finished second at 6.3/10, ABC third at 5.6/9, Fox fourth at 4.0/6, Univision fifth at 2.2/3 and CW sixth at 1.5/2.

Carrie has been sick and what the heck the girl hasn't stopped since Idol started nearly 2 years ago. I imagine that she is healthy and eating well but just not able to put on any weight due to her hectic schedule. I'm sure she will put on some weight at the beginning of the year when she goes into the studio to start recording her sophmore album.

So? The award isn't for who sold more albums, or who did better on the Hot 100, but who did the best overall on both charts. I know but it just seemed like their album sales outweighed Rihanna's Hot 100 performance - especially with Mary's Be Without You.

I think the AOTF award is stupid...
It's obvious that country don't do well on the HOT 100 charts... that doesn't make, say, Carrie deserving of EVEN A FRICKING NOD, since she has the best selling album of the year and 3 #1 singles on the country chart (and did REALLY good for a country song, on the HOT 100)... it's not fair to leave country artists behind... she freaking deserved at least a nod... I know Chris Brown deserved it... I'm not against his win, I'm against the stupid rule... at least they couldn't rig the Best Album from her!!

These are totally based on actual chart performance.

Well Nelly won one award according to Billboard's site. If she won Hot 100 single, I would imagine they would have announced it on the show before she accepted her pop award.

You said you're against a stupid rule. What rule? ??? What rigging took place? In the big picture, country music isn't that popular. It may move more albums relative to other genres, but its music really only appeals to one radio format, and isnt a big single seller.

It seems like awards shows in general are just less popular now. All I see are articles after each one talking about how its dipped even more from the year before and all time lows in audience.

I didn't even realize the awards show was on last night. And besides, why watch any awards show, if you can BET on who will win, without even watching, and then realize how right you were, the morning after, when you read about it. Awards shows are nothing like they used to be. Too predictable, lack of talent, all-around. Nothing makes me really want to watch it. Same artists year and after year, same winners year after year, same show off all the ghetto-looking bling bling (tacky-looking crap) artists year after year. There isn't anything I, or anyone hasn't seen before

Yeah me too. The overall quality of the awards shows has gone down too. The performances this year were just not that great. And I feel they have been getting worse each year, especially on the Billboard awards. There are so many performances from past awards shows that really stick out because they were really good (Toni Braxton's 1996 performance, Jennifer Lopez's 1999 performance, etc). And I just haven't seen that with Billboard awards in years. And the show is just not that interesting anymore. With some of the awards shows, pageants, etc, they are not even airing them on television on the main networks because none of them want to carry them due to lack of interest, money, etc. Maybe the Billboard awards show won't be televised anymore on a network channel and then they'll show them on some other cable channel. Or it won't be televised at all and it would be one of those industry-only things. Since they do post the full list online and publish it in the magazine, it's so much easier to read the full list afterwards than sit through the horror that is the Billboard awards.

Yeah-I wonder if a few of the very small awards shows will eventually just cease to happen as they do now. I cannot imagine enough money/interest to make it worth it.

SO you are saying that this show will go the way of the Vh1 Vogue Fashion Awards? Basically. Yeah-I wonder if a few of the very small awards shows will eventually just cease to happen as they do now. I cannot imagine enough money/interest to make it worth it. Even some of these moderately-sized ones like Billboard may get phased out eventually. But they could hold a small ceremony and televise it. Like a 60 minute thing that just features all the essentials like artists/song/album of the year from the genres, and a few others. No performances, lame jokes, etc. I think the interest is really beginning to dwindle. Years ago, I was really interested in watch the Billboard awards, now it's just like, get it over with as fast as possible. I only watched a little bit yesterday to see some of the trainwreck performances we had discussed when the show was on live on the East Coast. After Gwen Stefani's performance, I was done. The awards leave very little to be desired, since those who follow the charts pretty regularly like many of the people here at Pulse and of course industry people, they can basically have an idea of who will most likely come out on top in the various categories. So watching the awards show is really not that much fun for those individuals.

Yeah, I think Billboard is too major to phase out completely.
We may or may not like the Awards now, but Im not sure that would extend to the general viewing public
