^I'm sure all the artist reading will get atleast one nom.... except Amy Lee, but I do think EV is in deadlines... so they could get something for CMWYS... most likely not though.

Chris Brown? That almost makes it seem like he is a shoe-in as a nominee for Best New Artist (But then again, remember that Natasha Bedingfield and Jason Mraz also announced them and got nothing lol) Haha, I hope that happens to him.

It won't happen to Chris Brown. I see him with at least 4 grammy nominations. BNA R&B Male Vocal Performance R&B Contemporary Album R&B Song He won the BET award for BNA this year so no way will he not atleast get ONE grammy nomination. Not to mention his #1 hot 100 hit and several top ten.

"Call Me When You're Sober" is eligible, the album isn't (it missed the deadline by a week). Do they have Rock vocal by a duo or group? I think it has an outside shot at that.

While we're at it, I might as well add this clarificatory article from Gold Derby: goldderby.latimes.com/awards_goldderby/2006/10/index.htmlYes, Carrie and Natasha qualify as Grammy new artists A few years ago it suddenly became really tough to predict Grammy nominees for best new artist because candidates were no longer limited to people who made their first professional recordings during the eligibility period. The category now encompassed artists who've been in the biz for years, but just recently emerged into prominence. Since Grammy's eligibility cut-off date of Sept. 30 just passed, it's time to start predicting nominees who'll be announced on Dec. 7. Our Grammy forum moderator David Schnelwar ("Guru"), however, was befuddled over whether certain artists can be considered for best new artist. So we submitted our list of questionables to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and got the answers. (Thanks, Ron Roecker!) Here's what he says about these artists: Natasha Bedingfield — entered and eligible Gnarls Barkley — not entered Pussycat Dolls — entered and eligible Rihanna — entered and eligible Snow Patrol — not entered Carrie Underwood — entered and eligible So Gnarls Barkley isn't qualified for the Grammy?? :o Go Carrie!!!

Dixie Chicks will score a bunch of Country noms and could probably get a nod for Best Album. It's about time they get recognized outside the Country categories as well...
Corine Bailey Rae (sp?) seems like a strong contender for Best New Artist.

^Yeah, but I Hope The Fray, pull a EV and suprise us all. I'm sorry, but I so thought BNA was 50 Cent (although, I'm estatic EV won)... it just seemed like 1+1=2... So I hope that for The Fray as BNA..
As for Carrie, a NOM ALONE in the BNA catagory is winning, since NONE of the AI'ers ever get noms in the top 5 MAJOR catagories. Although I don't see her winning BNA, I would super love for her to be nomitated.

It is very hard for an AI person to get into the general field. Five season's later and it has yet to be done, so, if Carrie is nominated there for BNA that's a win in itself. However, I think if they nominate her there, she will win. If she isn't nomimated then obvioulsy AI contestants although new with the freshmen effort aren't really seen as new to the grammy committee because with her stats that could be considered a BNA of the year.

Carrie Underwood will absolutely be nominated for BNA.

She definitely SHOULD be nominated there. But it can be tricky because the last few years they threw some people in the BNA category who receive absolutely ZERO nominations elsewhere, yet, a person who received three nominations got no BNA nomination. I just don't trust the grammy comittee with this one.

exactly. it's sort of hard, because their debut singles are released during a different eligibility year than their debut albums, so they came to prominence before the first album. their labels will obviously wait to submit them when they have a bit more of a body of work to send in (although I believe the genuises at RCA submitted Kelly in 2002, when her debut coronation single was out like 2 weeks before the deadline, making her ineligible for the subsequent year)
Although if Rihanna, someone who released a FULL ALBUM that had two hits before this year's period, is being bandied around as a possible nominee for BNA, they have NO reason not to nominate Carrie.

I SEE HIM WITH 3 NOMINATIONS BNA R&B CONTEMP. ALBUM R&B MALE VOCAL Yeah, I think they would nominate him for Run It or Yo (EMM) and I dont think he wrote those, so no R&B song, but I think he will also get Rap/Sung Collabo. with Run It

They COULD get nominated for R&B song, but Chris himself wouldn't get a Grammy if they won. I think "Gimme That" with Lil Wayne should be in rap/sung. love that song

Personally, I don't think Rihanna will not get a BNA, nomination. I doubt she'll get any Grammy Nominations, like with her debut. That is what's so weird about the list above as I think most of those they say are eligible are actually not eligible. Natasha Bedingfield, had an album out last year and received no grammy nominations and in a year that has many good new artist when last year was weaker, no way she'll make it in eligible or not. IF she's still on her freshmen cd then she probably is still eligible since she didn't receive any grammy nominations last year but I doubt she'll make it in this year. Gnarls Barkley — not entered Pussycat Dolls — entered and eligible, they probably are eligible. Rihanna — entered and eligible - She might be entered but she isn't eligible and she won't get a BNA nomination. I would be able to understand it more if she were still on her Freshmen effort as Maroon 5 got nominated and won BNA for an album that was over two years old but the difference is they didn't have a sophomore album out at the time. So no for Rihanna. Snow Patrol — not entered - don't know Carrie Underwood — entered and eligible - Again, this is confusing because they have Rhinna on this list who clearly isn't eligible who's been "entered and eligible". Carrie might not be eligible either since she won three billboard awards for best selling single last year, might make her ineligible for the BNA grammy nomination. If she's not nominated then we will know for SURE that they don't consider idol winners as "new", because of the huge success that they start out immediately with (in comparison to real "new artist" without a bulit in fanbase).

natasha's unwritten will be nominated for sure. that song was huge. best female pop vocal performance is a lock. ROTY/SOTY is a small possibility.

I think Mary J. will score a lot of nominations. "Be Without You" was a huge hit and I don't think the Grammy's will pass over it.

I doubt it. BWY is one of those songs that would have been fresh for a 2006 Awards Show, but in terms of 2007 is a little old, and with any awards ceremony, sometimes these songs tend to be "forgotten". She will probably get the R&B noms, but no major ones.

Record of the year should be competitive between, Rascal Flatts "What Hurts The Most" Corinne Bailey Rae "Put Your Records On" Gnarls Barkley "Crazy" Nelly Furtado "Promiscuous" Justin Timberlake "Sexyback" Carrie Underwood "Jesus, Take The Wheel" James Blunt "You're Beautiful" Daniel Powter "Bad Day" I think those are the ones I wanted to cover. What about Ain't No Other Man, Hips Dont Lie and Dani California?

Clearly you guys haven't been watching the Grammys very long. There's absolutely no rhyme or reason to their Best New Artist nominees. They nominate people who have previous albums and don't care. The most obvious example is Shelby Lynne. She won BNA in 2001 after having albums out for 10 years! She'd had 10 Top 40 country hits before that album!
Clearly they don't care and I wouldn't at all be surprised for Rihanan to show up in BNA this year.

I hate how 1 hit wonders get all this Grammy consideration (Gnarls Barkley, James Blunt). It's nauseating. I doubt either act ever has another "big" hit again. And if I see Daniel Powter in any category, that'll be a joke. Even if Gnarls Barkley never has another hit, that shouldn't preclude "Crazy" from getting major noms. It's one of the most popular and critically lauded songs of the year (making it a deserving Record nominee), and I also think it's one of the most lyrically interesting songs with a great melody (making it a worthy Song nominee). Now, you can make a case against them deserving a Best New Artist recognition based on one-hit wonder status, but that is different from Record and Song (this applies to Daniel Powter as well).
