Clearly you guys haven't been watching the Grammys very long. There's absolutely no rhyme or reason to their Best New Artist nominees. They nominate people who have previous albums and don't care. The most obvious example is Shelby Lynne. She won BNA in 2001 after having albums out for 10 years! She'd had 10 Top 40 country hits before that album! Clearly they don't care and I wouldn't at all be surprised for Rihanan to show up in BNA this year. There are two stipulations to BNA eligibility: 1. An act can't have a previous nomination/win as that act 2. The act must have established their fame/notoriety in that eligbility period. The first stipulation is what allowed Lauryn Hill to win Best New Artist (she had never been nominated as Lauryn Hill, just as part of the Fugees) and made Beyonce ineligible (she had been nominated as a solo act in her co-writing of "Say My Name"). The second stipulation is what allowed Shelby Lynne to get nominated and win because she was never really famous before the year she won.

Record of the year should be competitive between, Rascal Flatts "What Hurts The Most" Corinne Bailey Rae "Put Your Records On" Gnarls Barkley "Crazy" Nelly Furtado "Promiscuous" Justin Timberlake "Sexyback" Carrie Underwood "Jesus, Take The Wheel" James Blunt "You're Beautiful" Daniel Powter "Bad Day" I think those are the ones I wanted to cover. What about Ain't No Other Man, Hips Dont Lie and Dani California? hips will probably make it for ROTY, but ANOM def. wont make it. ANOM wasnt big enough.

ROTY doesn't have to be a hit... didn't Ray Charles & Norah Jones win that one with their duet?

Ray Charles had passed away, though, so that was the reason for that.
Still, Norah's "Don't Know Why" wasn't a hit and got a ROTY nomination. That's why some think Corinne can get in as she has a similar vibe.

Ballots were already due, so Gerald's death wouldn't impact nominations.

I'd love to see Brooke get nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collabo but I know it won't happen.
I want to see Carrie nominated for BNA because she truly deserves. I'm not hating on Kelly Clarkson (actually I am a huge fan), but her year she shouldn't even have been entered. AMLT was drivel and cheesy and the grammy people saw past that. Now maybe the year Miss Independent/Low/Trouble With Love Is hit big then yes.
The Dixie Chicks deserve all the country categories and Album of the Year and Song of the year. These ladies came back from so much scrutiny and rose to become a huge seller once again proving they are a musical staple and their album is just a stellar product.
Its a longshot, but how about for Best Dance
-Miracle by Cascada -And Then We Kiss by Britney Spears -And She Said by Lucas Prata -Sorry by Madonna -SexyBack by J.T.
I'd love to see Britney entered but its probably a long shot.
And if Fergie gets nominated for Best Rap I will DIE!
