COMMENTS
Tough week for movement close to the top. No new songs in the Top 5, and only one in the Top 10. The Killers get their 2nd week at #1 with "Mr. Brightside", with Simple Plan holding firm on the runner-up spot with their former #1. With my least favorite day of the year approaching (V Day), both of these songs stand a good chance at claiming #1 next week.
Rob Thomas is back on my chart after a 1-year absence, but this time he's solo. Very impressive debut at #17 for him, especially seeing as songs usually don't debut above #20. SheDaisy would also be considered a 'good' debut for my chart, but they just so happened to debut the wrong week (and I didn't feel like holding back another week just so they could claim 'highest debut' status).
It looks like Lonestar's "Mr. Mom" may finally be leaving the chart after nearly 30 weeks on. Very rarely (but not never) does a song surpass half a year on my chart. Rascal Flatts made it to 29 with "Feels Like Today", Toby Keith made it to 40 with "Whiskey Girl", and Five For Fighting made it to a whopping 54 weeks with "100 Years".
Next week may be dry on debuts, and any real chart action for that matter. Anything could happen, however, so I'll do what I can to keep an open mind. Have a good week everybody!

Country Connection Top 20 Week February 7th - February 8th 2005TW - LW - Weeks On Chart - "Title", Artist - Peak Position 1 1 2 Don't!, Shania Twain 1 [2 weeks at #1]2 2 2 My Give A Damn's Busted, Jo De Messina 2 3 4 2 Nothin' To Lose, Josh Gracin 3 4 6 2 I May Hate Myself In The Morning, Lee Ann Womack 4 5 5 2 Don't Worry 'Bout A Thing, SheDAISY 5 6 3 2 When I Think About Cheating, Gretchen Wilson 3 7 9 2 Nothin' 'Bout Love Makes Sense, LeAnn Rimes 7 8 8 2 He Gets That From Me, Reba McEntire 8 9 17 2 I Think The World Needs A Drink, Terri Clark 9 10 7 2 Mud On The Tires, Brad Paisley 7 11 10 2 Restless, Alison Krauss and Union Station 10 12 14 2 Tryin' To Find Atlantis, Jamie O'Neal 12 13 12 2 Baby Girl, Sugarland 12 14 18 2 God's Will, Martina McBride 14 15 11 2 Mockingbird, Toby Keith 11 16 13 2 Songs About Me, Trace Adkins 13 17 -- 1 It's Getting Better All The Time, Brooks and Dunn 1718 20 2 You're My Better Half, Keith Urban 18 19 15 2 Holy Water, Big and Rich 15 20 19 2 Monday Morning Church, Alan Jackson 29 Bubbling UnderTW LW "Title", Artist Peak Position 1 -- Goodbye Time, Blake Shelton 1 2 -- Homewrecker, Gretchen Wilson 2 3 -- Honky Tonk U, Toby Keith 3 4 -- Drugs or Jesus, Tim McGraw 4 5 -- Big Time, Big and Rich 5 News of Note: Shania Twain holds at #1 for a second week in a row with "Don't!". A lot of shuffling on the chart this week, as Lee Ann Womack ("I May Hate Myself in the Morning") into the Top 5, Gretchen Wilson ("When I Think About Cheating") tumbles out of the Top 3, and Terri Clark ("The World Needs A Drink") propels 6 spots into the Top 10. Toby Keith's "Mockingbird" is the biggest loser and Twain's "Party For Two" goes recurrent. The greatest gainer this week is Clark with "The World Needs A Drink". There was only one debut, Brooks and Dunn's "It's Getting Better All The Time" from their Greatest Hits Vol. 2. Expect a big jump from Womack as her new album comes out this week and a debut by Blake Shelton. The song must be an official radio or video release, unless the artist is between albums and doesn't have a current single. When a song goes recurrent or drops out of the Top 40 on Billboard, it will drop off of this chart. The song doesn't have to be within the Top 40 however to debut on the chart. There also is no fixed debut position: songs can debut anywhere on the chart. Gold backgrounds indicate a bullet. Debuting songs appear in green.

Luke Sounds Weekly Top Twenty
this.last.title.artist.
01. 03. SOMEWHERE ONLY WE KNOW - KEANE [1X1] 02. 01. Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day [1x16] 03. 04. It's Like That - Mariah Carey 04. 02. Work - Jimmy Eat World [2x5] 05. 07. Holiday - Green Day 06. 05. Mr. Brightside - The Killers 07. 08. Smile Like You Mean It - The Killers 08. 06. Drop It Like It's Hot - Snoop Dogg 09. 10. Rich Girl - Gwen Stefani 10. 13. What Happens Tomorrow? - Duran Duran 11. 19. Lonely No More - Rob Thomas 12. 09. I Believe In You - Kylie Minogue [2x1] 13. 16. Galvanize - The Chemial Brothers 14. 12. Vertigo - U2 [2X1] 15. 15. Party For Two - Shania Twain [2x11] 16. 17. Collide - Howie Day 17. 18. We Will Become Sillhouettes - The Postal Service 18. 11. All Because of You - U2 19. 00. E-Pro - Beck 20. 20. N Dey Say - Nelly
So I finally retired Green Day from the #1 spot. It was a tough decision to make, and although the song already had a ridiculous number of weeks at the top, I still love it every bit as much as I did the first time I heard it. However, I'm also obsessed with Keane right now. And then of course there's Rob Thomas zooming up the chart, and slow movers like the The Killers with "Smile" and Green Day again with "Holiday" that could very well have a shot too. The battle will be interesting.

The Killers finally win my #1 battle and get their first week there. The next few weeks will be interesting because The Killers, Jet, Keane, Jem, and Butterfly could all potentially get #1. Beyond that, Rob makes a huge debut, but with other solid songs, I dont know if he will fly to #1.

So I finally retired Green Day from the #1 spot. It was a tough decision to make, and although the song already had a ridiculous number of weeks at the top, I still love it every bit as much as I did the first time I heard it. However, I'm also obsessed with Keane right now. I totally hear you Luke. "BOBD" didn't quite spend 16 weeks at #1 on my chart, but with 8 weeks at the top its still one of my biggest ever #1 singles. It could still be at #1 right now to be honest, because like you it still sounds as fresh to me as the first time I heard it. But basically, I love "Mr. Brightside" a lot right now too and this song would've already hit #1 weeks ago had if it been waiting on almost any other song. "Holiday," "Lonely No More," and "Smile Like You Mean It" (assuming they don't change the third single again) are all likely future #1's on my chart too. I definitely don't have a shortage of #1 songs this year. However, I changed my chart around like 4 times already since making it earlier today because the entire middle part of my chart is soooo empty that songs are peaking much higher than they should and old songs are falling much slower than they should.

MikeK102's Top 20 For February 12th TW LW Artist "Song" 20 -- Keane "Somewhere Only We Know" 19 -- The Killers "Mr. Brightside" 18 -- Jimmy Eat World "Work" 17 19 Tyler Hilton "When it Comes" 16 20 Jennifer Lopez "Get Right" 15 10 Switchfoot "Dare You to Move" 14 15 Mario "Let Me Love You" 13 09 Sarah McLachlan "World on Fire" 12 16 Gwen Stefani Featuring Eve "Rich Girl" 11 13 Maroon 5 "Sunday Morning" 10 12 Kelly Clarkson "Since U Been Gone" 09 11 Muse "Hysteria" 08 08 U2 "Vertigo" 07 07 Alicia Keys "Karma" 06 06 Ciara Featuring Missy Elliott "1, 2 Step" 05 04 Gavin DeGraw "I Don't Want to Be" 04 02 Jesse McCartney "Beautiful Soul" 03 05 Frankie J Featuring Baby Bash "Obsession (No Es Amor)" 02 01 Avril Lavigne "Nobody's Home" 01 03 Green Day "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" AN OVERABUNDANCE OF BULLETS: In case you didn't notice, only two songs on my chart lack a bullet this week - and both of them will probably fall off next week. That's not good news for me, for it will soon make for a very slow-moving chart. :( The ones most likely to lose their bullets next are Mario and U2, and then Gavin, Jesse, and Avril after them. So relief will be in sight...it's just not noticeable yet.

Falling Off: -- 39 Goo Goo Dolls - Give A Little Bit 2 39 -- 37 Snow Patrol - Run 22 1(3) -- 34 Blink-182 - Always 11 18I haven't done a commentary in a while, so I'm gonna split it into two parts: The Killers and Everything but The Killers. I really don't see an end in sight for "Mr. Brightside"'s run at the top. "Evil" and "Home" could be threats, but right now the song is golden to me. It'd be at ten weeks if it didn't sacrifice two weeks for U2 and Green Day, but instead it's settling for eight. "Smile Like You Mean It" isn't quite stalling, I just haven't heard it as much as I should, and other stuff that I'm liking has a bit more life left. I hope that's not the end for it, but it should be fine eventually. "Somebody Told Me" is the first song on my chart to seriously challenge "Hanging By A Moment" for the longevity crown. I never thought I'd see it broken, but it could happen. I'm just afraid of favoring it too much to help it get the record. But it did fall a little more than I would've liked this week, but we'll see how it goes. Now for everybody else. Unlike everyone else on the boards, I actually regret giving Green Day a week at #1. Don't get me wrong, the song is great, but it just doesn't seem like a destined #1 to me, unlike "American Idiot". I would've been fine if it peaked at #2 while U2 or The Killers got its week, but it doesn't really matter now. It is going to suffer a bit of a fast fall while radio plays it ad nauseum, which I really isn't too fair. It also doesn't help that I think "Holiday" is better and sucking up "BOBD"'s flame. "Home" surpasses "Just Like You"'s peak and ties "IHEAY", which is amazing because I never thought that'd happen. But I'm really digging it. "Nobody's Home" is done despite the top 5 peak, Avril's first since "Complicated". I've finally shed that post-"Complicated" haze that kinda held back her last two singles. To be honest, "My Happy Ending" should've did better than "NH" but oh well. And "Hysteria" is finally getting the momentum it deserves. I guess I've had it with "Cold". It really should be a top 10 single, but just couldn't get enough traction to make it that far. Plus it seems to be getting a little stale, especially with the fresh "So Far Away" making strides. KNDD seems to be getting serious with "I'm Not Okay" causing it to rebound. "I Predict A Riot", "I Just Wanna Live" and "Sunday Morning" are songs that be higher than they are, although the latter isn't getting the airplay here to justify it. With only sparse MTV2 airplay fueling them "All That I've Got" and "Save Me" are essentially walking on lava until either I hear it more often, or they fall in. The same pretty much goes for TBS and Sum 41. I actually owe Taking Back Sunday for royally screwing "A Decade Under The Influence", which only got 8 weeks on with a miraculous #20 peak, thanks to me irrationally not liking it for about two months. After two minor hits from their last album, that should've been their big hit on my chart and I slept on it. "TPIP" isn't going to make up for it, but I know I will by getting their latest album. "Let Me Go" should do decently however. I have yet to dislike a 3 Doors Down single, so hopefully they don't disappoint with this album. And now I'm spent.

With only sparse MTV2 airplay fueling them "All That I've Got" and "Save Me" are essentially walking on lava until either I hear it more often, or they fall in. Obviously you don't somehow catch their Rock countdown every morning (or later in the day), where the Used basically have a lock on 10, 9 or 8, and UL have a lock on 5, 4 or 3. God, I'm almost scared of burning out on "All That I've Got," because, and only because, of MTV2. LW TW artist "title" [peak(weeks at peak) weeks on chart, t=total] 01 01 Green Day "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" [1(3) 17w] 03 02 The Used "All That I've Got" [2(1) 11w] 02 03 My Chemical Romance "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" [1(5t) 27w] 04 04 Atreyu "Right Side of the Bed" [1(10t) 29w] 05 05 Atreyu "Blood Children (an introduction)/Bleeding Mascara" [2(1) 28w] 07 06 Good Charlotte "I Just Wanna Live" [6(1) 11w] 08 07 Muse "Hysteria" [7(1) 6w] 09 08 Sum 41 "Pieces" [8(1) 3w] 10 09 The Killers "Mr. Brightside" [9(1) 9w] ANCHOR1 06 10 Atreyu "Lip Gloss and Black" [1(4t) 33w] ROCKET 16 11 Jimmy Eat World "Work" [11(1) 3w] 12 12 Good Charlotte "S.O.S." The Top 11 is particularly tight right now, so Atreyu's plunge is not as drastic as it looks. "Helena" and "Holiday" are rebounding due to picking up steam as [anticipated] next singles. "Passive" blasts onto the chart this week as predicted, but I wasn't expecting "Tower of Snakes" to do about the same, since "I Let Go" is the brand new single. However, HBB does keep playing the "ToS" video, while "I Let Go"'s impact, like "Right Side of the Bed"'s, has yet to be felt. And while I see it once or twice a day (and now think she's quite fetching), Kelly Clarkson isn't due to hit the actual Top 40 anytime soon.
