In "Why Can't I?" when Liz says "inevitable," at first I thought she was saying something about having a ball.

I was scanning the lyric sheet from Supertramp's "Breakfast In America" CD and was looking at the song "Just Another Nervous Wreck", which got moderate airplay on AOR stations, as a result of being the flipside of "The Logical Song". One of the lyrics was "...and the sun upon my wall is getting less". I always thought they were singing "...and the sun upon my wall is getting red". Also, in the chorus of title track, many people think they're singing, "Take a jumbo, cross the water, Breakfast In America", when it's actually, "...like to see America".

What about the first few lines of the song "This Is It"? No, not Kenny Loggins' 1980 smash, but that one that opened the Bugs Bunny show. Bugs and Daffy (I believe) came out singing, "Overture, curtain lights, this is it, the night o' nights" Back when I was about five or six years old, I always thought they were singing, "(unintelligible), turn the lights, this is it, light the lights"

For the longest time I thought a set of lyrics in one of my favourite songs of the 80's, "Careless Whisper" by Wham, said "guilty feelings, got no rhythm". In reality, the lyrics are "guilty feet have got no rhythm". LOL
One of our radio stations broadcast the following misheard lyrics yesterday: From Melissa Etheridge's "I Want To Come Over" - "to hell with the cast of 'Friends'" - should be - "to hell with the consequence"...

LMAO! And Chris, thanks for the memories... I used to love "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show" when it was on CBS Saturday mornings back in the late '70s (that was before they started editing all the cartoon violence out, like Daffy Duck getting his face blown off, etc.).

This is embarassing for me, but in a few parts on Nelly Furtado's "Explode", this is what I thought she said, and what she actually said:
> What I thought:
-Lera's face burnt of the memory of bedroom fun/Lighter side of hair spray/
What she said:
-Vera's face burnt of the memory of bedroom fun/With a lighter and some hairspray/
What I thought:
-Got a shine now and its more than a butterscotch/more than a butterscotch/
What she said:
-Got a shiner now and its more than a battle scar/More than a battle scar.

I was listening to Dan Fogelberg's Greatest Hits CD from 1982 at work today and, on the first song, "Part Of The Plan", I finally figured out what he was saying at the end of the chorus. The lyrics were "One day we'll all understand". There were several variations of lyrics I thought he was singing:
One day, we'll own a Nerf stand One day, we bought a Nerf stand One day, it was a Nerf stand
Because he emphasizes the second syllable in the word "understand" when it's actually that syllable that should have the LEAST emphasis.

I thought American Hi-Fi's "Flavor of the Week" chorus said "too stoned, Nintendo.." when much later I found out it really was "too stoned, to know.."

You know what, I relied on what a friend of mine said a while ago, but I just looked up the lyrics, and three different sites said Nintendo. So I guess that's what it is.

At least two songs come to mind.
Prodigy--Smack My Bitch Up I thought I heard Snap my picture, but I eventually realized it was Smack my bitch up.
George Clinton--Do Fries Go With That Shake When I first heard this song (way back in '86), I thought I heard Do flies want that shake?

For awhile, I thought that, in the song "Magical Mystery Tour", that the Beatles were singing, "Roll open the mystery door" instead of "Roll up for the mystery tour".

I just posted a topic in the "Nostalgia" forum on Hall & Oates' top ten hit from the Spring, 1982 "Did It In A Minute". When that song was out, it sounded to me like they were singing "You did it in mid-air". Since I wasn't following the charts yet in 1982, I always assumed that's what they were saying and it wasn't until I looked at WNDU's Top 93 of 1982, which they counted down on New Year's Eve and I remembered hearing that song on it. I wasn't familiar with that title of a Hall & Oates song, but I finally put two and two together and realized that all that time, I'd heard the lyrics incorrectly. The same went for "You Should Hear How She Talks About You" by Melissa Manchester - I thought she was singing something like "You Should Hear 'Bout the doctor, doctor..." which I know makes no sense, but remember, back in 1982 I was a naive ten-year old with several emotional problems. Getting song lyrics right was way down on the priority list.

I just checked the lyrics of "I'll Be There For You" by the Rembrandts and in the second verse, I found two lyrics I misheard.
The first one, the real lyrics are: "You're still in bed at ten, and work began at eight"
I thought they were singing, "You're still in bed at ten, and work again at eight" (since I had an evening job at the time, that explains why I thought those were the lyrics).
The next line is: "You've burned your breakfast..."
I thought it was: "You've earned your breakfast..."
Since they were saying, "Your job's a joke, you're broke" earlier in the song, I thought that was their way of saying how your job earns you very little money.
Of course, some lyric sites have both lyrics that I misunderstood, but a great majority have the other ones, so I assume those are correct.

My friend thought Dido was saying "I will go down with this s**t* It does sound like s**t actually! A similar thing happened when I was listening to Tanya Tucker's 1991 hit "Down To My Last Teardrop". In one of the verses, the lyrics are "I've been rearranging chairs on a ship that's goin' down". At first, I thought she had said, "All the shit that's goin' down" The next time, however, I listened to the lyrics more closely and realized what the real lyrics were.

A few others:
"Wind Of Change" by the Scorpions
The actual lyrics are "Followed the Moskva" I thought it was "Followed the ammo squad"
Two in "Abacab" by Genesis
When they sang the title, it sounded like they were saying "I don't care"
"There's a hole in the somewhere" sounded to me like "...hole in the subway" (I was really into playing the Atari game "Superman" when I heard this song all the time. The game has many Subways)

Two more songs I thought of:
Starship - "Sara" Correct lyrics: Move on, it's no good to go back in time Misheard lyrics: Ooh boy, it's so good to go back in time (At the time, I was obsessed with the movie "Back To The Future", which was still playing in the theater in LaPorte)
Raydio "Jack & Jill" Correct lyrics: He got down on his right knee Misheard lyrics: He got down on his Granny

That new song, "Another White Dash" --I kept hearing, "She never wiped out"....
The Police "Roxanne"...it sounds like he sings, "Are you gay or with another boy" ---correct lyrics: "I won't share you with another boy".
