I was scanning the charts, and Outkast's Hey Ya is incredibly getting played on CHR/pop, Urban, CHR/Rythmic, Alternative, Active Rock, Rock, Hot AC, Modern AC. This has got to be one of the biggest hits of the last ten years.
what other songs in the last ten years have had play across multiple formats, and in your opinion what were the biggest songs?

Well let's see how long it lasts first before we call it one of the biggest hits in the last 10 years. I know alot of people that used to like Hey Ya that are already sick of it.
I would have to say that
One Sweet Day Macarena Un-Break My Heart I'm Real Fallin All For You Crazy In Love Krytonite Everything You Want Music Lady Marmalade Baby One More Time Livin' La Vida Loca My Heart Will Go On Truly Madly Deeply Fantasy
To name a few....

"Smooth" by Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas is considered the greatest hit of the past decade according to a Billboard chart system where if a single is at #1 it gets 100 points, #2 99 points, #3 98 points, etc. and the #1 single is judged by how many points the single earned on the Billboard Hot 100 along with chart run.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It seems being played across more formats would give you higher audience impressions.

Sincerely, Noah Eaton That system weights longevity way too much. In 2002, I thought of compiling the R&R 100 (now the Pulse 100) year-end chart using the 100-99-98-etc. system, and Aaliyah's "More Than a Woman" would have finished #11 for the year despite only peaking at #21. But "Smooth" does have more formats playing it than "Hey Ya!". OutKast's song might have fringe airplay on 8 or 9 formats, but is only getting played big on 5 of them (pop, rhythmic, alternative, urban, and hot ac). I think "Smooth" had pop, rhythmic, hot ac, ac, active rock, rock, and aaa.

I think "Smooth" had pop, rhythmic, hot ac, ac, active rock, rock, and aaa. In Hey Ya's defense Smooth had very limited airplay on rhythmic radio. On A/C, Rock, Active Rock, and Triple A those listeners account for maybe 20 million listener's combined. It was a massive hit but Hey Ya's got the multi-format advantage clearly because its a sizeable hit at all 5 of the formats giving it airplay and it includes all of the largest formats except for country.

Any list of the biggest hits of the past 10 years has to include:
Don't Speak- No Doubt Iris- Goo Goo Dolls
These two songs recieved incredible amounts of airplay from a number of different formats.
If anyone is interested, here is a list of the Top 15 songs of the past 10 years using Top 20 inverse points (my favorite chart of mine). This is Pop only.
1. Iris- Goo Goo Dolls (1998) 2. Hanging By A Moment- Lifehouse (2001) 3. Truly Madly Deeply- Savage Garden (1998) 4. Don't Speak- No Doubt (1996) 5. I Love You Always Forever- Donna Lewis (1996) 6. Smooth- Santana f/ Rob Thomas (1999) 7. Another Night- Real McCoy (1994) 8. Torn- Natalie Imbruglia (1998) 9. You Were Meant For Me- Jewel (1997) 10. How You Remind Me- Nickelback (2001) 11. Slide- Goo Goo Dolls (1999) 12. Kryptonite- 3 Doors Down (2000) 13. ...Baby One More Time- Britney Spears (1999) 14. Name- Goo Goo Dolls (1995) 15. I Know- Dionne Farris (1995)

I agree with Adonis.
Also, Complicated made the chart on 5 formats. And Landslide made the chart on 4 big formats.
I wouldn't call Smooth's charting on all those formats really remarkable because Active Rock and Rock isn't that much different, and as Adonis said, I don't think it got a lot of airplay on Rhythmic... did it?
Hanging By A Moment was played on 6 formats and had a little AC airplay.

"Beautiful" was added at five formats. I'm pretty sure there is no song that has crossed onto as many formats as "Hey Ya" though.

TLC's "Waterfalls," "No Scrubs," and "Unpretty" were all pretty big on several formats. I'm surprised no one's mentioned any of them yet!
I agree that "Iris," "Smooth," and "Don't Speak" must be 3 of the biggest though.

I know "Iris" made AC,HotAC,Pop,Alt., where it made #1 on the last 3, but did it also make Triple A, and all of the other Rock formats?? "Iris" "Smooth" and "Don't Speak" are probably among the top 5.

The Boy is Mine by Monica and Brandy was a colossal juggernaut of a hit in 1998. An across the board hit!

I'll agree with:
"Iris" "Smooth" "My Heart Will Go On" "Truly Madly Deeply" "Name"
And want to add: "I Want It That Way" "You're Still The One"
