I think she has 3 weeks in the bag without any extra promo needed. This will just help her overall lead.

AIWFCIY’s Hot 100 chartrun so far: (2000): 83 - (2012): 29 - 25 - 21 - (2013): 26 - 27 - 26 - (2014): 50 - 40 - 35 - (2015): 26 - 22 - 18 - 11 - (2016): 23 - 17 - 20 - 16 - 35 - (2017): 21 - 11 - 9 - 9 - 13 - (2018): 29 - 14 - 7 - 6 - 7 - 3 - (2019): 39 - 31 - 18 - 3 - 1 - What a journey! I just realized that the "Whitney Houston rule" caused this to be able to rechart - after Whitney died Billboard allowed old songs to chart if they had enough points to place top 50. How cool is that? Nippy is up there leading Joy to the World (Merry Christmas version) 🙏🏼

There must be a lot of media today about it hitting #1 because an iTunes surge started a few hours ago. Percentage wise it's rising significantly faster (+0.19) compared to the +.01 -.03 increase by the other non-Voice tracks. Who says the GP doesn't notice charts? I wonder if it will get a similar boost on streaming.

Wait so can this be #1 in 2020 so she gets credit for having a #1 in that decade? I guess it doesn't matter since I've decided this will now just go to #1 every Christmas until it's such a tradition people think it's part of the nativity story.

Yep, the Billboard article said that if this song continues its reign into the first week of 2020, she will be the first and only artist in history to have #1 hits in 4 decades.

Chart junkies:
Shouldn't this be technically charting on the Top 40 chart or is considered gold across formats even though it is outspinning quite a bit of songs? Nonetheless really interesting.

I wonder how many Top 40 spins this is getting. Sorry, if you aren't even charting in the the top 20 on the CHR\POP Chart, I don't believe that constitutes even with streaming that it should be even able to chart in the Hot 100. The new rules and system make no sense.

She’ll likely return to #1 nearly every holiday season for some time.
This tends to be the cold zone for non holiday songs, and by the end of the the 20’s, we could be talking about a multi-week number one. Keep in mind that only 2 songs in Billboard’s history have resurfaced at #1 in a different calendar year. “White Christmas” topped the Best Sellers chart in 1942 and then Disc Jockeys in 1945 (likely due to the end of WWII). Then you have “The Twist” that hit the pinnacle of the Hot 100 in 1960 and 1962... a truly unique case and probably the biggest musical anomaly barring Mariah’s feat.
The fact that she tops Digital Songs in 2005 and 2019 is amazing. If I recall, no other song has ever topped a sales chart in 2 different years with the same tune... going back to Best Sellers in 1940 and accounting for the Hot 100 Singles Sales (1984) and Digital Songs (2005).

The new rules and system make no sense. That also would ban nearly every Country and several Urban songs from charting. Last chart week, it was already #27 on overall Radio Songs chart ahead of hits like Roxanne. Speaking of radio, has it ever gone higher than #12 on the Radio Songs chart? It seems like that the last peak I recall.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if this eventually spent the most weeks at #1 replacing Lil Nas X who replaced OSD?

I don't know anyone who actively listens to radio anymore, including myself, between streaming options and satellite (although the latter counts toward impressions, I think).
