I think its too early to tell if Kat will be nominated or not. If Everywhere I Go gets released and becomes the huge hit it can and should be, that could get her a nomination. One of the best songs this decade, IMO. Let's just concentrate on LOVE STORY. if this fails, i dont think she's getting another single. I know this is grammys, but they've gotten more and more commercial lately, a mainstream pop artist almost has no chance on getting nomination without commericial success.

Yeah, I definitely think Amy will be nominated and win BNA. I can see her getting nominations in all of the big four categories actually.

I'm not sure if she'll win only because in the last couple years, it seems to be more commercialized and somewhat less about the music itself, with the '07 awards being the most glaring example of that.

So you think Carrie Underwood didn't deserve to win?

So you think Carrie Underwood didn't deserve to win? I think Carrie Underwood has a powerful voice, but considering her competition, no, overall I wouldn't say she was the best new artist nominated. I would have sooner seen it go to Corinne Bailey Rae, Imogen Heap, or James Blunt - Corinne Bailey Rae is the one most to my personal liking, but I think all three display actual artistry in their performances. Underwood is a good singer and I enjoy some of her songs, but I just don't think there's anything out of the ordinary about her album or music that somehow deserves special recognition. Then again, there's probably a good reason I'm not part of any panel that has anything to do with the Grammy Awards.

I guess it boils down to what your partial to. I've been studying voice for the last two years, so I obviously have a bit more respect for people that can actually sing. Corinne has a pretty voice and she can hold a tune, but I don't see what's so great about her. I enjoyed "Put Your Records On," but the rest of her album had me asleep after the first few songs. I don't know much about Imogen, but I did see some video of her on YouTube attempting to perform "Hide & Seek" and I was beyond underwhelmed. As for James Blunt... Don't even get me started. He is one of the most over-praised artists I've seen in a while. His lyrics are okay, but his voice is just PIERCING to me. I can barely get through "You're Beautiful" without wanting to tear my ears off.
I think Carrie deserved the award, because she's probably the one person in the group that can actually see a lot of growth in the future. She's fresh on the scene and has a smash album. Everyone knows she can sing (as she proved that night by out-performing all of the other nominees by a long shot), so now I think the people that voted for her want to see what she'll do with her next few albums. It looks like Carrie is becoming more involved in the writing process, so it should be interesting to see what she comes up with. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing her growth over the next few years or so. I think she's going to surprise a lot of people who may have doubted her in the past.
Just look at someone like Kelly Clarkson. Many people doubted her because her first album was a collection of average pop songs with no real direction, as well as the AI stigma. A year later she comes out with what's quickly becoming one of the best pop albums of the decade (as shown by sales and the recognition she received). So basically, I think anything is possible.
Hope that all makes sense. Heh.

Yeah, I can definitely see Amy Winehouse having one of those breakout Grammy nights like Norah and Alicia did. Her album sales are good for not having a ~hit~ single so the word of mouth on her must be amazing. I personally love her, so I'd love for her to have a big night. And I think Daughtry will absolutely get nominated for BNA. Their album sales and success can't be denied. And yeah, I can't see Katharine getting nominated for anything as much as I'd love for her to!. Daughtry will be the one representing the Season Five idols. ;)

No way will daughtry get nominated for bna - Didnt session musicians record the album with Chris whilst the members of the group were sought?
As much as I love amy and have for a good few years now I can also not see the voters embracing her personally although I would like to be wrong
PS - It is good to see Maroon 5 currently smashing apart the phony bna curse lol

You don't think so? I thought that they would with their album sales being what they are? I don't know how the grammys does voting though, lmao. I know that BNA they have a lot of less famous people instead of commercial successes, but they usually have a couple people with huge hits? I don't know, we'll see! :)

Would Robin Thicke qualify for BNA? I know he is not new but I never can tell what kinda weird things the Grammys are going to do.

Kat might not get a nomination for Best New Artist, but I have a feeling she will get a nomination for "Love Story" for some reason. Depending on her third single it might be that one.

I also think Jennifer Hudson is going to win for whichever R&B vocal category she gets put in. I don't really understand the difference between the regular R&B category and the Contemporary R&B category... It looks like it's basically just an excuse to nominate more people IMO.

It's not like sessions musicians sang the songs. Speaking of the Grammy's, does anyone know how I can download the mp3 of Alanis's 96 performance of You Oughta Know??? I've been looking for so damn long! That was on the 2 track U.S. CD single for "You Learn." Check your PMs in a little bit. :)

Are you sure he's not r&b?? I thought he'd get Contemporary R&B Album, R&B Male and that's about it. Smack that already got nominated.

He's definitely R&B. Was I Wanna Love You submitted last year for anything? That might get nominated too. And he might get one for The Sweet Escape too if it's nominated in Best Pop Collaboration
