Yeah, if John Legend isn't there for album then they would put Robin there, both are so close but since I like John's better i chose that :)

If Kat's "Love Story" takes off then she may make the list for best new artist. If it doesn't, I doubt it. I think Taylor Swift over Kat McPhee. Yeah I agree...I think like Christina back in the day...Kat has the voice to get the nomination but she needs more buzz around a single and sales.

I don't think Kat will be nominated for BNA. Even if Love Story is a hit, I doubt they would nominate two people from AI in the same year. I don't even think Kat would even get a nom for Female Pop Vocal.

Who else is there to be nominated? I can only think of Lily Allen and she isn't big as Kat is.

Billboard's latest Chart Beat discussing Idols and possible Grammy nods
http;//www.billboard.com/bbcom/chart_beat/chat.jsp
"Hi Fred!
"...Along with millions of other people, I have become an 'American Idol' addict. Just by reading your column each week, it is quite apparent that the show has become a huge fixture in the American landscape... The series has brought us many big name artists such as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. But one season in particular seems to be churning out the biggest crops of star: season five...
It seems that this particular season had the greatest variety in singers and they all seem to be doing well in their respected genres. Now with Chris and his band Daughtry selling so well and Katherine breaking into the movie industry, it seems that the season five has by far been the most successful season overall to date. Out of these Idols, do you think any of them have a chance at bringing home a Grammy for Best New Artist like Carrie Underwood did this past year?..."
"Dear Dan,
Knowing Grammy voters as I do (and I am a voting member of NARAS), I believe the band Daughtry has the best chance for a Grammy nomination especially in the rock categories. It's posssible some other season five finalists could receive nominations, too..."
Unlikely NARAS will nominate two AI contestants in the Best New Artist category. Thus out of the possible Idol contestants, Daughtry would probably take that slot.

I don't see the big deal about nominating 2 people from Idol...but then again like someone else said...if the band was formed around Chris and they didn't work on the album...they still nominate the whole band?

It's really a trip to see people thinking that Kat McPhee will be nominated for BNA. I'm not even sure that Daughtry is a sure bet for nomination. Even if either one (or both) get nominated, they probably won't win - Amy Winehouse will.
As it stands, I think the BNA noms will be:
Amy Winehouse Taylor Swift (token country nomination) Robin Thicke Lilly Allen Daughtry

I don't think it is a big deal either but I doubt that NARAS voters would vote 2 AI contestants in the Best New Artist category. I think there is still prejudice against AI in general.
I think that NARAS voters are a little snooty and prefer indie artists so I think they would only vote in one AI contestant in that category.
But again if "Love Story" blows up, perhaps they will vote for Kat. If it doesn't then I think that Kat has no chance.
Chris Daughtry has had 2 number 1 songs and is the biggest seller of the year so I doubt that the NARAS voters will be able to be so snobby to ignore that fact. Thus I think he will be nominated (won't win though).

Since unlikely Robin Thicke will be eligible since he already had a radio hit in 2002, I think instead of Robin Thicke: Matt Kearney, deleted Nutini, Feist, Chrisette Michele, etc.

Would be interesting to see if the artist in which an American idol contestant sang the artist's radio and MTV video hit from 5 years ago on American Idol this year would be considered a "brand new artist"...LOL!

yeah i think avril (gf or WYG) and gwen(TSE or 4ITM) are guarantee a spot on best female pop vocal performance. what's pink situation? i heard that they submitted UUH and WK last year. how dumb. the next spot will probably be norah jones (she had a new singel right? who cares .. she's norah jones) kelly clarkson, nelly furtado and probably aguilera will fight for the 4th spot the last spot will be sherryl crow or bonnie raits or something like that, dont forget about amy winehouse.
carrie's BHC might show up for ROTY. clive will fight hard for that.

I have to say though...season 5's idols who got records deals...what 6 of them? They were all special in a weird way...they didn't feel like the typical american idols...and still don't...just like regular artists... Lily is definitely out, I think...she has zero buzz right now...Amy killed it and stepped up more than Lily has...she lost it for some reason...

I think people are underestimating Elliott... He has the whole indie/underdog thing going on and his song is a hit now. He might surprise us all and get that BNA nom over Daughtry (who might be snubbed over being a commercial hit and the whole "band didn't record on the album" deal ) and Kat (if LS flops).

I doubt Elliott will get nominated over Chris Daughtry. That would be a HUGE snub to Chris Daughtry who has the biggest album of the year and wrote most of the songs off his album.
I am sure that Clive Davis will be campaigning hard for Chris Daughtry to get the BNA nomination.
I think the Billboard discussion is right on the money.
But I do agree that Elliott has a better chance for the nom than Kat.

what's pink situation? i heard that they submitted UUH and WK last year. how dumb. If I remember correctly they submitted SG and Dear Mr. President. I don't think WK was sent out. I know UUH wasn't. It wasn't even officially released when they sent out noms.

Elliott needs more sales...but I agree...he has a shot too. Should we throw Pickler in the ring...or did Taylor Swift steal her thunder??

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Sober? Best Pop Vocal Album for My December? Don't know if they'd call it Pop or Rock, but I'm pretty sure MD still counts as pop.

They got rid of Female Rock. So if will have to go in Pop. LOL
But if they hadn't, she would probably get a Female Rock nomination (Pink, Avril, and Michelle got rock nominations before)
