It's tops off Down Under! Taking a cue from Queensland's former shirtless resident Matthew McConaughey, John Mayer shows he can doff his top, too, following a swim at Byron Beach on Thursday.

Melbourne 4/7 Review: The concert last night was awesome! I was very impressed. The set list was great as John covered a bit of all his albums in! He started with Belief, which started the concert well. This was followed by Good Love is On the Way. He introduced the next song by reflecting on his older self, he then corrected himself saying actually it was his younger self and how he wrote the song when he was unsure about the decisions he was making in life and consequently played Why Georgia; following this song people from the crowd yelled I love you, and he returned the love. I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You) was next. It was fantastic!! A guy from the audience yelled I love you, and John replied I love you too man. The audience laughed. The next song John introduced with the comments of, do you ever have those days where you feel like breaking out of your body and hence bigger than my body was next. He started The Heart of Life with a cool intro and it was nice to hear this song live. Waiting on the World to Change followed, which the whole arena loved. There was another sweet intro and a song not as well known by the arena with I Don't Need No Doctor which led into a small amount of I got a woman. I loved this song as it showed freedom, fun and the artist of John. He introduced Vultures with ¡¥people ask me is this about the media¡K¡¦ proceeding vultures was an intro from John saying ¡¥just these 4 notes and you have this hit song¡¦. The crowd went crazy singing along to No Such Thing. He then had time to introduce all his band members and with Robbie McIntosh they played a little theme song ¡V it was funnyƒº. He completed his set with an extended version of I'm Gonna Find Another You. Before he went off stage he grabbed a sign from the crowd declaring ¡¥I love JM. Please play 3 x 5!¡¦ and he said ¡¥Renee first song back is 3 x 5¡¦. John and the band were off the stage for quite a long time. John came back by himself and played 3 x 5 acoustically, however before he played this he thanked the crowd for the support, further explaining that the crowd sounded like he was playing his first ever gig in Melbourne and that he was lucky to go overseas with his music. The last song was Gravity; he launched it saying that this was his favourite song. It was a perfect finale with great electric solos. At some point he also thanked Local-83 for producing the Australian Local-83 wristbands with which he could identify his fans. It was the best concert; I was impressed with John¡¦s electric solos, and his acoustic work. I was in heaven for the entire night! Setlist: Belief Good Love is On the Way Why Georgia I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You) Bigger Than My Body The Heart of Life Waiting on the World to Change I Don't Need No Doctor Vultures No Such Thing I'm Gonna Find Another You -- encore -- 3x5 Gravity

Mayer on a musical continuum Singer-guitarist moves from pop to blues-rock to meatier tunes Sandra Sperounes, The Edmonton Journal EDMONTON - John Mayer likes to confuse his fans. After striking it rich with two pop hits, Your Body Is A Wonderland and Bigger Than My Body, he released a blues-rock album with the John Mayer Trio. He's known for his sensitive falsetto, yet he's blessed with a wicked sense of humour -- displayed in the posts of his blog, the paragraphs of his defunct Esquire column, and the episodes of VH1's John Mayer Has A TV Show. He also comes across as a serious guitarist who doesn't strive to be the subject of gossip, yet he's dating one of the paparazzi's favourite victims, Jessica Simpson. Photos of the two -- standing or walking side by side, almost lifeless -- appear almost daily on celebrity blogs. Thankfully, getting Mayer to open up during interviews isn't a complicated task -- even if one of Sony BMG's publicists is listening in on the conversation with a stopwatch in hand. Just ask the 29-year-old about his latest album, Continuum, and he lights up like a little kid hopped up on Oreos. (Perhaps he's tired of dodging questions about you-know-who.) "I don't have a problem with saying it's my favourite (album)," says Mayer, who was recently named one of the new guitar gods by Rolling Stone magazine. "I often wonder if I'm ever gonna make a record that's not my favourite. This is just one in a long lineage of albums I'll have. It is my favourite and the songs feel like a tailor-made suit for exactly what I want to play. I'm just getting better at tailoring the songs to what my desire is. When I can roam free as a guitar player, that's when I really feel like I'm doing something that means a lot." Inspired by his work with the John Mayer Trio, Continuum is a much more subtle, bluesier and intricate effort than his debut, 2001's Room For Squares. Even his lyrics are much meatier. Instead of singing about corporeal matters which often made listeners cringe with embarrassment, Mayer tackles intangible concepts --political apathy, love and belief. Waiting On The World To Change, which sounds like it was recorded in the '70s, captures our disillusionment with politicians. Slow Dancing In a Burning Room is a third-party look at the demise of a relationship while Belief pokes fun at the rigidity of some people's opinions, regardless of their political stripes. "It was 2004, I was just staring to write music for Continuum but I was still on the road for Heavier Things," he says. "I remember explaining to one of the guys on the bus, 'Man, I just want to write this song about how everyone in the world feels like they can supplant another person's belief with theirs.' "I had tons of lyrics, but most of them couldn't make it because (although) I knew what I was saying, ... I think it would've been lost in translation. But you don't checkmate someone's belief with your own belief. No one ever said on the O'Reilly Factor, 'You know what, Bill, I'm gonna stop you right there. You got me.' " Mayer, on the other hand, is more than open to the concept of artistic change. He's constantly trying to improve his skills as musician. He's not terribly fond of his pipes -- playing his six-string was his first love. He says he's always trying to explore his voice and recently started taking singing lessons for the first time in his life. "The voice is really an interesting thing because it's so capable of mimicry. It's very, very easy to pick up a tic," he says. "Like saying, 'Yeah' at the end of everything or clicking into a falsetto as a habit is a pet peeve in myself and other people. Embellishing into falsetto is like crying wolf." At the same time, Mayer feels like he can't be as open with his activities as he was pre-Simpson. He tries to ignore all the prying into his private life and refuses to complain about it. "Isn't complaining about your lack of personal life still letting people into your personal life?" he asks. But Mayer admits he's now more suspicious of everyone and everything. Who's in the car behind him? Which tabloids and bloggers are reading his online posts? What could they possibly try to infer from his babbles about Dreamgirls, purses and Grey's Anatomy? "When artists get that kind of coverage, it makes fans suspicious of the artist. "It makes artists suspicious of the fans sometimes. Everything becomes more entendre-laden, so it's very difficult for me to just write about what's going on in my life without people getting suspicious. "It makes me look behind my back when it comes to writing a stupid, funny little idea and people want to infer things that don't even exist in it. "I have to get over that, so I think I'm just going to blog about music. I have this idea about blogging the songs that are literally stuck in my head that day. I woke up this morning with In A New York Minute by The Eagles, so I think it would be interesting to say, 'Here's what's actually being sung in my head at the moment.' " More interesting, at least, than who Mayer might be dating. Source: The Edmonton Journal

Did they ever pick a second single? Although I'm not tired of hearing "Waiting For The World To Change", my AC radio stations seem to be stuck on that, "Daughters", and "Your Body Is A Wonderland".

I heard "Gravity" on the radio the other day. I guess they're not really pushing it though since I never saw a video or anything and it was supposedly released over like a month ago.

2 million ain't bad. Way to go! I don't listen to this CD hardly because it really isn't my style, but I've always respected John Mayer. Good to see him holding it down.

John Mayer and America Ferrera enjoy the honor of being included in Time's annual list of the 100 most influential people at New York's Lincoln Center on Tuesday. "This is Time magazine!" Mayer told PEOPLE. "To be recognized like that - it's pretty cool."
