We are having an invasion of Disney songs on the Itunes chart. "Breaking Free" is currently #1, "Get Cha Head in the Game" is #5, and "The Start of Something New" is #8. Did you watch the movie? What did you think of it?

I never watch Disney Channel, but funny enough, I watched a minute or two of it to see how much I'd hate it (I can't STAND musicals) and they were singing "Breaking Free" the No. 1 song.

The movie is cheesy, but I enjoy the songs. "Get 'Cha Head in the Game" is a JAM! and "Breaking Free" and "What I've Been Looking For" are extremely catchy.

My sister is absolutely nuts about HSM. The singers are pretty talented. Disney did a great job promoting this one for its young TV audience. Its paid off well.

On AT20 this week Casey Kasem mentioned "High School Musical" is the first television soundtrack to top the chart since "Miami Vice."

Wow. This proves the clout of the digital single era. No way HSM would have had this much success on strength of the movie only... yes, it would have sold a lot, but I think all the press dealing from the singles charting really well for that one week on Billboard + its constant placement among the top digital albums really helped it become a phenomenon.

this whole "HSM" thing reminds me of the mexican telenovela "Rebelde" where in the show they have a Teen pop group anmed RBD, their actual CD's have broken record sales in Mexico and latin America (extremely successful here too on latin charts and radio), the group was integrated in the show because the main characters are part of the group, so they worked the group into the scripts with the characters and stuff so they pretty much have all the exposure they want on their show, since the main characters perform the songs from their CD on the show, and just this Saturday they had a concert at the LA colisium and sold more then 60-70,000 tickets! I never thought that something like this would work in the US with an English act, but after seein how successful "High School Musical" has been then i guess it can!

Didn't they cover Kelly Clarkson's "Gone"? I remember it was pretty gross.

Didn't they cover Kelly Clarkson's "Gone"? I remember it was pretty gross. LOL yeah they did! None of them are really vocalist, but the producer of the show really hit a pot a gold with them and is milkin it for what its worth, but they also have catchy songs aswell!, lol i have to admit that i like a song or too lol!!! lol I'm still wonder if this could happen with the same impact here in the states?? I know Hilary and "HSM" are from disney and Hilary does pretty good with sales, and is also a good tour act, but i'm wondering if the exact same thing was reproduced in english like the group from the Novela, would they have the same impact as them??! Well anyways going off topic here, i've just always wondered if the same could be done in the US, and "HSM" is the closest to them! well anyways i get a lil crazy on the typin when i'm tired i better go to bed! lol

So, one of my friends is obsessed with this soundtrack. Problem is she's 23, a little outside the Disney demographic. She made me download the movie and I'm watching it right now. It does have an appeal in its own ridiculous over-the-top cheesy way. I love the Kelsey character, and I love that there are so many lines that can be taken as double entendres that go right over the heads of the Disney audience. Troy: "So, I really want to try something new... but I don't think my friends will understand"... hehehe

I LOVE THE MOVIE AND THE SOUNDTRACK.
Wasn't this #1 on the BBTop200 and get kicked out and somehow got back to #1 again? THAT'S PRETTY DAMN WELL.
A sequal is already in the works and should be out in 2007. A part three will be happening as well.
Looks like Disney has a hit with this movie. As they are always replaying it on the channel. IMHO, they're going way too far though.
Soundtrack, DVD, Part 2, Upcoming books, and talks of a tour and a television series.

Also Zac Efron didn't sing most of "Breaking Free" some Seely dude did. Actually, Zac didn't sing most of the songs at all.

'High School Musical' concert tour set Posted 10/23/2006 11:25 PM ET
LOS ANGELES (AP) — High School Musical is hitting the road with a nationwide concert tour featuring stars of the hit TV movie that has grown into a pop-culture phenomenon. Cast members including Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel will take part in the 40-city tour that is scheduled to begin Nov. 30 in San Diego.
High School Musical: The Concert expands the Disney Channel franchise that has already produced a triple-platinum selling soundtrack and a planned movie sequel.
The concert, to feature songs from the film, will also include cast members Corbin Bleu, Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens. Joining them will be Drew Seeley, who co-wrote Get'cha Head in the Game and sang on the High School Musical soundtrack.
Coleman is currently on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, which ends Nov. 15. Another star of the film, Zac Efron, is working on the movie version of the musical Hairspray and will miss the tour.
Kenny Ortega, the film's Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer, is the creative director for the concert, staged by Buena Vista Music Group, the recording and music publishing arm for The Walt Disney Co.
Bob Cavallo, chairman of Buena Vista Music Group, who noted the soundtrack is the year's top-selling album so far and is on track to finish at No. 1, offered his perspective on the appeal of High School Musical.
"A full-scale musical, a burst-into-song musical, was made so that youngsters feel it was made for them. It was their subjects, their issues, their music," Cavallo said Monday. "It was well made, a story with heart."
Disney is already scoring a success with another concert based on a TV musical, The Cheetah Girls, which is on a sold-out tour of at least 60 cities.
Tickets for High School Musical concerts go on sale Nov. 4, with one Canadian stop, in Toronto, planned. It concludes Jan 28 in Las Vegas.
