D’ANGELO PLAYS FIRST U.S. SHOW IN 12 YEARS AT BONNAROOD’Angelo returned to the stage and how sweet it was. The reclusive singer made his first live U.S. appearance in 12 years at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. “I’ve been waiting 12 years to say this—ladies and gentlemen, D’Angelo!” said Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson, who introduced his friend during his Superjam session in the early hours of Sunday morning. During his first show since 2000, D’Angelo and his band thrilled with a 90-minute surprise set that included Jimi Hendrix’s “Have You Ever Been to Electric Ladyland,” Parliament Funkadelic’s “Funky Dollar Bill,” Led Zeppelin’s “What Is and What Should Never Be,” and The Beatles’ “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.” ?uestlove hopes the warm reception will provide motivation for D’Angelo to release his new album. “I wanted him to see that,” he told the The Associated Press. “That’s a green light. Me doing it wasn’t, like, running out of jam partners. Me doing it was basically showing him, ‘Look, you are so missed you don’t even realize how much you are missed,’ hoping that this will be the adrenaline boost that will finally get him to turn his record into the label. It’s done, it’s brilliant. I played on it. I know it’s brilliant. Now it’s just time to let his kids go and show it to the world. That’s what I’m here for.” D’Angelo toured briefly in Europe earlier this year and will play the ESSENCE Music Festival in New Orleans on July 6. www.rap-up.com/2012/06/10/dangelo-plays-first-us-show-in-12-years-at-bonnaroo/

I loved his performance and you could tell by the crowd reaction that he's been missed...but a haircut would have been nice. His appearance definitely needed sprucing up, especially with all the weight loss he could have showed it off a lot better.

Yeah he looked a mess and was getting ripped into all over Twitter for it, but I really don't care WHAT he looks like. He's still got it in him.

He's like the male R&B version of Fiona Apple.

I wasn't really here for that performance. He sounded a little rusty but I liked his piano playing.

Loved his set at the Made in America festival. I really love his new song "The Charade".
Here are live performances of some of the new songs he's been performing this year.

www.rollingstone.com/music/news/dangelo-99-percent-done-with-new-album-questlove-says-20130122D'Angelo '99 Percent Done' With New Album, Questlove Says Roots drummer calls long-awaited record 'totally brilliant' Not only is D'Angelo's endlessly awaited new album "99 percent done," it's an album well worth waiting for, Questlove told Billboard in a new interview. "I would not be far off by saying this is probably my generation's version of Sly [and the Family Stone's] There's a Riot Goin' On," the drummer said. "It's potent. It's funky. It's an extremely hard pill to swallow." Questlove said the singer has been holed up in the studio finishing the "totally brilliant" follow-up to 2000's classic Voodoo. "We spent close to 18 hours, well not me personally because I have to go to Fallon, but usually right after work," Questlove said. "He's the only person that I'll actually go to the studio with and stay there to six in the morning, re-doing these drum parts. I won't even do that for my own band, but I'll do it for him. Right now, we're just tightening up the loose ends." Questlove added that he hopes D'Angelo will turn in the album next month, and said the new songs sound fresh despite the delay. "He's one of those artists that have, of course, taken 13 years to follow up a record. It's going to take you about 10 years to digest this record. Totally brilliant. Just the way this society works with music . . . being able to judge if something is a classic after the first listen, you can do that after 30 seconds on this. And the fact that we started this record in 2004, and it still sounds like it came out five years from now, it is a testament to the timelessness of it." Amid earlier rumors that the record was very close to being finished, D'Angelo made his first live appearances in more than a decade last year, jamming with the Roots at Bonnaroo and playing a full set at New Orleans' Essence Music Festival. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Questlove said the record would mark a "radical 180 turn" for D'Angelo, adding the musician had been honing his guitar playing, creating his own unique keyboard sounds and even finding new inspiration in artists like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and David Bowie.

Wasn't the album already 99% done about a year ago? Questlove already said that. They need to stop blowing hot air. Almost as bad as Maxwell!

Yeah, all that info is old news. It's all from 2011 in fact, now that I checked. It must be a really slow news month for Rolling Stone.

Got this from the Prince board. We shall see.
D'Angelo review from Montreal: CD due in Sept. '13
And what of the long-awaited new record? “Totally brilliant,” promises ?uestlove, a “radical 180 turn” featuring his guitar playing and a unique new keyboard sound, using a guitar processor. The first single, “Really Love,” drops around the 4th of July; the album in its entirety will be released in September, featuring Palladino, ?uestlove, Hargrove, Fred Wesley, Dave, James Gadson, Jesse Johnson, Isaiah Sharkey, Eric Leeds, Cleo Sample and Q-Tip.
A tour in support of the album begins in August (U.S.) followed by dates in Europe (October-November). Judging by his Montreal performance, D’Angelo is sure to renew the oxygen supply to his soul-starved fans. Stay tuned.

There's another "elusive chanteuse", and they finally set up a Twitter account for him. It's most likely run by his management. twitter.com/TheDangelo

consequenceofsound.net/2014/11/dangelo-announces-second-coming-tour/D'Angelo Announces The Second Coming TourOver the summer, D’Angelo’s manager, Kevin Liles, made two rather sizable promises: 1) the reclusive R&B singer would release his long-awaited follow-up to 2000’s Voodoo by year’s end, and 2) he would tour behind the record in early 2015. Barring any Beyoncé/U2-style surprise release, it appears the world will go another year without a new D’Angelo LP. However, Liles’ other promise has come at least partially true, as D’Angelo has announced a new round of international dates. Slated for mid-February through early March, the 13-date “Second Coming Tour” centers mostly around shows in Germany, with additional dates scheduled in the UK, Sweden, and Switzerland. According to a press release, the shows will see D’Angelo and his band The Vanguard “combine many popular hits with new songs and fresh interpretations of covers.” D’Angelo 2015 Tour Dates: 02/11 – Zurich, CH @ Volkshaus Zurich 02/12 – Frankfurt, DE @ Hugenottenhalle 02/14 – Berlin, DE @ Halle 02/16 – Paris, FR @ Palais Des Congres 02/17 – Birmingham, UK @ O2 Academy Birmingham 02/18 – Manchester, UK @ Apollo 02/20 – London, UK @ Apollo 02/24 – Hamburg, DE @ Docks 02/27 – Oslo, NO @ Sentrum Scene 02/28 – Stockholm, SE @ Annexet 03/02 – Amsterdam, NL @ Paradiso 03/06 – Koln, DE @ Tanzbrunnen 03/07 – Brussels, BE @ Forest National
