All Music Guide gave it 4.5/5. 95 on Metacritic with 18 reviews in. Universal acclaim.

I agree. This is a "B" album for me, maybe a "B+" if I'm in the mood. These five star masterpiece reviews are way over the top. His vocals alone knock this down a letter grade.

Good read. Didn't copy and paste because of all the videos and hyperlinks in the middle.

The album ended up scanning 111k, according to Billboard. When was the last time an R&B artist scanned over 100k the first week? Tamar Braxton?
I think I'm really starting to warm up to the whole no singles preceding the release/surprise release strategy. I think it kind of tricks the public into impulsively buying an album because of the buzz and society's innate desire to be "in" or "apart" of something . If RCA would have done the traditional single two months before the album release strategy, he probably would have sold half (or even less than half) of what he did with this album the first week. Now, the labels need to start thinking about how to keep the momentum up after the first few weeks. But I definitely think we'll see a lot more of these type of releases in 2015.

^I don't know about that. I get your point, but someone like D'Angelo has a cult following and he was easily going to open up with at least 80K or so, with or without the traditional album set up. His album was anticipated for years.

That's what happened for the album "Beyoncé" too...it did great because of the hype and because of the way it was released.

"Aint That Easy" is my jam! That intro, the layered vocals, the flow.
Damn ...single please.

Up to 96 on Metacritic with 28 reviews. Truly on the level of "What's Going On" and "Sign o' the Times"

$248 is the ONLY option for tickets to the Apollo show. Are they out they damn mine??? Try calling the box office to see if they have any because that's the premium ticket price. The lowest I believe is $56-$58. Edit: Tickets officially go on sale tomorrow so you're seeing just the Pre-Order ticket pricing.

Funny you said that because I have just taken my Beats out of retirement today so maybe I will give this a spin.

So pissed I missed this show but I was not about to shell out upwards of $1000 like my friend did.

Sold out again in less than 5 minutes. I give up. I don't think I will ever see him live. There are just some artists like that. Too many people want to see him, too much hype behind the album. It doesn't help that I was in line on that site but then my work computer spazzed out while I was trying to do work (go figure!) and I had to restart so I lost some time there. Oh well. I will continue to enjoy the album!

Saw their show in NYC last night, great live act! Some of his high notes were off at times, but he and the band more than made up for it with energy. The new material really comes to life since a lot of it seems like it was born out of jam sessions. There was a lot of love for him in the room.
