Jagged Edge On Leaving Columbia Records - "We Just Didn't See Eye To Eye"by Kevin R. Scott R&B quartet Jagged Edge recently sat down with SOHH to talk about their departure from Columbia Records and how ending their long-standing relationship with the label made them reconsider ever recording again as a group. "We were already kind of disgruntled," Brandon "Case Dinero" Casey told SOHH about the group's former label. "We're grateful to Columbia for what they've done for us over the last 10 years. The success we did accomplish, it's appreciated. [But] We were just worlds apart in terms of what we do by nature. Jagged Edge is an R&B, urban group and what they do by nature is [run] a pop/rock record label." "There comes a time in any lengthy relationship when you kinda evaluate where you are... where we are, in terms of Jagged Edge and where we felt Columbia viewed us, in terms of the work they were putting in to the last couple projects," he added. "It was kinda evident how they felt. We just didn't see eye to eye, and that's [been] for some years now." As previously reported by SOHH, the Atlanta based quartet - consisting of members Brandon, Brian "Brasco" Casey, Kyle Norman and Richard Wingo - was the first act signed by Jermaine Dupri after he became president of urban music at Island Def Jam earlier this year. Jagged Edge is set to release, Baby Making Project, a collection of ballads and mid tempo compositions led by the single, "Put A Lil' Umph In It" featuring Ashanti. The album features production by Dupri as well as the fellas themselves. Baby Making Project is set to hit stores on September 25 via So So Def/Island Def Jam.

Why couldn't they release 1 CD? Anyways, "Put A Little..." sucks and they don't really have a fanbase, so I can see this being their lowest selling album.

It is one of the hottest R&B slow jams of 2007. I think the lyrical content can be worked on.

I thought it was funny because there are just so much good music "SLOW JAMZ" out right now, and especially for the WHOLE year 2007, saying that "Put A Little" is one of the best is ridiculous.

Off the top of my head, singles by Trey Songz, J. Holiday, Robin Thicke, Elliott Yamin, Ne-Yo, Joss Stone, Mario, etc.

I'll give you "Bed", "Can't Help But Wait" and anything Robin Thicke. And "Put A Little Umph In It" is right up there with the best slow jams of the year.

I really like the CD. At first, I thought it was gonna be more bland drivel but they really surprised me. The whole album's mid-tempo and smooth so the melodies and overall catchy tone of the records kinda sneaks up on you but it's definitely one of their strongest efforts in a while. I also love how the album is like one continuous song (seriously, that's a great thing) because each song flows so well into the next one and they never really miss a beat.
I'd love for "Whole Town Laughing", "Can't Get Right", and "Turn U On" to be singles but they said they were only gonna release 2. Sad that they chose "Umph" as the lead because it's the weakest song on the CD to me.

Billboard Review:
For artists like Jagged Edge, whose careers bank on crafting solid (but not groundbreaking) albums for their core fans, consistency is often confused with complacency. Luckily, the group's super-harmonious ballad formula works well on "Baby Makin' Project." Making it clear that they're not venturing far beyond the bedroom, the quartet sets the mission-to-please mood with songs like "Get This" and "Turn You On." Elsewhere, the 11-track disc offers suave jams like "Say I Love You" and the Ashanti-assisted lead single "Put a Little Umph in It," which gives a nod to ladies with that magic touch. Six albums deep, JE still isn't immune to cliché come-ons and hit-or-miss one-liners, and the act often goes into harmony overload (there is such a thing). Yet, the guys still have a way of making too much of a good thing sound good.—Clover Hope __________________________
Some really nice jams on this CD!

I'm going to be happy on September 25th because Jagged Edge is my favorite group of all time. I have all of their CDs, and I automatically support their material whether it's optimal quality or not. I'm hoping this will be better than their 2001 CD--

Music Review: Jagged Edge By MELANIE SIMS, Associated Press Writer Mon Sep 24 Jagged Edge, "Baby Making Project" (So So Def/Island Urban) Jagged Edge's latest disc, "Baby Makin' Project," begins with a montage of the group's greatest hits, including "Gotta Be," "He Can't Love You" and "Let's Get Married." The intro is a quick reminder that Jagged Edge does ballads. And they do ballads well.
Songs about making up, breaking up and staying together have always been the group's bread and butter. And now they're serving up an entire album of slow jams, not an uptempo track in the bunch.
"Baby Makin Project" is as sexy and sweet as the title suggests. First single "Put a Little Umph In It" featuring Ashanti, in which the guys sing "I love it when you grind on me," is about as racy as the lyrics gets.
Twins Brian and Brandon Casey, with their soft, mellow tones, handle most of the group's singing duties. They beg a lost love to return home on "Whole Town laughing," refuse to let go of a rocky relationship on "I'll be Damned" and send a reminder to a lover about whose been by her side on "Me That's Who."
The guys aren't doing anything musically they haven't already done in the past. That includes working with producer Jermaine Dupri. But fans of Jagged Edge's classics will be happy to hear more of the stuff they've always loved.
CHECK OUT THIS TRACK: "Can't Get Right" includes the usual sweet stuff — "Sometimes I'm almost sorry that I found you (and it's only because) because I can't get no peace when I'm not around you." The flute sound in the background is pretty awesome too.

This whole album is great. Really good stuff on it. They need to release more than 2. If it sells well they will release more singles.
