I didn't know what else to listen to this past weekend, so I gave this album a spin. And then another. And I'm so glad now it finally clicked. It's probably not worthy of year-end list status, but I can now firmly claim it's my third favourite album from Mike. :)

I can now firmly claim it's my third favourite album from Mike. :) Me too. The Hardest Way... has its high moments - When You Wasn't Famous, Prangin' Out - but this is better as a whole.

Mike Skinner to premiere new songs via TwitterHe's writing a song a day this week, and giving them all away for free Mike Skinner has promised to give away three brand new Streets songs via his Twitter account this week. Writing on the social networking site yesterday (April 13), Skinner revealed that he plans to write and record one song a day, and then share them for free over the internet. His first Tweet about the giveaway outlined his reasons for the move. It read: "I am going to Tweet three new songs this week. I can't be bothered with all this trying to sell you music. It wastes valuable time." Skinner followed up his original post by stating that he's "gonna be in so much trouble" for giving the music away for free. He later went into more detail about the music he's planning to write. "Day 1 will be easy. I've got one nearly done," he explained. "Day 2 easy. Day 3 is looking tricky. Might have to post a totally rubbish one." The star then revealed his plans for the coming evening, which included watching films and a documentary about 'Handel' to gain inspiration. "Right. 'Handel'. Then 'Usual Suspects'. Kevin Spacey inspiration. You won't hear from me till tomorrow eve and a song I will have," he wrote. If Skinner keeps his promise, he will post a new song at some point today (April 14). www.nme.com/news/nme/44017-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- His Twitter: twitter.com/skinnermike

If he Tweets out anything on the level of the first two albums, or even When You Wasn't Famous, I may have to join the Twitter craze.

Mike Skinner's fifth studio album Computers and Blues is out next week in the UK. Wait... wut? Damn, this news comes outta nowhere. I'm #nothere4streaming but s**t I hope this album's better than the last. If nothing else, the cover's quite attractive. If he Tweets out anything on the level of the first two albums, or even When You Wasn't Famous, I may have to join the Twitter craze. Omg :looksatsignature: BWAHahAHAHAHAHahaHAH @theexaltedfont

I loved his first two albums, but he hasn't done anything great since. "Puzzled By People" is nice though.

After two listens, this, Mike Skinner's final album as The Streets, is..... ok. No real highlights noted & the single quotes a cuntry song, which is .8 taken off the top imo. Funny tho, I listened to the last album, too, & it wasn't as bad as I recalled, just, again... ok. In fact, maybe I never even thought it was bad, but boring instead. Neway RIP The Streets - your first two LPs are classixxx.

Omg :looksatsignature: BWAHahAHAHAHAHahaHAH @theexaltedfontOMG :looksatyoursignature: I didn't even notice that a minute ago when I was multiquoting to the th of me in the TVOTR thread. I remember seeing them tour behind the second album, back when I listened to a lot of random stuff, when I was out of touch with urban and pop for the most part. My, how things have changed. I didn't even listen to his last album and probably won't listen to this one either. I thought he was done after the last one anyway???

This album is... pleasant. I'd read two opposing self-dubbed descriptions of the album prior to listening, one being "dark and futuristic" and the other, "dance music to drink tea to." I certainly wish it was more the former, but alas, this album proves to be a too-appropriate embodiment of the latter: unobtrusive, light, even fluffy. The productions are solid throughout, but the songcraft just isn't there. Some of the choruses actually bring their parent tracks down. At any rate: RIP The Streets - your first two LPs are classixxx.
