Friday, December 23, 2005 Monica to Throw 27th Birthday Bash For Rock Next Wednesday, December 28, R&B Diva Monica will throw a 27th birthday bash for her fiance Rock -- and you're all invited! The party will be held at the Body Tap. I spoke to Monica by phone a few days ago (she got my number from her sister-in-law Kenya Hill). Monica is so sweet and so down-to-earth. It is easy to see why she has such a large & loyal fan following. Monica said she planned to go on the radio to invite all of her fans to come party with her and Rock next Wednesday. This party will be off the chain! I asked Monica about little Rodney Ramone Hill III, and she said the baby is 7 months old now and he is very active. We also talked about her upcoming album and Monica revealed the title of the much-anticipated and long awaited album is "Street Butterfly". Yes, I am a fan just like you are. I told her I couldn't wait to hear her album. She said she's still in the studio working on it and it's almost completed. Monica added that she wanted to release the album next spring because her baby will be older then. I know Monica's fans will make sure "Street Butterfly" goes platinum whenever it's released. See you next Wednesday! And thank you to Monica and Kenya! courtesy of www.sandrarose.com

cannot wait! I hope there's re-recording confusion like last time. LOL. Remember that? She scrapped most of the "All Eyez On Me" project to record "After The Storm" due to the piracy. Looking forward to the new CD.

She scrapped most of the "All Eyez On Me" project to record "After The Storm" due to the piracy. Ha ha. That's the lame excuse she used (just like Usher). But the real truth is that she scrapped it because it was bad. The first two singles were an embarrasing flop. The album did come out as scheduled in Japan.

I actually liked "All eyez on me" (with the Michael Jackson sample). "Too Hood" was just bad. LOL.

No, I actually thought "Too Hood" was hotter than AEOM. I even liked her song "Just Another Girl" lol from Nutty Professor. That song was SOOO 1999-sounding tho. I mean at the time it was fine but even if u hear it now, it just sounds so much like that time.

ATLANTA GOSSIP on MONICA ATLANTA -- Singer Monica is in the studio recording her fourth anticipated album, but sources close to Atlanta Gossip, (AG) speculate rather Monica can capture the same success of her "The Boy Is Mine" days. Monica who has not been seen much in the public eye lately recently gave birth to a baby boy earlier this year. She is said to be focusing her energy on motherhood and putting the finishing touches on her new album. According to a source at her record label, J Records, Monica will be back blowing up the scene in the first quarter of 2006. Insiders are hoping for the same success of her 1998 hit album where she received a Grammy for the "The Boy Is Mine." According to Rock On The Net www.rockonthenet.com/artists-m/monica_main.htm, her last project "After The Storm" only sold 500,000 units which equals to a GOLD record. An unidentified source said, "Monica is a very talented singer. She has the image, appeal and personality, she just needs more promotion, exposure and perhaps better management." She is a tremendous talent who sings better than Beyonce, Ashanti, Brandy, JLo and Janet Jackson so why does her albums only go GOLD or barely PLATINUM?" "Monica should do a reality tv show to help promote her upcoming album, said one record label executive. She's a great talent and I would hate to see her phased out of this industry at such a young age," he said. GOLD records are fine for new talent, but for someone like Monica, everything should be 1,2 or 3 time platinum at this stage. A reality show doesn't have to be this big production lasting for months, just a few segments lasting about 4 weeks. The VH1's, MTV's and BET's would pick it up quickly, but it's not her fault, I blame it on her management," he said. Jessica Simpson, Toni Braxton and Brandy had reality shows in the past to help boost sales of upcoming projects. It would be great for Monica's career.

That Atlanta gossip thing was weird-firstly, yeah didnt she sell closer to 1 million instead of "only 500K" And Toni Braxton and Brandy dont seem to be the best examples of celebrities who had reality shows boost sales. I know Brandy flopped HARD...dont really know about Toni, but I didnt even know she had a reality show.

Toni was supposed to star in a sitcom based on her life on WB. I don't know what became of it. But After The Storm scanned about one million and outsold Afrodisiac and Toni's latest releases.

Toni scanned over 300,000 w/o an official single and shipped 500,000, which is really sad when talking about the singer who did "Un-break My Heart"; but I thought it did really well for having no promotion.

This album title sounds like a big rip-off of Ashanti's Concrete Rose.

See, this is the reason why I enforce that people evaluate things before just setting info out there. Of course, Monica's AFTER THE STORM did not do as well as her 1995 and 1998 releases, but taken that the musical sales climate had significantly changed, and how hard it is for those who have lasted in the industry, Monica's AFTER THE STORM did well. It has sold close to 1mil in Soundscan sales, so it is Platinum w/o a doubt. It had three hit singles. SO GONE crossedover and made it to the top 10 on the Hot 100. Knock, Knock was a respectable urban hit. U Should've Known Better was also a top hit on the Hot 100 reaching the top 20. The CD fared well. My only bone of contention is the ghetto title. I don't know how that will sit, but Monica's latest has done pretty well overall, and it is not a failure. Three sizable hits to add to her repertoire and 1 million in sales with little promotion ain't no joke.

I as well think "After The Storm" did VERY well IMO. The year 2003 was piss poor in sales so I think the album was a success. Plus she debuted at No. 1.

LOL I was about to say, that's not even Monica on that cover! Hilarious.
Those little articles up there or whatever are insane. Like you saw, she's SCANNED damn near close to 1,000,000 albums now, she must have shipped more than a million by now. And yeah, "So Gone" was the single biggest R&B song of 2003, and then even after the ball was dropped on her promotion "U Should've Known Better" went on to top 10 R&B/top 20 Hot 100, also good. True, it's nowhere near the days of "The Boy Is Mine", but who expects her to repeat that success and get three #1's in a row? That was beyond incredible.
"All Eyez On Me"... I know it was sort of an excuse to scrap it because of bootlegging, but it honestly WAS extremely bootlegged, those tracks were everywhere (including "U Should've Known Better"). "Too Hood" was not a real single, there was no video, she just performed it live for AOL basically lol.
And Monica's got a real following in Japan, apparently. Who honestly cares about overseas though? If you can't make it in the US saying that you're popular somewhere else is just to heal your pride.
The idea of doing a reality show to promote her... please... can we stop with that? No one has done that succesfully. Look at TLC for example, wow. Flop.
And lastly, yeah, "Street Butterfly" is a bit iffy, but I don't know, it's unique. And oh yeah, she definitely will do better than Brandy (sadly, because "Afrodisiac" was an amazing album) or Toni or Tamia or Mya or all these others who honestly don't have it as together as Mo' does.

She needs to stop with the "Hood" "Street" crap. Everyone knows she is as Hood Mary Kate an Ashley Olson.
